The Everything NHL Thread

There is no precedent for hitting goalies because nobody does it, especially to the extent Lucic did. He should've gotten 2-4 games because he's a repeat offender.

Ah, I see what you say about the repeat offender issue. However, I still don't see the issue with the hit and I don't think it should be worthy of suspension. I really don't think we'll be able to sway each other's opinions on this topic.

Your infraction self-martyrdom is really stale, stop kicking that horse.

It's quite upsetting to see a super mod make a post solely to insult me when I have done absolutely nothing wrong in this thread. I hardly ever post anymore so I don't see how anything I say could be stale.

jr you are the definition of a "fan". Start watching hockey while your team is doing great, win a cup, and talk shit like it's your job

give it a rest

Vintage hater comment. A bandwagon exists so every fan must be a bandwagon jumper. I've already stated multiple times that I started watching after the lockout, because I like the more offensive league. There's nothing more boring than watching 60 minutes of a neutral zone trap (also why I hate the Lightning). That's longer than the Julien era here in Boston. Not as long as some people in this thread have been watching hockey, but still long enough to not deserve the blatant insults to my fanhood that you people are derailing this thread with. I sat on the Boston streets at 6 a.m. just to get a good spot for the championship parade, so I am more than happy to brag and be a "scumbag Bruin fan" as Eraddd called me. I just love the fact that how much I watch hockey is being criticized in my posts and not the arguments I'm bringing up.

And I was talking shit for the Bruins before they won the Cup, check my thread posts from playoff time calling the win before it happened

I really don't think he made that post with the intent to hurt your feelings; he was just being flippant (and yes, a tiny bit dismissive), not attacking. Also, I think you're still operating under the assumption that this forum's rules are the same as Cong, wherein Synre's post probably would not have flown. Here in a forum, those little body jab posts appear to be well within the non-written, non-expressed rules (as you may have noticed, popemobile's responses to you have been much worse than Synre's).

good lord

back to NHL:

I've been noticing lately that there are a shit ton of back-ups that are simply playing that much better than their respective #1s. At least, way more than usual.

Bobrovsky > Bryzgalov
Schneider > Luongo
Elliot > Halak
Harding > Backstrom (slightly, though)
Enroth > Miller (technically, at least)

I'm sure I'm missing some.

Also the injuries are skyrocketing since the first couple weeks. I mean it totally fucks up fantasy teams but these are definitely more than I recall last year. Maybe I'm just noticing them more because they are all on my fantasy team.

I'm excited for Reimer and possibly Grabovski to rejoin Toronto soon; see if they are still going to be in the race for....a playoff spot...anything else will be a pleasant surprise for leafs fans.

Pittsburgh was playing really well in the later parts of their game vs the habs, but that OT goal was fucking ridiculous. I wasn't particularly hoping for any team but he had his glove covering the puck for at least 3 full seconds, and the ref did not blow the whistle. The ref's defense is that the ref was on the other side and couldn't see it covered....but isn't he supposed to call it if he loses sight of it?

Also fuck Boston go jets.

Jman was removed for being much, much less annoying than popemobile. Jrrrrrrr, certainly not much more a homer than DM is in this discussion, at least brought more to the discussion in a few posts than popemobile did in all his one-liners. He's certainly not the first guilty of heavy biais, at the very least.

Sexiest man in hockey today winning over harsh rival fans:

Jman was removed??? That's fucking stupid. Just because he was annoying doesn't make it okay to ban him from talking here.

Sabres won last night despite playing mostly Rochester Americans. When the game first started, I had to look up our roster because I wasn't sure if Jeanneret was talking about our team or theirs. Caps are in freefall, but we still finally showed something to the home crowd.

Zach Kassian is KILLING it, too.

I hate to be one of "those guys" but the refs most certainly always favor the Pens and it is blatantly obvious every time I see them play. I cannot tell you how many times they blow the whistle ridiculously early for the Pens when the puck is still clearly loose to the entire universe. I've seen multiple times where a team scores against them but the ref has already blown his whistle. I even remember one occurence where a player scored, but the ref was "in the process of blowing his whistle" so they did not count the goal. I've seen the puck not even cross the goal line and count as a goal for the pens. I've heard a whistle, watched the puck go in and count for the Pens.

The refs love the Pens. Period.

Vineon predictably doesn't have the full story on J-man but always glad for him to analyze the situation anyway.

Capitals trying pretty hard to tank at this point by the looks of it DM so I'm not sure how far I'd read into that game. I'm kind of enjoying the struggle there since you'd think if Bruce was in danger of getting fired it'd have happened a long time ago... not really any whispers about him being in the hotseat, but it's pretty obvious most of the high end players on that team are trying to get rid of him (most obviously Ovechkin, see fat fuck comment and general unmotivated play, outside of Backstrom it's pretty representative of the top couple of lines and pairing). The bottom half of that roster is the best its ever been but the top is just as undisciplined and immature as its ever been, will be interesting to see Bruce or his replacement try and deal with them right now. It's interesting to compare them to Pittsburgh as is so often done since the Caps are slightly older for the most part but certainly don't seem to act it very often.

Thanks for using the occasion to lay out the 'full story'.

[22:27] <et> youre a homophobe it should make you shudder
[22:27] <&Vincent> what in hell made you believe I am a homophobe
[22:28] <et> your negative attitude toward me and synre

Not to mention he was immature and contributed absolutely nothing when he posted.

In any case, I don't think Ovie's play is geared towards trying to get Boudreau fired (at least in the beginning). He just seems so unmotivated for whatever reason (HNIC said he seemed to not be having fun and I agree). A coaching change will help, but GMGM definitely should've tried to re-sign Arnott or at least sign a FA with a veteran precence.

Definitely agree on the Flyers netminding. Bryzgalov is definitely going to be the guy due to his salary and term but his inconsistency is brutal this year. Nice to see that Bobrovsky is attempting to make the most of his chances despite going from highly touted young goalie to has been in the stretch of an offseason.

Schneider has turned it on only since Luongo was out injured for a few games. I'm just speculating but I would imagine it's easier to go out, relax, and perform knowing that you'll get another chance in the next game with the real starter out hurt. He's been calmer and played better, it appears, because of that. Now Luongo is healthy again so it'll be interesting to see what happens when either goalie has a bad game in their next start.

Backstrom is really entrenched in the starting job if you ask me. Harding had a run of 4 really good games before getting yanked in his 5th straight start. Backstrom came in and then went on to start the next 4, iirc, with good results. The only reason Harding has started the last 2 games was because Backstrom has been out due to personal reasons. Backstrom will start tonight against Calgary and I'm sure we'll see him in the next game after that unless he really shits the bed or gets hurt. Yeo seems like the kind of coach who will reward the hot hand but I think he knows who he really wants as the starter and it's the guy making starter money.

I would say Schneider has always been pretty solid in terms of nerves, but this is the first time I've seen him kick it into a higher gear in terms of the past four games. The Canucks tried their best to tank in the third period last night, and Schneider just kept them in the game.

Also, on the topic of our goalie controversy, as HNIC tried to hype last night, Luongo was playing well against the LA Kings and NYI before he got injured, so I'm not too worried that he'll completely flop again like last October. He was slated to start against the Sharks, but after the two shut outs, any team would ride their hot goalie at the moment. Best to get Luongo in against the Rickumbus Nashjackets, where the only offense he'll face is their top line.

After the string of four games, I'm wondering if teams such as Tampa, or any other team who is need of a young goalie with a huge upside are getting more interested.

oh wow could you possibly cry more about a little bit of trash talk against the Nucks

unbelievable

If I made 5 posts in a row about the 'cansucks' and '7uongoal' believing the hilarity carries on in every single one of my retarded interventions, I would hope someone would tell me how annoying it has quickly gotten.

But this isn't about the Canucks ; you haven't posted anything remotely intelligent or entertaining that's longer than a tweet in as far as I can remember. Your comments are all over the place but none of them actually adding any substance to the thread. You are spam.

But I notice there's an ignore function so I'll make use of it.

lmao okay have fun with that. maybe when you grow up you'll be able to deal with a little trash talk in sports but until then I guess you use that ignore function, take your ball and go home.

There's a difference between trash talk, and spam. Like I can understand if you're doing it when Luongo lets in some bad goals during a game, but posting out of nowhere (and repeatedly) calling Luongo the typical nicks is pretty lame.

I mean it's absolutely ridiculous that I even have to consider defending myself against people who are upset over a few literally harmless things that I said. Grow a pair or get out, jesus christ.

In other news, my faith in the Hawks has been restored over the past few games. We actually look like we can score goals and Crawford looks competent again. I'll chalk that up the two blowouts as a fluke. Now counting down until the next three game losing streak.

So...how does Paul Maurice still have a job? Come on Canes.

EDIT: Thank you Caps! Looks like they forced the Canes' hand. Paul Maurice has just been fired as well! Awesome. Kirk Muller is the new HC of the Canes. I think he has potential to be a good coach. I'd rather have him than some retread.

EDIT 2: wyshynski Greg Wyshynski
Great to see McPhee and Rutherford taking advantage of the free shipping on Cyber Monday.

PS. Here is my cool strategy. A mod deletes every single post that popemobile makes while nobody replies to anything he says. He will eventually go away. Replying to his posts and giving him infractions only makes him feel like he is successfully trolling everybody even though he is a massive idiot.

I personally don't think they should trade away Schneider, the guy's a platinum back-up to one of the league's more inconsistent goalies. Inconsistent goalies need a solid back-up like Schneider, imo.
