Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

Wow. Seems so different from the 5th gen stuff I'm used to doing. It's not hard finding Shiny Eggs with the nature and ability I want in 4th Gen. However, what do I do after that for the RNG abuse of the IVs? Is that some sort of separate seed? I suppose it's like combining both aspects of the egg articles here on smogon (the breeding shiny and breeding flawless). I just couldn't find an article that mentioned combining the two. Thanks so much for the replies btw.

EDIT: So IVs are generated once you take the egg from the daycare man?

Yeah, in 4th gen the IVs are not generated until you pick up the egg. Everything else is generated when the egg is made.

Once you have the egg made, you save in front of the daycare man, and then you hit the seed that will let you get the IVs you want.

Here's an example. Let's say I want a shiny Timid Drowzee with IVs of 31/0/31/31/31/31. I want it to be Male and have Insomnia.

So first thing I do is save the game with my 2 parents in my party in front of the daycare lady. We'll say that a Ditto is Parent A and my Drowzee is Parent B.

Now, I need to find the right PID seed to get Timid, Ability 0, M and shiny. I input my ID/SID in the shiny egg finder, and put in a delay range and my info and find an appropriate seed. Generally you want to use Frame 1 for ALL PID seeds. Otherwise you will have to reject eggs until you get to the shiny one (aka hassle). So once I find a Frame 1 shiny PID that fits my needs, I will put that in the Seed to Time window and hit my seed. Once I turn on the game, I deposit parent A and B in the daycare (in that order) and bike around until the Daycare man has an egg.

Then I save the game in front of the daycare man. Now I look up a seed I can use for IVs. I put in the IVs of Parent A and Parent B in the boxes, and also fill in my desired IV spread. I usually search Frames 5-10 for this part. This is because there is a wandering NPC on the route that may make your starting Frame for IVs > 1. The inheritance does come into play here. If my target spread is 31/0/31/31/31/31, I need my parents to have any combination of 3 of those IVs. I think you know all about this from 5th gen breeding.

For this part, you need to open the Pokegear as fast as possible and after you do your advancing, close the Pokegear and pick up the egg as fast as possible. But in general you just advance to 1 frame before your target, and then pick up your egg as quickly as possible.

There are some other details here like how to check your seed and advance the frame, you can find that in the RNG help guide at the beginning of this thread.

I hope this helps.

That does help quite a bit. So when I go to hit my Shiny PID seed, I need to make sure to hit the appropriate number of flips and happiness checker taps before depositing the parents, right? Also, how do you search for Frame 1 Shiny PIDs? There doesn't appear to be an option for that in the Shiny Egg tab within Time Finder. Do you just take the seed and copy that into the main screen and search to see where the Shiny Frame is?

Again, thank you so much. This doesn't seem quite as daunting now.

EDIT: I'm using 8.31 atm. I also have 9.81 available to use. I see 9.81 has a min/max frame listed, but I don't think it is working.

I apologize, I should have said I was explaining the process for HGSS. It's a lot easier in HGSS due to less NPC trolling. If you are doing it in DPPt, the process is mostly the same, but you need to find out how much the NPCs usually advance the IV frame, so that you can do the IVs properly*.

Since you can advance the PID with the Coin Flips and stuff, I don't think it is as essential that your PID be Frame 1. If you generate your seed using 'DPPt Egg PID' it should tell you how many Flips and Taps you need to get to the PID you want. Now that I think about it, since you will be verifying your seed with Coin Flips, it's probably best to have a Frame that gives you enough space to check your seed, but you can still reach it with the coin flips.

*Basically, you will get variable advances that will cause you to miss your target if you don't know how much it will advance. If you do a few trials (Directions are in the main Smogon RNG guide) and you are getting +4 due to NPC advances, then you would take that into account and do 4 less frame advancements than you would if there were no wandering NPCs. You'll want the journal to appear as soon as you boot the game to make sure this interference is as consistent as possible.

Oh, no worries. I just wanted to clarify everything. It doesn't seem too hard finding a PID seed that is Shiny. The hard part, as always, is hitting the seed. Obviously far easier when there aren't NPCs screwing things up. I'll have to do that Frame Calibration part from the guide to figure out how much the NPCs are advancing the frame (on average).

I do plan on moving onto my SS game, but focusing on Pearl atm.

EDIT: LOL, I suppose I can't trouble you for a flawless Ditto for my 4th gen breeding endeavors. Probably asking too much. Man, I wish these games were backwards compatible.

I've been trying to RNG Scyther for like 3 hours now.. but because for some reason, when it's not shiny, it doesn't get the nature as well. You have any clue why? I've never experienced this issue because I never RNGed eggs that were NOT shiny. ._.

I have RNGed before in 4th gen, but with shinies, and I've never had issues with the nature problem I'm having right now for non-shininess.

Go back a little. What did you enter in the ID/SID box? Your own ID/SID?

Yeah, I put my own ID/SID.

Okay, here's what you do:

Enter this:

ID: 62616
SID: 25259

This is my Pt ID, but that doesn't matter.
Next thing you do is search for shiny eggs on that ID/SID combo, it should give you seeds as usual. Pick one, RNG it, and you'll find that it'll hatch non shiny, but with the Ability/Nature/Gender you wanted.

I'll go ahead an try that out right now. I'll come back and confirm if it works or not, and thanks. :>

Is the LoR Gyarados Method K? I found a seed using PokeRNG that's flawless except for SpA and Jolly, so would I just hit that seed and talk to Gyara?

Ok thanks :] I was confused because on one of the first posts, under starting frames > stationary pokemon, it says all stationaries start on one except LoR Gyara.

Why not? xD

And, I need a Gyara for the BT anyways. ;)

Really? I thought he did, I could be wrong. Only person I know of who did abuse that was Diabolico and EE, and that was a long time ago.
Go with what Smogon says on the starting frame.

It just seems more trouble than it's worth. As you can RNG a Magikarp in the water just as easy xD!

Starting frames:

Interactable Pokemon, except Red Gyarados: 1

That's all it says. It doesn't list the starting frame for the Gyarados, it just says it's not 1.

It shouldn't be to much trouble. Plus, it'll be shiny! I didn't abuse my ID/SID for a shiny Jolly spread, so this is the only way for me to get one without restarting :P

Sorry for the double post, but there's no Elm Response column for the Chained shiny method. Is there a different way to advance the frame for this method, or will I just have to keep track in my head?

Edit: Also, for the Arceus event in HGSS, when are the IVs/PID Generated for Giratina/ Dialga/ Palkia?

Edit 2: Will the rain at the Lake of Rage advance the frame? If so, is there a certain time that there's no rain?

I have no idea about the first part. Probably keep track in your head, or you can memorize what frame the spread is on, and switch the method to K and keep track using that.

After saying yes you want the Pokemon, after walking to the desired square.

No, it shouldn't. It's not like 5th gen xD! It just prevents you from Sweet Scenting.
