To be fair, on paper anyway, the canucks forwards / d men are anything but shitty.
The canucks have significant depth that other teams would kill for...generally when you have a solid team on paper and two supposedly good goalies and you're doing poorly, the coach is failing to put it together.
Dunno if mr. frenchie will get fired tho
We may have depth but we've got huge issues to sort through.
1. Malholtra. He's be underwhelming in most departments this season. I honestly think we may have rushed him back to the finals too early. If you watch him in his interviews, you can see he can barely see out of that eye. He's still great at the dot and still a defensive specialist, but he can't make passes or be offensive enough, which hinders Hodgson's numbers and play.
2. Hansen. Took a huge step back. His defensive play has regressed and his already meager offensive skills disappeared. He has one goal this season, which was from a tip in against the Wild. Pretty underwhelming this season.
3. Bieksa. Might be trying to play like Ehrhoff but fails totally. His breakout passes are bordering on terrible, and are liable to interception. Defense has been totally awful this year.
4. Edler. Still physical, but in the PP, he can't generate enough accurate shots. Misses the net too much, and we can't have that on the PP.
5. Sedins. They're still "good" but it feels they're playing way too cute this season. Not taking enough shots in my opinion. They're not playing enough defense also. For example: Van vs Edm, both Sedins were checking Hall + another Edmonton player in the side. Hall manages to get a pass out that should have not happened, if the Sedins were playing proper defense, which landed at Eberle's stick, who was coincidentally free in the slot.
I'll give Kesler a pass since he just came back. Hodgson, Weise and Lapierre have both exceeded expectations in my opinion. Lapierre is constantly hustles and still pisses off the opposition. Hodgson has been strong on the puck and can generate enough offense, but needs better linemates. Weise has been a great 4th liner and can even generate some offense. I think the Rangers made a mistake putting him on waivers. Our PP has been pretty bad, and I feel that net presence and second chance goals is what we desperately need. The sedins don't rush the net, and Kesler is the one usually shooting. The arrival of Booth should help considerably.
We all know Luongo is struggling so I won't get into that.
This team looks nice on paper, but each player is sorting out their individual play. Maybe it's the lack of play time in the preseason, but our veterans are slow to get going.
I don't see Alain getting the boot unless this team's poor play keeps up in mid-end November. We're 4-5-1 this October; we were 4-4-2 last October. We don't need to necessarily start panicking until midway into November.
Also, obviously Gillis is following the Pittsburgh Penguin's cup model.
