First weather RMT

UPDATED : 6/18/11
Greetings all! I'm brand new to competitive pokemon (just learned about IVs and Evs about a month ago) and this is my first attempt at a competitive weather team.

Ninetails (F) @ Chesto Berry
Ability : Drought
Evs: 252HP / 92 SpD / 164 SpE
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
-Will-o-wisp
-Fire Blast
-Hidden Power Ground
-Roar

Fairly standard Ninetails i suppose. Willowisp because of ninetail's bad physical D, Fire blast Stab, HP ground for mirror matches, and Confuse Ray. I originally had Roar instead of confuse ray, but with Ninetail's low def it wasnt really able to take hits and phaze effectively. I was thinking about switching fire blast for overheat since ninetails doesnt stay in long regardless. I could have done sub with roar, but then that defeats the purpose of focus sash.

Chandelure (M) @ Choice scarf
Ability : Flash Fire
Evs: 4HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpE
Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
-Hidden Power Fighting
-Overheat
-Shadow Ball
-Energy Ball

pretty basic set. ghost typing allows chandelure to be an effective spin blocker. STAB overheat, modest nature, and high sp atk really hurts. HP fighting against dark pokes and common heatran, ferrothorn, etc. Shadow ball for other spin blockers and energy ball for rain matchups.

Bronzong @ Light Clay
-Hypnosis/EQ
-Gyro Ball
-Reflect
-Light Screen
ability: Levitate
nature: Sassy
evs: 252 HP / 84 Atk / 80 Def / 92 SpD

I'm currently trying out Bronzong on the team. In theory he should work fairly well being able to switch in on ground attacks cuz of fire's weakness to them. Also works well with chandelure. Good survivability and screens really helps to support the team

SawsBuck (f) @ Life Orb
Ability : Chlorophyll
Evs: 136 HP / 252 Atk / 116 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk,-SpA)
-Swords Dance
-Horn Leech
-Jump Kick
-Return/Double Edge

I love sawsbuck on this team. Physical chlorophyll sweeper thats good against rain, the mirror, and sand. screens obv make setting up easier and its not using life orb because thundurus has it and i play by item clause. pretty basic set with good coverage except it gets walled by dragonite and i dont know if i should switch out a move since jump kick and nature power in the sun is EQ and almost similar coverage :(

Donphan @ Leftovers
Ability : Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 188 Atk / 68 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk,-SpA)
-Roar
-Ice Shard
-Earthquake
-Stealth Rock/Rapid Spin

I'm not sure what item to put onto Donphan with the item clause, but i think Donphan added much needed physical bulk to the sun team. Ice shard helps since my team has absolutely no priority moves and can get walled by dragonite. Also helps against gliscor and genies which are so common right now. Having an additional phazer with stealth rocks i think helps prevent opponents from setting up on me and adds some damage at the same time. EQ is the STAB move of choice or i can run RS and turn donphan into just a utility poke.

Dugtrio @ Muscle Band? (suggestions for better item?)
EVs: 252 ATK / 44 DEF / 212 Spe
Nature : Jolly
-Sucker Punch
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Sub

Dugtrio is a good thought in theory, but hes so fragile and doesnt hit hard enough to be effective really. Substitute really helps for scouting and avoiding status. Equake/Edge combo for good coverage specially against genies and dragonite that use to give me issues. Suckerpunch to round off the set to give Dugtrio a priority move against other priority users.

Current Issues :
I get walled by reuniclus :(

PAST MEMBERS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability : Prankster
Evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpE
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
-Nasty Plot/T-Wave
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power Ice
-Focus Blast

Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Ability : Iron Barbs
evs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpDef
Sassy Nature (+SpD,-SpE)
ivs:2 SpE
-Stealth Rock
-Spikes
-Gyro Ball
-Thunderwave

I've been told to take out ferrothorn, but i do have a reason for him being in here. Ferrothorn helps with the sand matchup and gives support even in the mirror match. It also draws fire attacks so i can switch into chandelure for flash fire. T-wave is used to help cripple key pokes that arent necessarily fast to begin with and to just help support the team overall.

Espeon (F) @ Light Clay
Ability : Magic Bounce
Evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpE
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
-Wish
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Psychic

Depending on what my opponents lead is would depend on what i switch into next. I believe espeon helps take away the need of a spinner while also being able to setup consistent screens without fearing taunt. The only downside is finding a good time to switch her in since she isnt the lead and has low physical defences. Wish support for the team and then i was thinking about using him for a secondary sunny day user but wasnt sure?

So there you have it. I'm brand new at this so i appreciate your feedback and thanks for reading!

Okay, here's what I think. Hope it helps. First, you've got 3 pokes weak to rock, so I'd suggust finding another poke to help with that. Second, I think Psychic for Espeon is the way to go, just in case Espy is all that's left. Next, run Leech Seed on Ferrothorn would greatly help it with its walling capabilities. Finally, I run CScarf on my Chand, which greatly helps its sweeping instead of getting destroyed before hitting something like a train. Otherwise, a nice weather team. Hope you rack up the wins!

o hmmm i totally didnt see that rock weakness. Any suggestions for who to take out and who to replace? or perhaps screens is enough to help with that issue?

I have a leech seed ferrothorn, but i wanted to try dual support so i can go either way. The only thing i didnt like about leech seed was people switch so much so like ill burn a turn to seed them and then they switch out. Figured it would be better just to have spikes and then wish support with espeon.

Yea i was prolly gonna scarf my chand, but specs is an option, maybe not the best option lol. Thanks for the feedback i do appreciate it :D

If you're not running A LOT of Sp. Atk EVs into Ninetales, anything nonFIRE is quite useless since it is quite a weak poke. The only way Ninetales can effectively kill is hitting with a Fire attack thanks to STAB+Sun, without getting any advantage from this it is just a wasted slot.

yea thats true... i was thinking what to switch it up for rest and focus sash is a waste on ninetails so i was thinking about trying out maybe chesto berry on ninetails instead.

ChestoRest works wonders. On Ninetales i've been using Flamethrower/Will-o-Wisp/Rest/Roar, with Chesto Berry and Aromatherapy Chansey in the team ;)

This is just a suggestion. Try running Overheat and Power Swap. Power Swap swaps all changes to your offensive stats so you can give your opponent -2 from Overheat and you get back to +0 or higher if your opponent uses Nasty Plot or Calm Mind. This can easily cripple special sweepers and Overheat does a ton of damage so you won't have much problems doing damage.

You can also switch Thundurus with Venusaur. With a mixed set like this: Sleep Powder/Growth/Seed Bomb/HP Fire, you will have no problem sweeping against unprepared opponents.

Flamethrower is enough to revenge kill Excadrill and OHKO Ferrothorn with minimal investment (210 Sp. Atk and 303 Speed). Of course, i agree with Overheat+Power Swap if the team has another method to apply Burn (like Sigilyph).

Honestly, If going for Mixed Venusaur i have a better build around here since it doesn't get walled by Heatran:

Venusaur @ Life Orb
Lonely - Chlorophyll
252 Atk / 180 Sp. Atk / 76 Speed

Earthquake / HP Ice / Power Whip / Growth

so i changed my moveset for ninetails to
-roar
-rest
-will o wisp
-Fire Blast

and it seems to be working out alot better. My team seems to be weak to priority users or not being able to phase pokes out that try and setup. So i really think i need to get Donphan in here asap. Also i'm not sure how effective Espeon is as a screener since she has such low def its hard for her to switch in and get screens up.

Sawsbuck needs help here. Return is needed to kill off many of those dragons you said you can not kill, you will have to choose between jump kick and natural power for it. Usually jumpkick is the best choice to deal with heatran, while natural power just deals with the rarer Chandelure, and in general fighting has much better coverage too. With that expert belt is pretty bad; it was bad in the first place since grass - ground - fighting doesn't hit everything effectively, and even then horn leech easily takes care of life orb recoil. So switch it with life orb.

If anything Donphan needs to replace espeon, not Thundurus.

k sorry i updated the list now....

Scarf i completely agree with u. I actually put return on there and just forgot to update it and put life orb on him also, but in the process i took out thundurus. yea i was thinking about pulling espeon also, but wasnt sure what to do about replacing him unless i make bronzong the screener.

For Dugrio, I would take off Muscle(sorry I can't spell today) Band and put on Expert Belt. Having 3 moves with very offensive typing and very good coverage leads to the need to the super effective boost. Also, if you want to run a sun team, I'd suggust Sunny Day on Dugtrio for a move in case Ninetales bites the dust, as it never wins a weather war. Maybe run an EQ ST SP Sunny Day set or a Sub Sunny EQ ST set for Dugtrio as backup for Nintales. GL!
