Fun times with rain stall (301 turn battle!)

Stall, stall, stall. 4th gen seemed to be all about stall. But 5th gen, stall seems to be very tricky to pull off. I decided to have a shot at reviving my love of stall in 5th gen, and came up with this really fun stall team.
Now i've noticed that many people when writing an RMT here boast about where their team peaked on the ladder. I play the game for fun and thus have no care for 'laddering' and so i shall not boast where my team peaked, but instead it's battle peak. A 301 turn monster stall battle.

Love (Politoed) @ Leftovers
Ability: Drizzle
Nature: Bold
Ev's: 252 HP 158 Def 98 SpD
- Protect
- Toxic
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam

Politoed is the reason that most of this team suddenly becomes viable and annoying. Rain brings a wide range of benifits to the team and even benifits politoed itself, by boosting it's STAB Hydro Pump. This Toxicstall set i have been using since generation 3, and when politoed got amazing new toys in B/W, it opened up a whole new world for my second favourite pokemon.

Joy (Dewgong) @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
Nature: Bold
Ev's: 252 HP, 142 Def, 114 SpD
- Stockpile
- Rest
- Toxic
- Surf

Politoed being my second favourite pokemon, Dewgong is my first. People often see my team and ask me why i use Dewgong and try to convince me that it's pathetic, but i find that i constantly set up with this and force many forfiets or stallsweep. In fact, i find it difficult for me to not set up with this. Stockpile allows it to take one hit and then a second, and rest on the second hit, and then stockpiling again. Then, when i'm at +6/+6, i toxic and stall. The only problem is that crits laugh all over dewgong's face. besides that, Dewgong is really the star player of my team and has even bagged me a few clean 6-0's. Dewgong is the reason this team came around. I WILL NOT BE REPLACING IT FOR ANYTHING, NOT FOR VAPOREON. DO NOT EVEN SUGGEST IT. dewgong is amazing in this team and when you laugh at it, it just makes it more funny when i continually sweep with Dewgong

Peace (Dragonite) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Multiscale
Nature: Mild
Ev's: 252 SpA, 252 SpE, 4 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Hurricane
- Thunder
- Earthquake

Scarf Dragonite? Are you insane, Mewcario? No I am not. Scarf dragonite works extremely well because, well, who expects a scarf dragonite? It revenges +1 Gyrados, outspeeds starmie and jolteon, beats down scrafty, all of which stay in because they assume that they will outspeed and KO. Wrong. Earthquake is only there to take care of CM Jirachi.

Paitence (Gastrodon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
Nature: Bold
Ev's: 4 HP, 252 Def, 252 SpD
-Amnesia
-Scald
-Ice Beam
-Recover

Took out jirachi to tes a gastrodon, and was very impressed. Counters rain team AND a nice niche with an electric immunity. Scald gets the burn on physical attackers and amnesia allows it to tank special hits.

Goodness (Tentacruel) @ Leftovers
Ability: Rain Dish
Nature: Bold
Ev's: 252 HP, 240 Def, 16 SpE
- Toxic Spikes
- Protect
- Scald
- Rapid Spin

Tentacruel makes an amazing support pokemon for this team, and a brilliant counterpart teamate for Roserade. It can set up Tspikes and spin away nasty things that threaten Dragonite's multiscale. Protect is there for scouting and providing more healing.

Faith (Roserade) @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid
Ev's: 252 SpA 252 SpE 4 HP
- Substitute
- Hidden Power (Fire)
- Giga Drain
- Venoshock

The only reason i put roserade in my team was because ferrothorn gave me a headache without it. I considered having a ferrothorn of my own, but decided against it. I chose roderade because of it's immunity to leech seed and ability to scare off ferrothorn and it provides the only grass move, to keep the likes of swampert and gastrodon in check. Venoshock is a nice STAB that works well with toxic spikes support

...And that's my team!
Please, if you liked it, or would like to give me a few suggestions, please leave me some feedback! I have really enjoyed playing around with this team and i hope you guys could help me improve it and have more fun with it!

God Bro, seriously i've NEVER Seen a Rain Team this Scary in my whole life........EVER!!! I'd love to face this team, and you say this is PO right? I'd love to give myself a challenge, and attempt to face this team. I don't think there is anything to change and i ever ran into scarf D-Nite, i'd goodbye to my team xD. All and All i'd say this is a VERY Destructive Stall team, and the most Innovative i've seen someone use for Rain by far (Aside from yesterday).

Like the team and I can say that I definitely hate playing against stall. I like the toxic spike/venoshock combo, I've always been intrigued by why people don't use venoshock. I would replace leftovers on Tentacruel with Black Sludge so if a Rotom or Latios uses Trick it would be left with a useless item instead of Leftovers. Also include an exportable version so users can try out the team and give a better rate

This team looks great. My only suggestion would be to maybe try out a Hex user? I haven't tested it but it seems to go well with the tox spikes/venoshock combo you have going.

Hydration vaporeon plain outclasses hydration dewgong. It boasts a better defensive typing as a pure water type without nasty weaknesses to fighting moves and stealth rock. It's much much better than dewgong - with better defenses (you can boost with acid armour if you want) and the ability to hit so much harder. Not to mention your dewgong is just a set-up bait for toxicroak.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Bold, 252hp/252 def/4 sp.atk
- Scald
- Toxic/Ice Beam
- Rest
- Roar/ Acid armour

Roar is preferred against things that try to set-up on you whilst acid armour lets it stat boost if that's what you want. Seeing that you have toxic spikes laid out, why not run ice beam? It'll nab you the crucial KOs or dent opposing dragons/flying types and grasses (bar ferrothorn of course).

I think mewcario said it himself that nobody will convince him to change dewgong. But I wanna face the team myself lolz maybe I can find a flaw within and point it out.

Hydration Dewgong can also have Icy wind/Rain dance, Rest, Surf & Ice beam.
-Rain dance to counter the weather changers; bar DW Ninetales w/ Solar beam or scarfed T-tar that run Rockslide.
-Icy wind is an option to slow the opponent each attack.
-Rest for replinishing HP(Hydration+Rain).
-Surf for STAB & (Rain's effect)Rain boost.
-Ice beam to hit Dragon's hard.
*Watch for bulky water's such as CalmMind Suicune & Water absorb/Hydration Vaporeon.*

Ohk, i will! Thanks for the suggestions! Expect the exportable version to be up sometime soon!

I was thinking about a hex pokemon like jellicent, but what would i take out? Can't take out roserade, it provides a nice electric resistance instead of a weakness.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Bold, 252hp/252 def/4 sp.atk
- Scald
- Toxic/Ice Beam
- Rest

No, i much prefer my Dewgong set. On this team, I can find no way in which Vaporeon outclasses Dewgong for it's role. Unlike Vaporeon, Dewgong can boost booth stats at once, and get to +6/+6 where only a crit can beat it. But a crit is a crit, if i do get critted, well, thats part of the game and i just have to move onto the next pokemon. Its a nice suggestion, but people are aware of what Vaporeon can do, and so they usually know how to deal with one. Dewgong is NU and people i face litteraly laugh at it. They don't know what i'm going to do with it and they don't care. Making it more fun for me to set up on them and give them hell. Besides, dewgong needs all the love it can ger. Naturally, I am countered by toxicroak, but i wouldn't leave Dewgong in when i have many other options to take it out.

-Ice beam to hit Dragon's hard.
*Watch for bulky water's such as CalmMind Suicune & Water absorb/Hydration Vaporeon.*

Hmmm, a reasonable set, I like the idea of having a backup, but having to carry raindance in gen4 made me stray away from the move in gen 5 where i can just use politoed. With my set, i can sweep with stall but also bulky water's are not much of a problem, as i can just toxic them.

I think mewcario said it himself that nobody will convince him to change dewgong. But I wanna face the team myself lolz maybe I can find a flaw within and point it out.

Dewgong is the reason this team works so well, damn right I wont change it. When you face me, the only flaw might be not the team, but me whose using the team ;)

Congrats on using Dewgong effectively, he is such a substandard Poke and it's nice to see people who have the creativity to pull it off.

I guess you could call this a stall team. But it looks like it has pretty destructive potential. I would like to ask why you chose Jirachi and Roserade. They seem like oddballs for a rain team.
And even though it's been brought up, Dewgong. It looks like the weakest link. It's far weaker than Vaporeon. And generally, the surprise factor is not worth using a much weaker pokemon...

Everyone knows how annoying jirachi is in rain, it's never out of place in a rain team. As i explianed, roserade was only there to take care of ferrothorn and provide a grass STAB. I have used vaporeon more than i've used dewgong, but Dewgong works better. With Dewgong i've swept more teams and bagged more 6-0's than vaporeon can only dream of. It's like Volbeat: People say Lol volbeat, free time so set up, and then they get screwed. No-one takes dewgong seiously and Dewgong makes them pay for underestimating him. Dewgong is the star player and never the weakest link. Underestimate him and you're next on his list.

Nevermind about Jirachi. It makes sense because he's a specially defensive variant and his weakness is fire, which rain weakens. I still think roserade is not entirely necessary as you have Jirachi and Dragonite. And I also still think Dewgong is outclassed by vaporeon, as has been said by someone else. But you know your team best, after all.

I personally fail to see how something that has so many demerits can help you in attaining the sweeps you mentioned. Fighting mons are very common in this metagame. Your only hope of beating them is using hurricane from your dragonite. What is your answer to sand and sun teams?

Next you're using dewgong without an ice move so you're not utilising its ice STAB effectively. I'm sorry but I just don't see how is dewgong effective seeing it won't even get to +6 while at least vaporeon has the chance to and it hits a hell lot harder coming off 110 sp. atk. Vaporeon may be predictable but it's OU for a reason - it works. And I'm sure top players can handle dewgong way easily (as long as it can't stat boost such as by taunt jellicent, taunt gyarados). Even if stall vaporeon gets taunted, it at least has a chance in crippling things like gyara with scald which I don't think dewgong learns (water/ice types don't learn scald) or u can always give vaporeon HP Electric which was popular back in gen 4 as well. And your dragonite won't be able to revenge all types of gyarados seeing how gyarados has better speed than dragonite and if it's running jolly max speed/substitute, after a DD scarf dnite is outsped instead. Even max speed adamant +1 gyarados outspeeds. However, I acknowledge that the gyarados may not be running ice fang/stone edge or your multiscale is intact thus allowing you to slay it.

I have ever watch a player using a hydration vaporeon to sweep in an orthodox manner which is something dewgong can never do. Volbeat at least has a niche in baton passing tail glow even though it's still too much of a joke.

But have fun anyway, it's your team so it's for you to decide and I respect that. I'm not saying dewgong is a fail of a pokemon but if you think dewgong works then so be it.

After two stockpiles i've taken superpowers from CB scizors without fear of being OHKO'd. What's my answer to sand and sun teams? Engage in a weather war, simple. I've never lost a weather war with this team. Maybe Dewgong's sweeps seems to be unorthodox, a sweep is still a sweep. And Dewgong sweeps very well and efficiently. Keep in mind that this is a stall team and dewgong fills a stall role here more efficiently than vaporeon. I'm happy with dewgong and NEVER will change it. Vaporeon might hit harder but i don't need a hard hitter thank you.

"After two stockpiles"...
Really? In all practicality, I don't think too much about what my Volcarona and my Salamence (two pokemon on my main team) can do after dancing their stats up twice. I don't give myself that much credit because if you think you'll have that much time to set up in 9/10 matches, you're in for a rude awakening. And just saying, but I'd take a vaporeon with acid armor over dewgong with stockpile.

Stop hating Dewgong. It takes skill to use it, obvious skill you don't have. Why use Acid armour vaporeon if you team has a spot for vap why use an acid armour set unless you intend to BP it to something. Im quite sure you will be in for a rude awakening when you face on in battle.

Hells yeah! Seeing rain differently!

First off, opposing rain teams cause a problem with Specs/Scarf Rotom. Thunder and Hydro Pump massacre everything you have. I'd fix this problem by putting in a SpD Gastrodon somewhere, but your team is pretty solid, I can't say what to switch.

I'd like to say, that I love this team. First off, I'd say Dewgong is outclassed by Vaporeon. But, there is a creative way you can fix this! Introducing: Perish Song Dewgong! Its a simple set:
Joy (Dewgong) @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
Nature: Bold
Ev's: 252 HP, 252 Def 4 SpD (made this spread up, use what you want.)
- Perish Song
- Rest
- Toxic
- Whirlpool /Surf
You my questions this set or laugh it at, but I assure you, it works magic, and fits well in your team. Its simple, Whirlpool anything thing that isn't immune and use Perish Song. Whirlpool traps any hit targer for 2-5 turns. While Whirlpool is going, you can proceed to Rest spam in the rain and essentially NEVER DIE while your opponent can't kill you nor switch out. If you get lucky, you can switch out, preserving Dewgong and having a dead poke on the other side. If you still prefer your current set (which seems great) keep it. This is just my two cents that still causes rage quits.

Love rain, keep it up!

Thanks for your opinion! I shall try out that set. On another note, I replaced Surf with Earthquake, gave it a mild nature and 4 Evs in Atk, just to take care of CM rachi and specially defensive, as my only attacking move is Jirachi's Iron Head.

Mewcario, its highly doubtful you've even used your Dewgong set; how else would you think that stockpile gets you to +6/+6 when it only goes to +3/+3? Also, please post a 6-0 dewgong log. anyways, vaporeon's better. Not only does it have better stats and much more powerful surf it can also use haze which is a psuedo-phazing move. Plus a crippling SR and fighting weakness aren't helping Dewgong out at all.

Oh wow, i made a mistake, get over it. You really think that it's even doubtful that I have ever used Dewgong? Really? I was using this team for over a week before I made this RMT. You want proof? fine, I'll post the log. No, vaporeon is not better. Maybe on paper it seems better, but trust me, it isn't. For this role, Dewgong is much better suited. I don't care about phazing at all, it's never been a problem. Maybe it's weak to SR, but i have a rapid spinner, did you even notice? highly doubtful. Volcarona has a x4 SR weakness but it's OU. And besides, it might be weak to fighting, but it certainly isn't a crippling weakness. Dewgong is surprisinlgy bulky. A timid LO jolteon does around 19% with a thunderbolt at +3, and CB scizor does under half with superpower at only +2.
