Hello Smogon, Shuckle here for another RMT thread. This team was based around Zapdos. Recently I have discovered a new found love for The LO Zapdos set and that what this team is build around. With great coverage and good stats Zapdos can just rip apart teams in the late game. The team turned out pretty good in the end but it still has room for improvement.
well like i already said i wanted the team to be around zapdos, With the Great Coverage having Stab Tbolt, getting access to Heat wave, and Hp Grass, this makes for a great pokemon to have kicking around in the later parts of the game. After a kill zapdos is open to revenge kills quite easily, from it be a CB scizor or even a lucario, it’s something that has to be taken into account while using this pokemon.
So what better to add to the team than a pokemon not easily killed and that can wall scizor and lucario for days. Skarmory Having 65 base hp and 140 base defence + and impish nature its not easily killed to say the least. Skarmory also brings a stall aspect to my team with being able to set up entry hazards and shuffle the opponents team for me, Now with Skarmory on the team, what pokemon has better synergy with it than.....
Yes.. Blissey, the ever common Skarm bliss. This is my 1st time using the combo and I will say that its fun to use and effictive. Blissey may be overused in the OU tier, but its for a good reason, with 255hp and 135 SpDef it makes for the best special wall in all of pokemon. Access to a recovery move, Supporting abilities with wish and a status move and Stoss as a damage dealer. This pokemon is good for a reason. Having this combo tho, leaves me really open to mix ape and mix flygon,
At first I really couldn’t think of a solution to the mix ape and mix gon problem, So I threw what I knew on the team, A choice Scarf Flygon with jolly nature, out speeding both Infernape and Flygon being able to kill them both, Starmie was also added to be able to come in on a resisted hit from nape weather is be fire blast of Close Combat. And being able to out speed and kill with a timid nature reaching a speed of 352 I think (don’t quote me on that )
and after all that i still needed a lead...
Jirachi serves as my lead. Possibly my favourite 1 of the best OU leads, Being able to trick, set up rocks, or spam iron head to rip holes in the enemy in the early part of the games, Jirachi is just so versatile its ridiculous, Base 100 across the board , it just makes rachi a great lead.
After playing a few games, losing to stall and getting dominated in 1 instance I needed something that would throw a wrench into the stall game my friend suggested a gengar. (shout out to shooting starmie)
After playing for a couple days with the suggetion of a monoattacking gyarados inplace of flygon I saw that it worked much better on this team, Having good pairing with blissey and skarm it lets the 2 do their jobs alot easier, Gyara also finds many oppurtunites to set up threw the game
The In-depth look
Orion (Jirachi) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk,-SpAtk)
- Ice Punch
- Iron Head
- Stealth Rock
- Trick
Rachi. The leader to this team, being able to trick scarf anything that wants to set up rocks so they become Crippled, than set up my own, Iron head offensive leads that scare, and ice punch things like the odd Dragonite Lead. This lead is possibly my 2nd favourite behind nidoqueen for nu/uu. Jirachi is to versatile to pass up. As a lead it can threaten you in many ways and it serves me well for this team. Jirachi can also be around in the late game to do some haxing and iron people to death
Sanitarium (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def/252 Spd/252 SpAtk
Timid nature (+Spd,-Atk)
- Pain Split
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
Gengar is a MVP on this team, Acting as a some what stall breaker with sub and pain split. Tbolt and shadow ball are for doing some damage. I chose Tbolt Over Focus blast because I prefer not to take my chances with The low accuracy of the move. This set helps me take out skarm, nape, and bulky waters on other stall teams but I still struggle against blissey because I don’t carry focus blast. This set even does damage to scizor if they want to pursuit as I just sub up till I’m about to die and pain split so its an easy revenge kill.
Gengar also acts a spin blocker for the team. I know gengar is not the 1st choice most people would use for a spin blocker but I don’t really see another pokemon that could fit the roll. Rotom could be an option but gengar is faster and more powerful than rotom forms.
St. Anger Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP/156 Def/8 Spd/96 SpDef
Careful nature (+SpDef,-SpAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Waterfall
Gyarados is a very good addition to this team, All tho it gives me another zapdos weakness, I have blissey for that. DD mono attacking gyara, is a very good set for this team as it finds oppurtunity to set up on a fair amound of pokes, Along side with skarm and blissey it makes it that much harder to kill. It walls the like of scizor, and infernape, who i had such problums with before.
Battery (Blissey) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpDef
Bold nature (+Def,-Atk)
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
- Thunder Wave
- Wish
Blissey Bissey Bliseey, no matter how many times I say it people still are going to yell at me for using it. Blissey is an amazing pokemon and it covers both Zapdos, and skarmorys weaknesses to the special attacks. With relative ease. Giving wish support to her team mates, To its self, Twaving threats for the rest of them, and protect is probably the best move on this set. As it helps me scout what infer nape and others want to do to hurt me, so I can go in to the proper team-mate based on the move Acting as a status absorber also singe its ability is natural cure it helps me out a lot. Blissey serves as one of the main pokemon on this team and it can help me out of many situations, as its my first time using blissey I never knew how good this pokemon could actually be. Ive even stalled out a scizor with it
Damage INC (Skarmory) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpDef
Impish nature (+Def,-SpAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
Skarmory! Skarm is her to absorb the psychical attack coming gengar and zapdos’s way With its mammoth sized defensive stat it finds many opportunities to set up spikes and to shuffle my opponents team around with whirlwind. With the synergy it has with blissey I often find the combination of the two still alive in the late game. Shuffling between the two and annoying the hell out of my opponent. Leaving my opponents weak from the entrey hazards and the brave bird it makes for an much easier time cleaning up at the end of the game, thanks to skarm and bliss this team forces a lot of switches often putting major holes into my enemies team.
and last but not least
Ride The Lightning (Zapdos) @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def/252 Spd/252 SpAtk
Timid nature (+Spd,-Atk)
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power (grass) u mad pert?
- Roost
- Thunderbolt
Zapdos is the final leg to this team. Often serving as a late game sweeper it just demolishes its way threw teams, with the great coverage it gets from fire grass and electric moves. Roost is to get back all the life orb damage/rocks damage it may take. Not many pokemon want to stand up to this guy in the late games since it gets the ohko and almost all opponents. Timid nature So it reaches a max speed of 328 its not out speed by much either. 348 as a spec attack anything it gets a super effective hit on is going to die with the entry hazard damage. If need be Zapdos also out speeds mix ape, so it gives me another way to deal with him. Zapdos is probably my new Favourite set to use simply because its just so damn effective
final thoughts
well guys thats the team any suggestions, comments or anything will be taken in to consideration and will be tested
Just want this team to be better guys
