Hey Smogon! It's JMPesce here, with my second RMT!
For a while, I've been using my Tremors team (with Excadrill swapped for Landy), and now I've grown tired of using weather to be quite honest! I don't know what it is about weather, but it seems *too* easy to me. And besides, all the teams are cookie cutters anyway (save the few outlandishly original teams I've seen on here).
After dwindling between 989 and 1167 on PO, I've decided to make a new team that doesn't depend on weather to be useful and effective. The truth is, I've been hesitant to post it because I myself think I'm no good at making a team, although I can rate them pretty well. Please, avoid the hate and gimme a rate, I'm not really too good at this :P
Without any further ado: Body Bounce!
Now let's break it down:
Espeon (M) @ Light Clay
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 128 HP / 4 Def / 124 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
My Dual Screening superstar! I love this guy, I usually lead with him unless I'm feeling gutsy. EVs let him outspeed many threats and Taunt from common leads (bar Azelf, but he's less common than he used to be). The spread with 124 EVs in Special attack make him a pretty good attacker as well, rather than just hoarding all of the EVs into HP. He has pretty good bulk HP wise without the full investment, and his current spread allows me to OHKO Conkelldurr on the switch in. Plus Magic Bounce is reason enough to use him because it prevents any status or entry hazards from being used against me, which spells trouble for certain members of my team (I'm looking at you, Volcarona). But I digress. HP Fighting allows me to OHKO and possibly 2HKO Tyranitar and other Dark Or Steel types that attempt to wall me here. However, usually I just set up screens and switch out to another Pokémon, keeping Espeon healthy for late-game sweeping.
Haxorus (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Brick Break
Haxorus, the HAX YOU UP Pokémon. This guy really has an appeal for me over Dragonite in this team and I'll tell you why. The screens help him be able to set up because of his dismal defenses, and after that, he'll be doing a lot of damage! On a +1 CM Metagross (which I would never do because I have coverage, just mentioning it for the sake of mentioning it), Outrage is doing about 90% damage, and with Spikes damage in place, OHKO'd. This beast, under screens, is an amazing Pokémon. His base 97 speed is awkward though, so hopefully on his switch in he gets to +2 at least before a potential threat comes in and *tries* to knock him out. All in all, a beastly set. It has great coverage, and the only x2 weakness to ice (rather than x4 with Nite, Mence, Flygon) is also a very nice touch!
OR
Haxorus (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Rivalry
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Attract
- Dragon Dance
- Dual Chop
- Brick Break
This set is kind of gimmicky, but I wanted to try it to see if it would be of any use. It turns out, that it is quite a set indeed! You switch in on a male Pokémon and Rivalry activates, upping the base power of all of his moves by 25%, which is a pretty nice boost, allowing it to OHKO many threats with a STAB Dual Chop. However, I know you're thinking: "What if there's the ever present FEMALE Jellicent (which you yourself use), or another female Pokémon?" Ah yes, and that is where Attract comes in! You Attract their Pokémon, and while they'r either struggling to attack you, or switching, you get a free turn to set up, which I love a lot! And if they switch in another male Pokémon, (I think, I'm not totally sure), you get the boost again, looking to do a lot more damage, because if this happens sequentially, you have the +1 from DDance, and the +25% from Rivalry, so Haxorus will be smashing people up faster than the Great Khali!
Volcarona (M) @ Leftovers/Focus Sash
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 160 HP / 252 SAtk / 96 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Fiery Dance
- Hidden Power [Ground]
This is, I think, a pretty standard Volcarona. I used to run Sash so I'll get that extra chance to attack before I'm KO'd, but I'm starting to use Leftovers due to his x4 weakness to Rocks, which would break the Sash. I LOVE Volcarona, even more than I loved Heatran last gen! I wish he had Swarm already, because that would make him deadly, even under rain! But I digress, Flame Body is a great ability to have, I love that chance to burn my opponent and lower their attack, which is great for this guy, as his defences are relatively low (in comparison to the bulky metagame), and his typing hinders him a little. +2 Quiver Dances will make life a living hell for anyone who doesn't resist Bug, Fire, or Ground. I love bringing him out on Sun Teams, and proceeding to ravage them with my +2 HP Ground and even Fiery Dance! All in all, a solid as hell Pokémon who deserves his spot on my team. He also covers Haxorus as one of my go-to Ice killers.
Celebi @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 232 HP / 240 SAtk / 36 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover
- Thunder Wave
Ah, my little Tinkerbell! I never liked Celebi last gen, and I even hate it a little this gen, but man is it worth it to have! He'll be doing a lot of damage and is able to stall out opposing Pokémon relatively easily with Recover/T-Wave. His main purpose however is to try and spread paralysis. My team benefits more from burn and poison, but Paralysis makes it easier for my slower members to sweep, which is a welcome addition with Haxorus on my team. In recent fights, I've been thinking of swapping him out; he has too many weaknesses and too little resistances to other rampant types in the metagame, which really hampers his usefulness. However, for the time being, he's really a great little Pokémon, and serves his purpose well. He covers Volcarona from those nasty Bulky Waters that try to end his day. Also acts as a way to OHKO Swamperts and Quagsires that try to ruin my sweep and my day.
Possible Replacement:
Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Protect
Now, this is what I meant as a possible replacement. I loved Blissey, but I stopped using her because of cheapness. Then I discovered that this is Pokémon and cheapness is encouraged in every way, hahaha :P When Eviolite came out, I was very pleased, because Chansey had now surpassed her older sister in terms of usefulness. She would act as a mixed wall, and be able to WishPass with such ease, passing on 352 HP Wishes to any of my Pokémon, Skarmory and Haxorus needing the most help in that department. Toxic stall was always one of my favourite things to do, and with screens up plus Eviolite, Chansey will be able to take quite a few hits from even the strongest fighting type STABs (Conkelldurr, I'm looking' at you!). At any rate, its purpose over Celebi would be to WishPass and spread the valuable poison around. A pretty great Pokémon.
Skarmory (M) @ Shed Shell
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 SDef / 24 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird
- Roost
Now for this Pokémon, you may be thinking why I swapped the traditional defensive EVs and Nature, investing in special versus physical attack. Well the thing is this: Skarmory already has enough physical bulk to withstand quite a few hits, and his special was lacking. Investing in special defence makes him yet another mixed wall, which is efficient when I'm trying to set up Rocks and Roost off damage, or Whirlwind my opponent away and start my sweep over. Brave Bird is powerful STAB for unsuspecting Fighting types who look to OHKO me with Mach Punch, or sap my HP with Drain Punch. Screens plus his amazing bulk makes for a great Pokémon and an even better wall. I love my Skarmory, and besides, he's my main hazards go-to guy!
Jellicent (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 206 HP / 216 SDef / 86 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
The last Pokémon here, but definitely not the least. This has to be my favourite Sprite in all of Black and White, maybe even the history of Pokémon altogether! One of the bulkiest waters I have ever seen, combined with Water Absorb makes for a great switch in on Starmie, Politoed, Vaporeon, and even Fighting types as well. Great defensive typing makes this Pokémon last, a *LONG* time! Scald is traditional STAB over Surf, because I love the 30% chance of burn. Taunt to stop set-ups and other opposing Will-o-Wisps and statuses, and Recover to make her last! She spreads Burn like the plague, so you better check yourself, before you wreck yourself! Great coverage for Celebi and Volcarona: Switch in, taunt, WoW, Scald, since and repeat! Really annoying troll-esque Pokemon!
I'm glad you took the time to read this. This took me a while to type out so my fingers are rather tired. I know this isn't a foolproof team, and I'm looking for any criticism at all that you could find for me. I appreciate any comments on this team greatly! Thanks again!
