The Everything NHL Thread

Good. I love the guy, and he's worth every penny. Also, I just want to see him be the next Gordie Howe and crack 40 goals at age 74.

So.. who has NHL 12? We need more players for our EASHL team!! Please contact Carl or Synre or me if you want to play. You don't even have to be good! All you have to do is understand how hockey works.

edit: Also, preferably you are not a person that complains more than I do. I'm already annoying enough.

Hey guys, it's almost fantasy hockey time!!

I really have less time than ever so I really don't feel like I should be any sort of leader in this. I will still play for sure and check my team every day (currently still managing to check my baseball team every day) but I don't think I should be involved in all the great discussion we always produce.

And there is probably a lot to discuss.

So basically I can set up the league how ever you guys want, just give me the exact details and I won't even question it.

I can also just create the league and then hand the commish over to Synre, which might just be the best idea. I wouldn't be opposed to this at all at this point.

Let me know!

I feel like we're hopefully at the point where we don't need to make too many format changes other than handling new owners when we need them and I guess keeper rules for after this season, but I'd be fine with commishing... I end up spending a decent amount of time chatting with almost everyone in the league regularly during the season anyway, so it's probably convenient. I'll still be around a lot during the week this season; it's little different game for me living off-campus and not in a major city there than it is for you, I imagine. I'm not sure exactly how the mechanics of keepers work on yahoo but I think right now we're just planning on using the same settings as last year + pick any 6 keepers with more stringent keeper rules to be added for next year, so...

And yeah, 360 cashew.

Not to mention the tiered money for this year's draft (I still assume we're using Vin's layout for that). I already informed pookar of who is on his team about a month ago so he shouldn't be scrambling at the last minute or anything like that.

See this is why our fantasy thread is ass.

The first Jets game was insane. It felt like the crowd scored a couple of the goals on their own.....

6-1 first game go jets go

God I hope this isn't true:

Don't know how credible he is (in terms of reporting), but his opinions are kinda stupid.

A legitimate first line center sounds great for the Leafs. His numbers are declining but he's still better than anything they have now. Ottawa is also rebuilding through young talent while Burke thinks he can trade his way to the top, so I could see it being legitimate. Kind of want to see how Spezza and Kessel would work together now.

I never considered Spezza as a first line center, especially since he has never been able to duplicate his 90 pt season (and got progressively worse). His defence is still atrocious (people said it improved, but I still don't see it), and honestly I think he's overpaid.

I still don't think you can argue that he's worse than any option Toronto has already. If they get a cheap deal from a division rival, why not? He probably is overpaid though; not sure what his contract is.

On another topic: I'm really interested to see how good Mark Sheifele is in game action. It never really sunk in that we got our team back until I saw the game highlights and read an article about Dancing Gabe, Portage and Main, and an arena I've been in multiple times. Very much looking forward to going to the pub to watch games for the season and looking forward to the Jerseys being sold.

It'll have to be real cheap, which I don't see being realistic. Toronto already screwed the pooch and traded away 2 top 10 picks, not really looking forward to a heart attack at my age.

If I were a leafs fan I would want Spezza...the current #1 Center's best offensive season (Tim Connolly) in one where he actually played more than 60 games was 65 points in 73 games, for a .89 ppg. Spezza's worst season since the lockout was 3 years ago at 73 points in 82 games, for the same .89 ppg. Basically the leafs would need Connolly to have his best season AND be healthy to match Spezza's worst season >_>

(I am aware Connolly had 47 points in 48 games once, but I don't consider just 48 games played form a number 1 center to be beneficial to what will be a borderline playoff team at best and will need its best players on the ice from the beginning to the end).

Does anyone remember that website that showed all the line combinations for teams and percentages they played them at and for previous years? I tried googling it and couldn't find it...

EDIT: On the Spezza to the leafs matter, assuming it does happen, that would actually make their offense pretty damn balanced and effective.

Line 1: Lupul / Spezza / Kessel (Spezza to Kessel turns Kessel into a 40 goal scorer and arguably shoves Spezza back into ppg discussion and maybe even 90 points with Lopul chipping in a respectable 50 points if remaining healthy)

Line 2: Macarthur / Grabovski / Kulimen (2 near 30 / 30 guys and a 20 / 40 guy in Macarthur)

Line 3: Kadri / Connolly / Armstrong (Slide Connolly back into line 3 where the pressure isn't on him and he isn't playing the biggest toughest dmen every night and help him boost Kadri's development along)

No idea if this rumor is even feasible or what the Leafs would actually give up (I'm assuming more draft picks lolol), but that makes their offense balanced, dangerous, and dare I say it...playoffs worthy. The D has a lot of potential (Phaneuf / Schenn / Liles / Komisarek) and Reimer could be the real deal at G...

I'd be very excited as a Leafs' fan if they managed to get Spezza for some draft picks.

Just so you guys know. This season is the last chance for your favorite team to win a Stanley Cup for a VVVVEEEERRRRYYY LLLLLOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGG Time... unless you're an Oiler fan. The 106 line is going to shred the NHL apart for the next decade. :P

Yes, let's discount teams such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Jose, who'll be relevant for the next three to four years, and the fact that the Oilers have no semblance of a coherent defense. Their next Pronger: an injured Whitney.

I was obviously kidding. Obviously the Oilers are a good 3 years away from being a contender. I'm just "homering". (is that the proper term?) Clearly Washington/ Chicago/ Philadelphia etc are going to be contenders for the next decade.

Oh and San Jose? Really? The one that's been choking the past 5 seasons, with Joe Thornton not getting any younger?

I'm curious as to how many people are going to skip the Ontario provincial election (tomorrow) to watch the Leafs game (tomorrow), live or on tv.
