I Think this overlooked little turtle has some good potential from in D/P with
its movepool upgrades
Of course it has a Stealth rock , as well as stone edge and Eq weakness but
with the addition of mpves such as rapid spin and will o wisp will it be able to move up a tier.?well we will see

Movesets
Torkoal (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: White Smoke
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 18 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Lava Plume/Flamethrower/Fire Blast
- Rapid Spin
- Will o Wisp
- Stealh Rock

The spinner (and most likely standard) set can switch in on things such as skarm trying to spike and spin them away or set up spikes of its own, it can also take out the bane of rapid spinner (dusknoir) with its stab fire moves and its unaffected by will o wisp and can give back one of its own also most rapid spinners have to be wary of switching in on its moves, especiall will o wish on things like claydol and donphan, starmie has no trouble with this though,

Torkoal (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: White Smoke
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Atk / 188 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Curse
- Explosion
- Gyro Ball
- Fire Blast

Like The idea of curse and gyro ball together and it has some potenitial to sweep but pretty novelty

Torkoal (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: White Smoke
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Iron Defense
- Amnesia
- Toxic
- Rest

Taking a leaf from cradilys book .........as stated before some industrial stalling bullshit, but imo doesnt work as well as cradilly due to the worse typing but its a viable set i suppose.....cool but novelty

Torkoal (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: White Smoke
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Sleep Talk
- Toxic
- Rest
- Flamethower

Screams Novelty but w/e its there becus he can do it...lol

Torkoal (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: White Smoke
EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 228 SAtk / 16 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Lava Plume

anyways talk about the turtle

I'm personally most happy about the fact it learns Will O'Wisp now. Before it'd still need a Iron Defense before it could seriously tank a physical pogey.

Though what bothers me greatly is why is it every single of its STAB moves are special? Not one physical, if it did than the Curse Torkoal would be so much sweeter since it'd be immune to Will O'Wisp to boot.

For the Cradily-esque set, I'd simply replace Iron Defense with Will O'Wisp and max out its defense, switch Toxic for an attack. At least that way it can actually kill something rather than sit there looking bored.

If you think it's worth it, this Pokemon makes a good UU Rapid Spinner. It's not going to be happy at all in OU, though. The curse of being a fire type. ;[

One thing you can do with this Pokemon in 2v2 is Eruption abuse. It's not as strong as Camerupt, but it's even slower - slower even than Snorlax and such, so it's much harder to beat with Trick Room support.

but then it wudnt be Cradily-esque .....lol

i feel bad its gunna be UU tho ........the turtle needed more love.......i feel if it had gotten a better recovery move it could have move up a tier

thats also a nice set i'll add it to the thread any evs u want to suggest, and hp grass has to be predicted as swampy is way faster than u are

EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 228 SAtk / 16 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

I would mostly use lava plume when I would attack, Predicting swampert switch ins shouldnt be that hard and if lava plume burns then you have the advantage

The stalling set is not going to work. The only reason it works on Cradily is because of Suction Cups prevent phazing. When your opp realises your set, Skarmory is just going to come in and start subbing and laying spikes everywhere, WWing you out if you refuse to switch.

hence why i said novelty

I would use Heatran and Camerupt over Torkoal anyday, or a fast sweeping Fire type, but perhaps it can laugh at Magcargo. Yawn and Rapid Spin are cool moves though.

He's in a better position to take on Dusknoir than Starmie or Donphan. He also scares off Skarm and Forry and Froslass and Roserade if they see any play.

Sadly, I don't think that's going to be enough for him to see a great deal of play against OU teams.

The only real reason to use Torkoal is to abuse Rapid Spin, as it can reliably take on the two main Spikers, Forretress and Skarmory. Being able to beat Froslass is a bonus.

Despite being a really cool Pokemon, it's either doomed to B/L or UU, although I want to mention that it survives 2 Metagross/Salamence/Dragonite EarthQuakes. Will-O-Wisp is sadly a genration too late, especially seeing as this duder walls a little better than Skarmory, at least when it comes to neutral moves. 228 HP/192 Defense walls better, really.

to me the only thing stopping this from becoming ou is its type as stealth rock greatly hampers it ability to spin for 2 long but i'll try using it in ou for a bit just to see how it goes

Torkoal was fun in Advance because the Salamence / Gyarados switch-ins wouldn't lower his Atk with intimidate so he could still easily kill them with explosion with few/no Atk EVs. But now he gets WoW, so meh.

im thinking, at this point, speed is gonna be even more important than it was in advance. and if you're as slow as something like torkoal, you had better hope you have tankish stats, or at least something going for you that other fire pokemon dont have

sorry torkoal =)

if I had a Rapid Spin Torkoal in ADV.. Id use it..

but sadly that isnt the case.

Much like Camerupt, its good for burning, fire move and exploding.. the filler would be Rapid Spin I guess :P

still.. the most simple design.. but the damn smoke coming from its back, made me want to use this at first sight. Too bad in the anime they made Torkoal a bitch..

torkoal definitely has the coolness factor going for it, which might the reason why ill end up using it regardless ^_^

Is Torkoal a better Pokémon than before? :/
Rapid Spin and Stealth Rock give it a new dimension, with its ability now to spin and spike. Will-O-Wisp also enhances its role as a supporter. Torkoal did gain a lot comparatively with the advent of DP, but these changes are nothing incredible.

Torkoal @ Leftovers
Trait: White Smoke
~Stealth Rock
~Yawn
~Lava Plume
~Explosion / Rapid Spin

Set up Stealth Rock and phaze with Yawn.

Torkoal @ Leftovers
Trait: White Smoke
~Yawn
~Curse
~Gyro Ball / Stone Edge
~Explosion

An alternate Curse set, although all of them are inferior to support sets. Yawn, and then try to stack up Curses on the switches. Stone Edge if you'd rather hit Water types lol.
