First team: A Non-weather one!

It’s my first time making a team, and I’m fairly new to this. =)

Ferrothorn @Leftovers
Iron Barbs || Sassy
252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
IV: 0 Spe
~ Spikes
~ Stealth Rock
~ Power Whip
~ Gyro Ball

This is my lead. Ferrothorn can easily set up Spikes and Stealth Rock to get major damage on switch ins. After getting these ready, Ferrothorn can easily wall many opposing Pokemon with its large bulk. Pretty standard.

Scrafty @Expert Belt
Moxie || Jolly
4 HP/ 252 Att / 252 Spe
~Dragon Dance
~Drain Punch
~Crunch
~Ice Punch

After discovering Scrafty’s moveset and stats, I completely fell in love with it. A bulky Pokemon that could use Dragon Dance with large coverage? YES. Scrafty can be a monster once it gets a few Dragon Dances in, which is also fairly easy to do with its large bulk and only two weaknesses. Moxie over Shed Skin to increase sweeping potential. Expert Belt is very useful on Scrafty, as its moveset gains a super effective hit on ELEVEN types, seven of which are STABed.

Volcarona @Life Orb
Flame Body || Timid
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
~Quiver Dance
~Bug Buzz
~Fiery Dance
~HP Ground

After one glance, I knew I wanted his guy in my team. Only two weakness, high Special Defense and Attack, decent speed, PLUS access to Quiver Dance = WIN. This guy can sweep through just about everything, and with Life Orb, only gets more monstrous. Bug Buzz and Fiery Dance are standard. HP Ground over Rock for more coverage, while covering Volcarona’s main weakness, Rock.

Starmie @Shell Bell
Natural Cure || Timid
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
~Rapid Spin
~Surf
~Thunderbolt
~Recover

If I’m going to place some spikes and stealth rocks, someone else is bound to as well. Forretress as a Rapid Spinner seemed to overused for me, and I already have Ferrothorn, so I went with a Pokemon whose typing I didn’t have yet – Starmie! A fairly basic rapid Spin Set. Shell Bell is a Leftovers replacement, since I’m trying to not use the same item more than once.

Hydreigon @Choice Specs
Levitate || Timid
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
~Dragon Pulse
~Dark Pulse
~Flamethower
~Surf

Every great team has a Dragon, it’s just that simple. Hydreigon, with its massive movepool and great overall stats, it seemed like the perfect choice. I don’t really understand why people are putting Draco Meteor and Dragon Pulse in the same set – it seems sort of redundant to me. So I chose the higher accuracy and not-reducing-my-Special-Attack move. This gave me an open slot to abuse Hydreigon’s other STAB. Flamethrower and Surf also provide great coverage.

Scizor @Choice Band
Technician || Adamant
200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 SpD
~U-Turn
~Bullet Punch
~Superpower
~Bug Bite

I just recently learned of the Technician/Bullet Punch combination on Scizor. Shows how recently I got into competitive team building. The Swords Dance set really stood out to me, but since both Life Orb and Leftovers were taken, I wasn’t really sure what to give a Swords Dance set, so I went with a Choice Bander. It’s great typing and physical bulk, as well as a decent Special bulk, allows it to sweep easily and without taking too much damage. U-Turn for scouting and retreating, Bug Bite for power.

In terms of threats and the like, I’m much too new at this to know what my team can do, or what will hit it hard. The only significant problem I can think of is that half my team is weak against Fighting, and no Pokemon has a counter to Fighting. =( All comments are appreciated!

Thanks!

pretty decent skeleton of a team but there's no getting around it, it needs a good bit of fixing.

firstly ferrothorn...i hate ferrothorns, honestly hate them, your set looks pretty bog standard, all i'll say is maybe split your defence evs? i've seen a few people run this to some success

a scrafty...not commonly seen and it looks like you've done a good job of it, just remember if it cant DD scrafty can fall quickly, also it's weak to any decent speedy flying types or fighting moves, i can see thundurus running focus blast destroying it... just sayin'

volcarona, i dont see it much personally, that could just be coincidence though, you really need to watch out for weather, especially an excadrill/tyranitar combo as excadrill could outspeed volcarona if it hasnt set up and hit it with a rock slide.

for starmie, firstly i have no idea why you're trying to avoid duplicating items...pretty much nobody plays with item clause unless you're talking VGC or something...i'd reconsider the item thing and give it lefties or life orb. also i'd suggest changing surf to hydro pump so you can get just a bit more of a punch in, so yeah, that's that.

i suggest changing your hydreigon to this;

Hydreigon @ life orb
modest nature - levitate
EVs: 4HP / 252 SPA / 252 Speed
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Surf
- U-Turn
This thing is a power house, it can adapt it's moves to either sun or rain which is pretty nifty, and it can also opt out via u-turn, only problem is some accuracy, but it's not too much to worry about.

oh Scizor, i've never managed to run him effectively but your set looks pretty cool, if you want to keep to your item clause thing, if not i'd change it to the sweeping set;

Scizor @ leftovers
technician / adamant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Brick Break (run this over superpower to avoid the power down)
- Bug Bite / Quick Attack (the official set says roost but with lefties and a low hp..meh)

technician is a great ability and this guy has the ability to sweep if you get matched against some good types

that's that, i hope this was useful (:

Ok. Look above this post, where it says RMT Forum. RMT=RateMyTeam, not 'rate my individual poke'. Saying stuff like ''oh, I can see a super-effective 120BP move harming this poke, just pointing it out lol'' is just foolish. So can I. So can everyone. Rate his TEAM!!!

On your Scizor, either run 248hhp/252atk/8whatever for extra bulk, or run a bulky SD set.
On Hydreigon, use Fire Blast over Flamethrower for extra power. Also U-Turn>Dark Pulse. Very useful for scouting.
Your team is quite frail in general, so I'd suggest putting in a Bronzong over Starmie. That way you have a lot more defensive presence-checks Garchomp, Landlos etc. Run SR on it, and change Ferrothorn's SR to Leech Seed. If you do so, your team becomes very weak to fire, so subbing in a Suicune over either Volcarona or Scrafty would help.
