HOLY SHIT IT'S MECHAGODZILLA (Aggron Discussion)

I don't think a thread has ever been made for this UU monster. Then again, I'm only a lurker around here. Anyway, on to business.

Types: Rock/Steel
Abililities: Rock Head (no recoil) and Sturdy (OHKO moves don't work)
Weaknesses: Water, Fighting (x4), Ground (x4)
Resistances: Normal (x4), Ice, Flying (x4), Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark
Immunities: Poison

Physical:
Iron Head
Iron Tail
Double-Edge
Focus Punch
Dragon Claw
Earthquake
Return
Brick Break
Aerial Ace
Facade
Fling
Shadow Claw
Giga Impact
Stone Edge
Avalanche
Rock Slide
Endeavor
Body Slam
Dragon Rush
Metal Burst
Counter
Ice Punch (Emerald)
Thunderpunch (Emerald)
Firepunch (Emerald)

Impressive. Most notable addition is 150 BP Stone Edge. 80% accuracy bites, but hey, critical hits are good.

Special:
Ice Beam
Blizzard
Solar Beam
Thunderbolt
Thunder
Flamethrower
Fire Blast
Focus Blast
Dragon Pulse
Dark Pulse
Flash Cannon
Surf

Look, ma, I can surf.

Support:
Iron Defense
Roar
Protect
Metal Sound
Toxic
Taunt
Sandstorm
Rest
Endure
Rock Polish
Thunderwave
Stealth Rock
Sleep Talk
Swagger
Substitute
Curse
Screech

Not bad. Rock Polish and Curse are cool, but not necessarily groundbreaking.

Aggron always suffered from three of the most common attack types: Water, Fighting and Ground. I don't think the physical/special split really benefitted the steel dinosaur, with Waterfall, Land Power and Focus Bomb becoming used among the masses. To put it simply, Rhyperior, Metagross and Tyranitar beat it pretty badly in the OU metagame. If only it had a cool ability like its OU brethren.

Still, it has its advantages over some of them and with its huge movepool it could be a force in UU. It didn't change all that much, really. Resists Slaking like none other. Resists Max CB Guts'd Megahorn leaving 60% to spare with max HP and Defense, though Close Combat obviously destroys it. Resists most birds now with Hidden Power out of the equation.

Aggron @Leftovers
Stone Edge
Focus Punch
Substitute
Thunderwave

Standard set. Beats up Curslax without EQ and cripples non-Swamperts among things.

Aggron @Choice Band
Stone Edge
Focus Punch
Earthquake
Aerial Ace/Ice Punch/Thunderpunch/Fire Punch

CBzilla. Aerial Ace for Heracross, Ice Punch for dragons and Gliscor, Thunderpunch for Gyarados, Fire Punch for, um, nothing notable I guess.

Aggron @Leftovers
Rock Slide
Iron Head
Thunderwave
Earthquake

Paraflinching lol. 30% ain't bad with T-wave support. EQ is for Steels.

Not sure how the UU metagame will unfold, but it probably has a place somewhere. Hey, it could be worse, it could be Bastiodon.

Aggron's always been one of my favorite 3rd gen Pokemon. He has pretty good stats for a wall and a decent movepool, but he was always crippled by that horrendous typing. I would probably run a variation with Curse along with Sandstorm support, but Sandstream won't be nearly as common in UU as it is in OU thanks to a lack of Tyranitar and Hippowdon.

If any Pokemon really needed Solid Rock, it is definately this one =(.

Aggron has always looked awesome and been a force in UU at least. Sandstorm now boosts its special defense one level for its duration, so it should be a lot more durable, taking next to nothing from Ice Beam and being able to eat Grass Knot despite its massive weight.

With HP going special Aggron is going to be an even bigger force, since it walls CB Birds like nothing else, resisting Brave Bird, Return, and U-Turn in addition to its unholy defense and decent HP.

Avalanche could be interesting, most of the stuff that would EQ this in UU don't like the prospect of being nailed with a 120 power SE Ice move, and retaliatory Avalanche is more powerful than Rock Slide. Due to its negative priotity you can still use it well with Thunder Wave.

Iron Head is cool since it has 100% acc and STAB, but unfortunetely Steel is a bad type offensively and Rock already covers Ice. I don't really forsee any use for the elemental punches. They're cool and all, but Stone Edge already covers flying types, Avalanche does better than Fire and Ice Punch against grassers, and Thunderpunch doesn't deal enough damage to Poliwrath, the only thing that would switch in to Aggron that is weak to it: other threats being the more dangerous Gastrodon/Quagsire/Whiscash that are outright immune. If anything the CB sets will be Focus Punch/Stone Edge/Avalanche/Earthquake.

This.

However since he didn't get it I'm sure he'll be returning to UU, a niche I really enjoyed using him in at points in Advance. I'd probably stick with Rock Slide/Substitute/Focus Punch/Thunder Wave (as much as I hate relying in flinch if you're using Thunder Wave anyway you may as well give yourself the chance at flinching). Iron Head is kinda cool but Steel is a pretty useless offensive type.

Aggron really hasn't changed much this generation, I only hope the UU game hasn't changed enough to hurt his position in it much.

Aggron's the best Rock / Steel IMO, but I can't see it being too successful outside of UU. With Hippowdon / Garchomp / Gliscor / Rhyperior around he would be relatively hard to get in. He's still a great Pokemon and can ignore his new-found steel STAB in Iron Head and just use Stone Edge / Focus Punch / Earthquake / Thunder Wave, a variation on a UU staple from Advance.

If I were to use him in OU it would have to be on a team with Gliscor. Gliscor's the best Earthquake-immune wall in the game probably, and I would also say to pair with Hippo, but that makes for 3x weak to water. Pairing with TTar makes for 8x weak to fighting and adds another ground weakness.

He suffers the same problem that Probopass does due to his horrid defensive typing, he eats up so many weaknesses that you end up having to build the team around keeping him safe, and for Aggron that might just be too much to deal with.

gengar is better since it immune to both his 4x weaks

Gengar is a great choice, but I might be more inclined to opt for Mismagius since it can offer Thunder Wave support and is more tankish than Gengar. Both are CB Pursuit weak, though, and are likely OHKOed if you guess wrong and get stuck in against a CB Pursuiter, especially STAB.

Doesn't Aggron have that Counter/Mirror Coat move in 1 as well? Could be a fun novelty methinks, despite its not so high HP and all...

Ironically, Aggron has the highest HP out of all the Metal Bursters. (The only other one being Bastiodon)

Aggron @ Leftovers
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 Spd / SDef

- Thunderpunch
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch
- Curse / Filler

Elegron.

Aggron @ Leftovers
- Taunt
- Metal Burst
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake

Could be interesting with Wish support, as it can take hits well.

A Curse Aggron is like a inferior CurseTar without Sandstorm support, so it wouldn't really work I guess. Might be best to finish that set off with a Stone Edge for STAB

With the new info on Sandstorm, maybe Aggron will see more use in the OU environment. Not saying it'll be a hit there but I'm sure people will try to take advantage of the Special Defence boost.

Aggron@Focus Sash/Focus Strip/Smooth Rock
-Rock Polish
-Stone Edge/Sandstorm
-Endeavor
-Substitute/Endure

I'm actually kind of fond of this moveset

It probably works best with Hippowdon support due to Sandstorm. If you do then Stone Edge can be put over Sandstorm. Its a variation on Endeaverpert except this one can actually outspeed alot of things with Rock Polish.

Aggron@Leftovers
Focus Punch
Metal Burst
Substitute
Stone Edge/Ice Punch

Aggron is the only Pokemon that can use Focus Punch AND Metal Burst, which combined makes for a pretty funderful prediction-based combo. Sub for safety measures, and then an attack move to round things out: Either Stone Edge for STAB power or Ice Punch to take down the Ground types.

I do like the Metal Burst/Focus Punch combo. Very nice. My last two attacks would probably be Stone Edge and Iron Tail, but that's only because Substitute isn't my style.

Speaking of Stone Edge and Iron Tail, I wonder how by much the Zoom Lens improves accuracy and when exactly it activates. I don't think the researchers have messed with it much.
