[Overview]

*Mudkip has pretty good stats overall.
*Decent movepool but unfortunately no reliable recovery moves.

[SET COMMENTS]

-Waterfall is a stong STAB move and return is a strong move aswell.
-Rock Slide hits flying type pokemon like Tailow.
-SuperPower hits steel-types.
-Choice Scarf helps it outspeed a majority of pokemon.


[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

-This set is completely walled by steel types if it's not carrying SuperPower.
-This offensive set works well with Mudkip's excellent attack stat and decent Speed.

[Other Options]

*Aqua Tail can be used over Waterfall but Waterfall has better accuracy and a 20% flinch rate.
*You can use a defensive set but that's a gamble as you won't have a reliable recovery move outside of Rest.

[Checks and Counters]
*Mudkip counters most of the common fire-types like Chimchar.
*Mudkip has problems with faster pokemon like Choice Scarf Tailow and Choice scarf Joltik, and therefore works well with a bulky steel-type.

[Dream World]

Mudkip's dreamworld ability is Damp, but it cannot be used because you can't get a Mudkip with Damp below level 10.
 
In regards to all your analysis, just a friendly note, in the topic add the term (Analysis)
'Mudkip (Analysis)' and the status of it. So for future refference its clear whether its an update or an analysis and stuff.
 
Man i swear I used this with SR on shoddy....

RestTalk Curse Waterfall (given that all are legal) looks promising, and Mudkip's defenses aren't *horrible* especially with Eviolite. Has anyone tried this?

I haven't yet but I'll give it a try. But 3 non-damaging moves and 1 damaging move doesen't provide the best type coverage and is totally walled by anything that resists waterfall.
 
Choice Scarf is outclassed by Totodile and it isn't very good in the first place. Any defensive sets Mudkip could try to pull off is outclassed by things like Wailmer, Slowpoke, or even Shellos. As a pure water type, it doesn't really have anything special about it, not even Stealth Rock. You could write an analysis about Mudkip or you could just look at the analysis of the handful of other Water-types that just mostly outclass it.

I really like Mudkip and looked up so many things to try to find a niche but I really just can't. I'd even rather use Poliwag for Endeavor... I don't really want to but
