NU CCAT Step 4: Playtesting

I don't think Emboar is a good fit personally, and definitely not that set. I would support a Bulky Choice Band set over the Scarf set, since Magmortar is a better scarfed fire type (actually outspeeds and ko's the other scarf mons).

Though I don't think he is the best Pokemon to start a team, I'm also partially posting this because it would be a GREAT teammate to anyone of these Pokemon.

Metang @ Eviolite
Adamant / Clear Body
EVs: 96 HP / 252 Atk / 160 SDef
- Hone Claws
- Meteor Mash
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake

While it may hold true that Metang is better used as a Pokemon who covers another's weaknesses, he could be a FINE Pokemon to have a team based around as it checks a lot of the threats in the metagame like Tauros, pretty much any grass type, and Swellow while maintaining decent offensive foce.

I stand by my decision

I nominate this set.

Wonderful in TR, wonderful paired up with Cacturne and Slowking, wonderful defense. Just wonderful.

Metang isn't even a top 5 steel type in NU why would we even consider that without calculations and such?

Top 5 steels:

1a) Klinklang
1b) Magneton
3) Bastiodon
4) Probopass
5) Mawile

and tbh the only ones I've seen are klinklang and magneton, the others aren't near as good in this meta because they're either too slow and can be preyed on by fire-types (like magmortar) or just get eaten by sawk.

also been using scarf emboar as a revenge killer / cleaner as of late, works phenomenally against hail, so that's up for consideration

So, for out physical sweeper, we have:

Guts Abuse Swellow
SD Scolipede
4 Attacks/ SD Pinsir
Choice Scarf Emboar

Well, that's a much lower number of sets than I expected. Whatever. I'm sorry that I'm cutting deadlines closer and closer each time, but we have to get this done by the middle of the month (if everything goes according to my plan, the team will be finished by the 20th) due to tier changes in January. Voting will end tomorrow at 11:59 PM EST.

My vote goes out to Swellow

Well, Swellow is pretty much the most dominant physical attacker in the tier and can create all kinds of momentum while sweeping on its own with little to note problem, so I'm going to vote for Swellow.

Scarf Emboar outspeeds most of the unboosted metagame anyways and helps us in a hail dominated meta, and actually has some sort of bulk in tandem with its Speed

I don't see any rule that says we can't vote for ourselves, so my vote goes off to Scarf Emboar

I would vote for Emboar if it's DW ability was out where a set like this is just rape on a stick.
Emboar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 36 Hp / 252 Atk / 220 Spe
Nature: Jolly
- Flare Blitz
- Superpower
- Wild Charge
- Head Smash

With the given EVs he can outspeed the fastest thing he can Zebstrika with out wasting EVs because he can't outspeed base 120. With Reckless Flare Blitz, Wild Charge and Head Smash hit like a truck.

Also Zurich there are things called Ninjask, Electrode, Swellow and Dugtrio that it can't outspeed

I vote for Swellow.

Can Linooe work, though? It's a rather good Pokemon to build around with IMO. As a late-game sweeper.

We have come to the end, and we will have Swellow as our third member.

For member 4, it is not entirely clear what we need. I believe that, in order to support Swellow and Cacturne, we should have a spinner. You don't have to nominate a spinner though. I nominate Bulky Offensive Armaldo

Armaldo (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Battle Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Rapid Spin
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor
- Earthquake

With this set, Armaldo has enough bulk to take even a Swellow's Brave Bird, along with many other hits. Rapid Spin is actually very easy to get off, surprisingly enough. Rock/Ground/Bug provides amazing coverage, and hits the majority of the tier for neutral damage. It also only has 126 Speed, so it can abuse TR to the fullest if Slowking fails to last for all five turns.

My Armaldo analysis said:
-The given set and EVs give Armaldo a massive 383 Attack stat, as well as 354 HP and 236 Defense
-Its Special Defense, however, is somewhat lackluster, at only 197.
-Armaldo is one of the very few viable spinners in NU, and it can usually spin hazards away at least once a game.
-Stone Edge gives Armaldo a very nice STAB, and will be its primary attack
-X-Scissor is Armaldo's weaker, yet more reliable, secondary STAB, being able to slaughter Psychic types
-Since X-Scissor is not always necessary coverage, it can use the moveslot for Rocks
-Earthquake completes the famous EdgeQuake combo, hitting the majority of pokes for at least neutral damage.

So this is essentially gonna be a TR team? I will keep an eye on this team as I will use it. If this is a TR team, I shall scan the list for available candidates.

Parasect@Leftovers
Dry Skin
Sassy
252HP, 252Spdef, 4ATK
0 Speed IV
~X-Scissor
~Spore
~Light Screen/Aromatherapy
~Substitute/Leech Seed/Seed Bomb/Stun Spore

Parasect makes a fantastic complement to Slowking under TR. It's guaranteed to at the worst speed tie with opposing Slowking, and OHKOs OTR Slowking with X-Scissor. With Dry Skin, it eats up Water attacks and always survives 2 +0 or 1 +2 Psychic. In addition, it always survives one attack from Exeggutor barring HP Fire and OHKOs with X-Scissor. Obviously, with TR it becomes even better, but it can survive as an Eggy revenger provided the latter doesn't carry HP Fire. It even has a chance of surviving Scarf Sawk's Stone Edge (takes 88.9% - 104.9%) and can then cripple it with Spore.

Spore is an excellent set-up move, paving the way for a free switch-in or set-up from Slowking, Swellow or Cacturne.

Parasect has many many options for its third and forth moveslots. Light Screen gives the team additional support. In addition, if Parasect sets up Light Screen as Exeggutor switches in, it's guaranteed to survive a Specs HP Fire and can then OHKO with X-Scissor. Among other things, it also helps Parasect to stand up to other threats like Jynx.

Aromatherapy provides clerical coverage. Because spinners are in short supply, Toxic Spikes can rapidly diminish the lifespan of anything not Flying or Poison typed.

Substitute is for Parasect's own use, but protects it from crippling status and almost guarantees it a free Spore or Light Screen/other supportive move should it need it.

Leech Seed gives recovery, and helps to wear down opponents for Swellow and Slowking to clean up.

Stun Spore allows Parasect to spread more status around for Swellow to clean-up. It might prove detrimental with TR, though.

Finally, Seed Bomb gives Parasect another form of STAB coverage. It's not exactly needed, since X-Scissor will hit everything that resists both of Slowking's STABs for neutral or super effective damage. It does give Parasect a harder hit on Golem.

Parasect is pretty good! I like the idea of wearing down the opponent with Leech Seed and TWave before cleaning up with Swellow. Even though I would like to suggest Eviolite Tangela, Parasect is more efficient at his job due to it's ability to destroy OTR Slowking.

I don't think that this is going to be a full-blown TR team; it seems more like if TR is still up and Slowking is down, we have some Pokes to take advantage of it. I always loved the idea of using Armaldo. He's bulky, strong, and is a nice check to Swellow, who rips apart most teams alone. Rapid Spin support is just a plus.

What about a Sunny Day abusing Exeggutor like this.

Exeggutor @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Modest
- Sunny Day
- SolarBeam
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Psyshock

This is a great set to use because it can effectively work in sun or TR. Sunny Day is actually very easy to set up by just coming in on something scared of you then Sweeping with 130 base speed and great SpA. SolarBeam is pretty obvious move, because who doesn't want a 120 BP move with no draw backs. Hidden Power Fire Basicly becomes a Third STAB move in Sunny Day and lets you take down any Steel, Ice and Grass Types in your way. Psyshock is the secondiery STAB and lets you hit pokemon on there weaker physical side.
