So another Rock/Steel wall right? useless you say?
I think Not!

with 1/2 resitances to Ice, Psychic, Bug, Dragon, Rock, Ghost, Dark
and 1/4 resistances to Flying, Normal

Combine that with a cap of 438 Special Defence or a cap of 427 in Defence
and this thing can take hits like fucking nothing. [almost Deoxys-L style]

So im gona pull a Jumpman on your asses here:

Draco Meteor from Max+ Menace = 100-117 Damage to Max SDef Probopass
Draco Meteor from Max+ Menace = 91-107 Damage to Max+ SDef Probopass

Ok, now for Phisical [wich is "worse" becouse of the x4 weaks right?]

Bellydrummed Explosion from Max+ Licki = 203-239 Damage to Max Def
Bellydrummed Explosion from Max+ Licki = 185-218 Damage to Max+ Def

CB'd Brave Bird from Max+ Staraptor = 46-54 Damage to Max Def
CB'd Brave Bird from Max+ Staraptor = 42-50 Damage to Max Def

Enough of the numbers, to sum them up, anything probopass resists gets fucked back into their pokeball.

Heres a Moveset I plan on using on a Garchomp based team:

dpiconani476.gif

Probopass (M) @ Leftovers ** Dum-Dum
Trait: Magent Pull
EVs: TBD
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Gravity
- Earth Power
- Thunderwave

Since my Garchomp will feature no Fire type attack, its like a magnet to skarmory, then i send my own magnet (probopass) who taunts skarmory and makes its life hell, Twaves, Gravities, and EP's till kindom-come.
just before killing skarm, i lay out gravity again, and then its Garchomp Destruction time.

*who ever tells me where i got the nickname for the set, gets a cookie.*

You posted about Brave Bird Staraptor, but switching it in at all is suicidal. Staraptor's max (not max+) Close Combat versus Probopass's max+ defense, no boost items:
339 attack vs. 427 defense, 120 power, times 4.000000: 278 - 328

Same goes for most physical threats, as they carry Earthquake or Close Combat or something to nail those 4x weaks. A 4x weak to some of the most common physical attacks in the game makes this a poor choice for physical walling.

Since Probopass's Special Attack is 20 points higher than its Attack, wouldn't you be better off with Earth Power than Earthquake? It'd work a lot better on Skarmory, too.

In case any of you care, Probopass may never see use in the standard 1v1 metagame, but it'll be quite the support Pokemon in 2v2.

No, the Nickname is not from there.

Indeed its not the best Physical Wall, however it can be used in a pinch to stop a CB'd Normal/Flying attack.

Good Point, Swiching now to Earth Powah!

Surgo, won't most Staraptor be holding Choice Band anyway? If that's the case, switching in Probopass would nearly always be a good option until the opponent predicts it and does a Close Combat.

Dang... As much as I HATE nosepass, Probopass is actually good. Gah, He seems good enough to use almost, but then hes just so lame...

I don't know about anyone else but I feel that Staraptor's versatility in its attacks is one of its strong points and I would not want to hurt that by using a Choice Band, even at the expense of the additional attacking power.

I agree. I like the idea of using Close Combat, then using U-Turn to do damage while switching out, negating my losses in Defense and Special Defense.

God I hate the Rock/Steel typing... it should have been pure Steel or something. Not that it will ever be better than Registeel...

In any case, this is decidedly UU material and should do okay as long as you keep it away from any Earthquakes. I would probably ignore defenses and just max HP, then max either attack stat and work with that. The only advantage to SDEF is trying to maybe survive some STAB Surfs, really.

Anything it can do, Magnezone can do better. That high special defense looks good at first, but then you have to realize every special attacker and their brother will be carrying Focus Blast, except waters which carry surf, and electrics who are handled better by the magnet. The only one thing I can think of it doing that MaggyZ cant do is taunt skarmory and try to set up for something else.

Probopass gets walled and killed by Ground-types, so it needs some major redeeming factors to get over it, because from what it seems everyone will use a Ground or even two in DP. The best bet is abusing Magnet Pull and killing vital Steels really.

Anyway, the old discussion is barely 3 weeks old. I'll just cite here what I said there and close this because we're looking for new new threads really...if there was something you wanted to add to that old thread feel free to do so, but with all due respect I doubt so.

me (not fat) said:
Wow, I didn't even realize this thing got a type change and...so much defenses.

I say slap Adherance Scarf on it with enough Speed to run the Steels you want to outrun. You need like 140 Speed for 210 after the scarf, which should outrun about every Metagross and Skarmory out there.

Probopass @ Adherance Scarf
~ Thunder / Thunderbolt
~ Hidden Power Fire
~ Explosion
~ Land Power

Another option is putting Rock Cart or Thunder Wave with Leftovers I suppose, with that and Taunt you will no longer have the problem of Skarmory racking up Spikes, and you can set up your own with Mimic or Stealth Rock.

This thing is one generation late. Before the, you know, best Normal/Flying bird in the game got a 120 base power Fighting attack. ): Very interesting nonetheless.
