Too much love for Chicago...

did you ignore the entire offseason or what

also, if Crosby comes back at least 95% not too late in the season, the Pens are going to be so ridiculous that it scares me. I'd say that they're definitely the favorites this year if Crosby can get healthy again, and even without them they have a decent shot.

Predictions 2 days late but whatever

East:

1. Washington
2. Pittsburgh
3. Boston
4. Philadelphia
5. Buffalo
6. Tampa Bay
7. New York (Rangers)
8. New Jersey

First round highlighted by a Flyers-Sabres rematch, as well as a Bruins-Lightning rematch. Honestly I picked the Devs as a homer pick, but I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Montreal made it instead of them.

West:

1. San Jose
2. Vancouver
3. Detroit
4. Chicago
5. Los Angeles
6. Nashville
7. Colorado
8. Anaheim

First round highlighted by a lot of divisional matchups. Colorado is my sleeper pick to make the playoffs. They went out and got a solid goalie (despite his injury problems), and they were a team that was looking like they would make the playoffs for a second straight year, until their monumental collapse halfway through the year. They also play in a pretty weak division which helps. However, they could just as easily not make it, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Dallas make the playoffs instead. Everyone makes a big deal about Richards leaving, but from what I saw of Benn last year, he looks like a very solid young player capable of making up for the loss of Richards if he continues to progress.

Playoffs:

Washington over NJ
Pitt over NYR
Boston over Tampa
Flyers over Buffalo

San Jose over Anaheim
Vancouver over Colorado
Preds over Red Wings
Chicago over LA

Flyers over Washington
Pitt over Boston

San Jose over Preds
Vancouver over Chicago

Pitt over Flyers
San Jose over Vancouver

San Jose over Pitt

I actually did. I'm not impressed. The Hacks have two good first and second lines. They have 2/3rds of a third line, and a fourth line talented at racking up the PIM. On defense they signed a glorified third pair Dman, a Columbus Blue Jacket outcast, and another Dman that racks up PIM. They never replaced Campbell. In net, they're relying on a sophomore rookie. That's a recipe for disaster.

also, if Crosby comes back at least 95% not too late in the season, the Pens are going to be so ridiculous that it scares me. I'd say that they're definitely the favorites this year if Crosby can get healthy again, and even without them they have a decent shot.
My goodness, on SO victory and they're the best team in hockey...

Go Dallas :P

That's pretty much exactly how I play video game defense fwiw

Late on these but nothing I've seen since then would really change how I'd predict standings anyway:

West:
1. Vancouver Canucks
2. San Jose Sharks
3. Detroit Red Wings
4. Los Angeles Kings
5. Chicago Blackhawks
6. Anaheim Ducks
7. Nashville Predators
8. Minnesota Wild
-
9. Edmonton Oilers
10. Columbus Blue Jackets
11. Dallas Stars
12. Calgary Flames
13. St Louis Blues
14. Colorado Avalanche
15. Phoenix Coyotes

Notes: Divisions should play a huge role in how the West plays out this year. I do not by any stretch of the imagination think Vancouver is the best team in the conference, but being in probably the worst division in hockey right now should easily let them repeat as the 1 seed. I think the Pacific and Central are similar in that they have three very good teams and two kind of OK ones, but the Pacific's good teams are a little better and their worse teams are a little worse. I would be less surprised if Chicago or Nashville won the Central instead of Detroit than if whichever of them finishes second in the Central finished in 4th above Los Angeles. Minnesota at 8 is a stretch but Phoenix should finally fall out with Bryzgalov and Minnesota looks like the second best team in the Northwest, which is still a good spot to be in in regard to picking up easy points. If Colorado or Edmonton(more likely) break out, they'll take the spot instead. I think Columbus and St Louis are better than the three Northwestern teams but they'll lose too many points against Chicago, Detroit, and Nashville.

Eastern Conference
1. Washington Capitals
2. Buffalo Sabres
3. Pittsburgh Penguins
4. Tampa Bay Lightning
5. Philadelphia Flyers
6. Boston Bruins
7. New York Rangers
8. Toronto Maple Leafs
-
9. Carolina Hurricanes
10. New Jersey Devils
11. New York Islanders
12. Montreal Canadiens
13. Florida Panthers
14. Ottawa Senators
15. Winnipeg Jets

Notes: I really wanted to drop the Flyers lower because I hate their offseason moves but alas, I just can't see it, Giroux too good... I'll just predict them to lose round 1 in the playoffs or something. Winnipeg being in the Southeast will have probably negatively impact the rest of their division with all the travel, but getting to beat up on Winnipeg and Florida and generally be strong teams should still let Tampa and Washington finish similarly to last year. Penguins were awfully good at the end of last year even missing their two best players, look for them to return to form more similar to their Cup team with the stars likely eventually getting healthy and some of the rest of their team improved with age like Letang and Fleury and some newer acquisitions like Neal. The Sabres still have some question marks to me with the lack of star power but Miller+any support at all is likely to be devastating, though both the Sabres and brink playoff team Rangers are so frighteningly goalie reliant. I think Boston is the better team, but cup hangover is a bitch. The last two slots are very much a toss-up but the Rangers are significantly improved with Richards even if they didn't look like it this weekend and a full year of Reimer for Toronto should lead them back to the playoffs long enough to lose in the first round.

Cup Prediction: Penguins defeat Sharks

Predictions:

West:
1. Los Angeles: This team's depth is retarded. They have like everything in every position, and the youth to back it up. They are among the league's upper echelon in every position, and I think Doughty will be more 2009-2010 than 2010-2011. With this team's ridiculous farm depth, its almost as if they want injuries so they can
2. Vancouver: They're going to choke anyways, so its not going to matter. Luongo and the Sedins are strictly regular season players. That being said, these regular season players will still ensure they finish high in the standings.
3. Chicago: They took a lot of hits to their roster last year, but getting rid of Brian Campbell has given them so much more flexibility. Toews/ Kane and crew have nowhere to go but up. Corey Crawford looked decent last year in his first shot as a starter, I feel he can be the legitimate thing.
4. Detroit: Detroit is always going to be Detroit. They seem to have the perfect development system going, and will probably be a contender for eternity.
5. San Jose: Yeah, the team has a stacked defense, but there are so many problems with this team that make it not a contender. The offense is getting old, I honestly doubt Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau are going to be getting 80+ points. Setoguchi is gone, and I'm almost certain Couture is going to have a soph slup. Goaltending still a mess, and their farm system is a complete joke. One key injury and they're id deep shit.
6. Anaheim: Corey Perry will probably not repeat what he did last year, but this team is going to be good regardless, especially with a healthy Getzlaf
7. Nashville: Wont ever get the financial support to run a competitive team. However, fantastic coaching and management will ensure they still make the playoffs.
8. St. Louis: This team is just waiting for a break out. They're lock and loaded for years to come, and now they just play the waiting game and hope their youth takes them far.
9. Dallas: Losing Brad Richards is going to be a huge hit for this team's center depth. However, their wings are still very potent, and their defense and goaltending are at least passable. I do think that Dallas is going to be stuck in no mans land for the next few years, not good enough to make the dance, not bad enough to get a lottery pick.
10. Minnesota: My god do the Northwest suck this year. Canucks are going to finish high just because they play with these 4 scrubs all year long. Minnesota is kinda like Dallas, no mans land.
11. Colorado: I don't think Varlamov and Landeskog are enough an improvement to push this team into the playoffs. As well, are the Avs stupid or something? Why would they trade their 1st round pick in the 2012 draft of all times? Everyone says that this draft is 2003 and 2008 all over again.
12. Edmonton: I would be a homer and put the Oilers at 1, but yeah, this is a more realistic finish for them. I'm just going to enjoy the ride and see how the 106 line clicks, as long as all the young guns show improvement, I'm happy.
13. Columbus: Have you seen their defense? Jeff Carter isn't going to make this team competitive.
14. Phoenix: The entire team was basically Ilya Bryzgalov, now he's gone and they have like Mike Smith or something in net.
15. Calgary: Is there a bigger joke management in the NHL than Calgary? They had the whole bromance management thing going. Probably the worst drafting in the NHL (Greg Nemisz in the first round? Really?), and by far the worst transactions history in the past few years. Here's a list of stupid trades they've made the past few years:
Jokinen+Prust for Higgins+Kotalik (this is REALLY REALLY bad, I'll explain in a later trade)
Phaneuf+Aulie+Sjostrom for Stajan+Hagman+Mayers+White (two of the leafs top 4 dmen for scrubs? nice)
3rd+Johnson for Staios (I'm an Oiler fan, I can assure you I would've traded Staios for a 7th)
Erixon for a bunch of picks (Not really their fault with the trade itself, but the fact that they picked a player who had no intention of playing for them is a fail
Reghr+Kotalik+2nd for Butler+Byron (They had to give up a second round pick to get rid of Kotalik, lol, and who the fuck are Butler and Byron)

East:
1. Washington: This team is friggin gonna be beast. They finally got a goalie in Vokoun, and even if Vokoun gets injured, I think Neuvirth is a legitimate goalie of the future. Their offense is still numero uno in the league and their defense is starting to come together as well.
2. Philadelphia: The reason they've failed the past few years is one position: goaltending. Yeah they lost their two best forwards, but they addressed a more pressing need. Besides, I think Schenn, Voracek, and Simmonds are going to fit nicely into that Philly offense.
3. Boston: Stanley Cup defending champs, nuff said.
4. Pittsburgh: As long as Crosby comes back where he was half way through last season, this team is gonna be beast.
5. Tampa: Their offense is really all they need. Now if only they hadn't tried playing defense in game 7 of the conference finals last year...
6. Buffalo: They improved a lot this year. But these improvements are still not enough to make them a contender.
7. New York Rangers: They got Brad Richards true, but shitty managing is going to ensure this team is never a contender again. Proof: Wade Redden
8. Montreal: Their team is average in every position, but don't suck at anything either. Average team yields average results.
9. Carolina: Jeff Skinner will certainly go through sophomore slump. Their team is also lacking the oomph needed to be a contender. No mans land for this team for the next 5 years.
10. Toronto: The Phil Kessel trade has fucked this team up badly. They're currently stuck in no mans land, not good enough to be a contender, not suckish enough for a lottery pick (well they did get one, but once again, Phil Kessel trade). Brian Burke has made some pretty good moves to make up for that first brainfart. But they're never going to get Seguin back.
11. New Jersey: Stop riding Martin Brodeur's cock.
12. Winnepeg: I don't think Winnepeg Jets fans are going to care about results this year. Everyone's going to be happy enough that the Jets are back. However, the honeymoon period can only last so long...
13. New York Islanders: They're the Islanders, do you really think they're going to make the playoffs?
14. Ottawa: They're basically pulling an "Oilers", don't even bother improving your roster and hope you get a nice pick to show for it.
15. Florida: Its Florida, nuff said.

Playoffs:
1. Los Angeles vs 8. St Louis 6 games well this is pretty obvious
2. Vancouver vs 7. Nashville 7 games Luongo chokes
3. Chicago vs 6. Anaheim 4 games Chicago gonna dom
4. Detroit vs 5. San Jose 6 games Detroit avenges last year

1. Washington vs 8. Montreal 7 games well who hasn't seen this before?
2. Philadelphia vs 7. New York Rangers 4 games this is going to be a bloody massacre
3. Boston vs 6. Buffalo 6 games Thomas not going to do it again
4. Pittsburgh vs 5. Tampa 7 games revenge from last year, Tampa tries playing defense again game 7 and massively fails (again)

1. Los Angeles vs 7. Nashville 4 games Nashville gets pummeled
3. Chicago vs 4. Detroit 5 games Detroit too old

2. Philadelphia vs 8. Montreal 7 games Philadelphia just has that choke atmosphere to them.
4. Pittsburgh vs. 6. Buffalo 5 games Buffalo don't stand a chance

1. Los Angeles vs 3. Chicago 6 games Chicago too strong

4. Pittsburgh vs 8. Montreal 7 games You heard it here first folks, miracles do exist

3. Chicago vs 8. Montreal 7 games Montreal Canadiens fans have experienced this so many times that they were sure they'd win. But nope, miracles actually don't exist. HaHa. You guys have enough Cups already anyways, so screw you.

Bruins coming in cold after the short summer with a 1-2 record. Both goalies look spectacular, it's the offense/defense that is a little slow. I guess that's why it's hard to win two in a row... :]

8. Montreal: Their team is average in every position, but don't suck at anything either. Average team yields average results.

3. Chicago vs 8. Montreal 7 games Montreal Canadiens fans have experienced this so many times that they were sure they'd win. But nope, miracles actually don't exist. HaHa. You guys have enough Cups already anyways, so screw you.

Sure.

Washington scores 5 goals and Ovechkin / Semin / Green / Backstrom combine for 0 total points?

Damn this isn't 2009 anymore...

EDIT:

Actually lol...washington and the bolts each score 5 goals in a game and all of ovechkin / semin / green / backstrom / lecavelier / stamkos / st. louis combined for 0 points lol...

If you watched the game, you'd know why the Caps stars didn't get on the board. Worst coached team in the NHL.

Likely going to miss the introductions which is kinda the part I'm most interested in but will be excited to see how LA @ PHI plays out today with Richards going back to Philly. The more I think about it though, I know Richards is bitter about being traded and everything, but considering you know they shipped him and Carter cross-conference on purpose can you imagine a better situation he could have feasibly ended up in?

Will be fun to watch, regardless.

Well, just got back from my Coyotes home opener game, was very nice to see them beat the Thrashers, er Jets. And it's even nicer the Coyotes are NOT in fucking Canada.

oh

how did that home opener go? even the cheating refs couldnt bail the slugs out.

Ugh, whoever decided to put Vanek/Ennis on the PP point should be immediately fired.

3-1 now, and the Pens made it closer than it really was.

Fucking Tavares single handedly made me lose in Fantasy this week.

And according to CBC Nugent-Hopkins is now the next Gretzky.
