DISGUSTING

I don't recall reading about a rule on smogon that allows for mods to punish people for posts they deem in their opinion to be "bad". Could you please enlighten me on this new rule?
The rule is don't be stupid. Now stop being it.

This will end well.

Columbus needs some change soon. One of the highest payrolls in the league and haven't won yet. Even with Carter and Wisneiwski (however you spell it, and he hasn't played yet so =/), they've been crapping the bed. Although it's probably the fault of their secondary scoring. Nash-Prospal-Carter combined for more than 3/4s of the goals scored by them thus far. Their power play is atrocious too.

With Steve Mason as your best goalie it is tough to win games.

if your team is named the BJs, it should be no surprise that you're really good at sucking

in other news, Hawks continue to look like the team we all thought they'd be. Another great performance against a really great AVES team, especially from Crawford.

hopes are high

We offer Schneider for Nash. /sarcasm

Mason was a revelation in his rookie year. Wonder how he fell off the face of the Earth.

Toews needs to get more points. I didn't draft him in 4th round for nothing! Crawford is also solid for my fantasy team.

One of the raging topics this year (besides "Will the Jets wrest the title of 'Worst Team in the Eastern Conference' from the Senators?" and "Will 'Dustin Byfuglien is Fat' Jokes Ever Get Old?") is the issue of realignment, so I thought it would be interesting to see what Smogon thought of the issue. My idea is this:

- expand to 32 teams (one in Quebec City, one in an American city. For the sake of the argument, let's go with Seattle or Houston).
- format consisting of two conferences with two divisions of eight teams each
- each team plays against each team in their division six times, each of the teams in the other division in their conference three times, and each team in the opposing conference once (for a total of 82 games)
- top two teams from each division are guaranteed a playoff spot. Next four teams with best records grab last four spots.

My proposed divisions:

Prince of Wales/Eastern Conference

Patrick Division:
- Boston
- Montreal
- NY Rangers
- NY Islanders
- Washington
- Carolina
- Tampa Bay
- Florida

Adams Division
- Pittsburgh
- Philadelphia
- Quebec
- Ottawa
- Toronto
- Columbus
- Buffalo
- New Jersey

Campbell/Western Conference

Norris Division
- Detroit
- Nashville
- Chicago
- St. Louis
- Minnesota
- Winnepeg
- Dallas
- Colorado/Houston

Smythe Division
- Edmonton
- Calgary
- Vancouver
- Seattle/Colorado
- Anaheim
- Los Angeles
- San Jose
- Phoenix

Under this system, no team has to travel more than two time zones for intra-conference games (with the exception of Detroit). Only the Smythe Division (and Detroit and Colorado) has to play intra-divisional games outside their time zone, and the only divisional rivalry that would necessitate travel of two time zones would be Detroit-Colorado*. Playoffs would remain relatively the same, and there would be no ugly arguments such as might occur with other formats with unequal divisions.

* in the event of a Seattle expansion.

I'll happily assume the Nordiques are back, but I'll counterpropose with something closer to what you suggested to me earlier in the chatroom. Something that in my opinion makes a lot more sense geographically.

Vincent Division:
- Boston
- Montreal
- Toronto
- Quebec
- Buffalo
- Ottawa
- Pittsburgh
- Columbus/Detroit

Adams Division
- Philadelphia
- Carolina
- Tampa
- Florida
- Washington
- New York
- Long Island
- New Jersey

I didn't like the idea of splitting Quebec and Montreal apart, as well as New Jersey from the Rangers and Islanders. Then again, I don't enjoy having the Pens and Flyers in different divisions.

I enjoy your timezone approach to the western conference.

Pretty nifty trade went down:

To Vancouver:
  • David Booth
  • Steven Reinprecht
  • 3rd Round Pick

To Florida:
  • Marco Sturm
  • Mikael Samuelsson

I assume this is more about money since I think Florida could've gotten something better in terms of building blocks.

Tallon wants to clear space for the next FA which... doesn`t hold much, except Suter, and Weber on the top of my head. Booth wasn`t part of Tallon`s plan I guess.

Canucks get a player that has a good upside, but still is questionable. We send a bag of pucks and a very streaky scorer who is lazy defensively but when he`s on his game, a great goal scorer. I`m still kind of upset we lost Samuelsson, but I`m excited to see what happens.

That trade seems like a bunch of players I don't think are very good for some other players I don't think are very good but David Booth is the most desirable player from that trade IMO so I guess the Canucks win.

Also I'm intruged by the Kings new strategy "never let the other team score ever." Watching Wings/Caps tonight was kind of a weird feeling as a fan of both teams, nice to see the Caps at their best, and I continue feeling like the Caps roster is designed so much more intelligently this year with weird concepts like "competent third and fourth lines," "being mostly in shape," and "playing players in positions that make sense," but man that's an embarrassing lost for Detroit lol.

Yeah, what a beat down by the Caps. Tough to play a good, quality opponent like that in the second game of a back to back and Washington Capitalized (har har).

I think that's a good trade for Vancouver more than Florida. Booth could add more dimension to that team than a redundant Samuelsson or past his prime Sturm could. I saw something about the Canucks liking Samuelsson on the point for the power play but I was never a fan when he was in that position in Detroit so I don't think the Nucks lost that much in the deal. Hodgson has been playing fairly well from what I've heard so Sturm was expendable. In essence, a one player swap and Booth is the younger, and better, of the two. And they got a third round pick!

atm. the Jets should be trying just about everything. They make the 2003 Pittsburgh Penguins look good right about now.

Yeah man I was puking in disgust as I watched the Jets most recent game. Team is absolutely dreadful.

On a serious note, I'm really impressed with the play of Mark Stuart, Tobias Enstrom and Alexander Burmistrov. All defensively responsible on a team that's bad defensively, and Burmistrov has been lighting it up. I was happy with their play before the game, and then I saw the 5 on 3 and noticed all 3 of them were playing on it. Carolina's PP isn't the best, but it was still great for me to watch. Really loving their play so far.

They really need to make Byfuglien a forward again. A -6 while playing defense? Absolutely dreadful. He doesn't pick good times to lead rushes and doesn't hustle back to play defense when he does mess up. His play has been making me rage so far and if he was a fan favourite in pre season, I would be shocked if he was now.

Did anyone actually expect the Jets to do well? The fact that it's their inaugural season and that their players are young, and have Wellwood on their second line kind of shows they're probably going to finish near last in the Eastern Conference. I still see the last spot reserved for Ottawa though.

Samuelsson on the point was terrible. Glad he's gone. Salo on the point would be infinitely more useful. Sedin-Sedin-Kesler-Edler-Salo 1st PP unit would be great, especially since Salo still has that laser slapper of his.

Also the Canucks are apparently not done. Eklund (lol) has them trading with Phoenix with Turris. Sounds like BS but he predicted the Canucks trading with Florida as part 1 of a 3 part plan, and also predicted Phoenix clearing roster space (which they did with the trade to Montreal). Tanev is in "maintenance" and didn't play yesterday and won't be playing today either in the AHL. I wish it could be Tanev + for Turris, but I'm still iffy on this. Bob Mckenzie and Darren Dreger also hinted the Canucks are still in the midst of wanting a trade.

The nucks need to get rid of luongo in my opinion....Schneider (RIP manitoba moose) is better. Think of who they could get for him too. I hope that rumoured TB trade happens (Luongo for Vinny Lecavalier)

And yea Buff is just fucking terrible at Defense. Most of Winnipeg's goals that weren't Burmistrov snipes were just because he is fucking huge and standing in front of the net. They can still put him at the point during PPs but he's almost as terrible as Oduya as a D (ie horrible).

I'm not sure if I want to get an Endstrom or Burmistrov jersey.....

I have a Teemu Jets jersey, so if I get Burmistrov I'd have two #8s /nostalgia.
