Liepard (QC 3/3) (DO NOT GP)

[Overview]

This is Liepard, one of the fastest Pokemon in NU. Though it has speed, however, it is also very frail. The typing is not an ideal one for the NU metagame either, with Fighting types running around with Mach Punch. Though it is fast, its attacking stats are disappointing, a mere base 88 in each stat. It has three very good abilities in Limber, Unburden, and Prankster, but it is not the right Pokemon to use them. Moreover, it is missing crucial moves like Dark Pulse from its pathetic movepool. However, it does have boosting moves in Nasty Plot and Hone Claws, and if you can get Liepard in safely, it will be a monster.

[SET]
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Snarl/Hidden Power Dark
move 3: Encore
move 4: Hidden Power Fighting/Grass Knot
item: Life Orb
ability: Limber
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

[SET COMMENTS]

This is Liepard's best set, as it is able to use Thunder Waves and Psychic-type moves to set up Nasty Plot. In NU, the Dark-Fighting combo is resisted only by Croagunk, who is never used in NU anyways. However, you sacrifice a lot of power by using Dark-Fighting, which forces you to run Snarl as your STAB attack. Encore is there so that you can screw around with Pokemon using moves you are immune to, as well as gain free turns for you to set up. Your Fighting-type move is Hidden Power Fighting.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

If Snarl's low power does not appeal to you, you may choose to drop coverage for the power that Hidden Power Dark, your best STAB, provides. If you use Hidden Power Dark, you should then use Grass Knot for coverage, as in NU Dark-Grass is resisted only by Emboar, Combusken, and Monferno. However, you will sorely miss the coverage Hidden Power Fighting and Snarl give you. For example, Hidden Power Fighting easily OHKOs the Steel-types in NU, while Grass Knot deals pitiful damage. If you still choose to use Hidden Power Dark, be sure to have Fighting-types like Machoke and Gurdurr to get rid of the Steels.

[SET]
name: Fake Out Support
move 1: Fake Out
move 2: Encore
move 3: Sucker Punch
move 4: Return/Thunder Wave
item: Life Orb
ability: Limber
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly

[SET COMMENTS]

Fake Out is the crux of this set. It breaks sashes, scouts for Leftovers, and much more. Encore is your main move. Unlike in the above set, where Encore helps Liepard set up, Encore here is for team support more than anything. With it you can set up many threats like Coil Eelektross, Nasty Plot Pikachu, and Belly Drum Linoone. Sucker Punch is your strongest physical STAB and allows you to get the jump on faster Pokemon. Finally, the last slot is debatable. Return is one of Liepard's best physical attacks and is a good attack in general, but Thunder Wave allows certain Pokemon to sweep.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

If you don't want to rely on Sucker Punch as your STAB move, another more reliable but less powerful option is Night Slash. Also, if your team doesn't need paralysis support, you're more than welcome to use Taunt or Toxic in the last slot. As previously mentioned, Liepard really helps teammates set up. Be sure to take advantage of that.

[Other Options]

Liepard does not have many non-gimmicky options other than the above. A set abusing Normal Gem Unburden Fake Out seems good until you realize that Liepard is already one of the fastest Pokemon in the tier and it doesn't need the Speed boost. Liepard has a lot of support options, and a full support set can certainly be utilized; however, Liepard has almost no bulk.

[Checks and Counters]

Liepard can do two things: sweep and help a teammate sweep. On the Nasty Plot set, if it lacks the Snarl-Hidden Power Fighting combination, then Regice, Probopass, Bastiodon, Emboar, Munchlax, Gurdurr, Machoke, and Lickilicky can take anything Liepard throws at it and either KO back or stall it out. Playing against Dark-Fighting is a little more tricky. Players lacking Eviolite Croagunk (which is practically everyone) can still use Emboar, Machoke, and Gurdurr, and to a lesser extent, Regice and Munchlax. The support set can be annoying with Encore and Thunder Wave, but using Team Preview and avoiding moves that give the opponent free turns is key. Liepard is one of the weaker Pokemon this generation.

[Dream World]

Liepard recieves Prankster from Dream World. Prankster is a good ability on any Pokemon and should be the default ability on any support set.

[Overview]

-Very fast.
-Very frail.
-Three very good abilities: Limber, Unburden, and Prankster.
-Movepool? What movepool?

[SET]
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Snarl/Hidden Power Dark
move 3: Encore
move 4: Hidden Power Fighting/Grass Knot
item: Life Orb
ability: Limber
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

[SET COMMENTS]

-Snarl is your special STAB.
-Encore gives you free turns.
-HP Fighting is your coverage

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

-HP Dark is a stronger STAB.
-Use Grass Knot with HP Dark.
-If you use HP Dark, teammates have to be able to deal with Steels.

[SET]
name: Fake Out Support
move 1: Fake Out
move 2: Encore
move 3: Sucker Punch
move 4: Return/Thunder Wave
item: Life Orb
ability: Limber
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly

[SET COMMENTS]

-Sucker Punch is your strongest physical STAB.
-Fake Out scouts for Leftovers.
-Encore for generally screwing around.
-Return for coverage.
-Thunder Wave is for support.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

-Night Slash is more reliable than Sucker Punch but is less powerful.
-Not really much Liepard can actually do...
-Teammates should benefit from Encore.

[Other Options]

-A VERY gimmicky Assist set can be used.
-A support set can be used.

[Checks and Counters]

-Anything that can live one of its attacks and KO back, which is a lot of Pokemon.
-Steel types are especially good.
-Liepard is not that hard to beat, really.

[Dream World]

-Gets Prankster.
-Liepard is actually good in the support role with Prankster.

On the first set, if Fake Out makes you the fastest mon, why do you need Sucker Punch. Why not run Night Slash to avoid the mind games and complications of Sucker Punch

Nasty Plot is better than Hone Claws IMO. NP, Encore, Snarl and HP Fighting is quite good. HP Dark can be the STAB move instead of Snarl. In that case, use Grass Knot over HP Fight. Encore actually lets it set up. TBH i think this is Liepards best set.

The first set looks pretty bad imo. No point to unburden when you're so fast, fake out is weak and SP is unreliable. No U-Turn or hypnosis either means you can't get momentum either. persian actually outclasses this

This, basically. The Fake Out set isn't that bad - Encore is pretty cool - but Unburden is totally pointless; you want Limber. Protect is kind of weird as well, since Return is probably a superior option.

The suggested Nasty Plot set would is the best set Liepard can run, though:
[SET]
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Snarl / Hidden Power Dark
move 3: Hidden Power Fighting / Grass Knot
move 4: Encore
item: Life Orb
ability: Limber
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

basically everythings been said, but LO>Normal Gem since Limber is really better for it anywho. mebbe Lum, but who would try to put some status on such a frail poke when they can just kill it off?

As I said in the other thread (I think) Snarl is pretty bad. it's a base 55 STAB coming off of an already "modest" 88 base. You need HP dark to deal something that resembles damage to things not called probopass.

Thanks for the feedback. I replaced Fake Out with NP.

Wrong, you should have replaced it with the Hone Claws set...

Breludicolo I still think Snarl should be the #1 option because of better coverage and HP Dark / Grass Knot should be the slashes.

put the Fake Out set back in ffs

and revert the NP set back to what it was with Snarl/HP Fight

The comments skeleton looks very sparse; there will need to be a lot more stuff not listed.

wait wait wait

wasn't the fake out set

Fake Out
Sucker Punch
Encore
Thunder Wave/Return

with Night Slash in AC? I feel like this is better because Sucker Punch is actually stronger and you could use the power...
