The Everything NHL Thread

It does look like they're taking the Coyotes since there's rumblings that the NHL is exploring options for the relocations of the yotes.

Hope they move em to Seattle.

That's fucking retarded. After moving the Thrashers to Winnipeg and calling them the new Jets, they'd move the old Jets to Quebec A YEAR LATER? That's exactly why I'm going to kill Bettman's face.

If anything, they should leave the Coyotes, and find another city to take a team and bring the league to 32 teams, then they can pitch that 4-conference idea again.

I guess no playoffs for us.....now it's time to race to the bottom so that our draft pick can be used sub-optimally again.

Interesting tidbit.

For those who don't read French (read: all of us except Vineon): the important part is:

The Coyotes' young players have been told to start learning French, reports Radio-Canada sports analyst Dany Dubé.
"Certain young players of the club have been told 'Learn French, because we're headed to Québec.' The word around players and management in Phoenix is that the team will be moved to Quebec," claims Dubé.
The team would not however move as early as next season. "The information I have from Glendale is that is not going to happen," says Dubé. "There is a political willpower to keep the team there."

Quick, look surprised!

Phoenix is a good hockey market with some money could be fun. Would like to see Yandle somewhere he's getting the respect he deserves. Even if I basically dropped him in fantasy... Hanzal, that defensemen with the stupid name, some of their secondary forwards also worth building around.

Also why is nbc showing some pointless game instead of caps/sabres wtf

What I think happened is that one player has been told by a member of management that actually doesn't know more than his players what is going to happen to this franchise that he should learn French because he thinks the team will end up in Québec.

Danny Dubé is a trustworthy fellow, I'm fairly sure a player has been told something like that but he himself doesn't believe the Coyotes are moving at the end of the season.

This sure created some huge media buzz here, however.

One way or the other, within a few years, I expect to get the team back.

I think they should really consider moving the current Winnepeg team to Quebec and Phoenix to Winnepeg, since they are the original Jets after all.

Oh and I never thought I'd say this, but Montreal and Toronto please start winning again, pretty please?

I don't read French so Eraddd's translation may not convey the exact meaning, but that sounds like it could have easily been a joke. The same way we tell people to learn Chinese because they're taking over etc, like everyone knows its a joke but there's a scary "what if?" element behind it.

Also, the Bruins are 5-1 in their last 6 all of a sudden after it looked like Ottawa was going to make it a race. The Rolston trade has really worked out, he has points in 7 games in a row now as the team starts to get healthy again.

Oh and Zdeno Chara got honored today before the game for playing 1,000 career games and then had 3 assists. He got this boss silver stick.

Looking forward towards the playoffs I'm really only worried about Detroit and the Rangers. Detroit will likely smoke us if it gets that far, and NYR-BOS will come down to whichever goalie plays better (aka, a toss-up). The Bruins have already proven that they can play with the Penguins, who got less tough with Crosby's return. Chara-Seidenberg will eat that front line up and the top heavy team always falls over in the end. I can't really see any other teams that have a matchup issue against the Bruins, although the playoffs do take nearly as long as the season so something else could develop. I'd still advise people to put money on the Bruins. Not that I gamble, because that's illegal.

Sabres would be a good matchup for the Bruins I think, especially with their recent hot streak could fall into 7th place to face them r1 (Unless Panthers grab 2nd which would be cool hehehe). I'd be scared of them if I were a Bruins fan.

I'd also be scared of the Canucks, who went a mighty 1-0 record vs the Bruins this year :3

That would actually be a sweet matchup considering their recent history of bad blood. I like Buffalo and I'm glad they made my earlier prediction in this thread of them being able to make the playoffs come true. I smell a rivalryyyyyyyy!!!

One of the sedin sisters just got her brain turned to mush, which is over half of their offense. Luongo is too scared to play in Boston. The Bruins destroyed them 3-0 5v5 in that game and Vancouver won't be on the power play for 7 games in a row no matter how much they dive. They are actually one of the teams I'm worried about the least. If they determined the championship with one game like they do in football then I'd be worried about Vancouver, since their entire team is snake-like and can steal a goal out of nothing. In fact, this snakey quality is the only reason why the Canucks were able to make it a series last year by stealing the first two games at home when they had no place on the ice against a clearly superior team. But a 7-game series turns teams who play like the Bruins into a juggernaut (which is why I'm worried about the Rangers)

All I know is the Sabres just put the league on notice. But I am worried about Ehrhoff being out for an extended period of time, our blue line is already suspect. Now that the scoring is showing up a lot of the pressure is off the D and Miller (who is out of his mind recently), but we still can't afford many more injuries.

I hope we get 8th and pull the Rangers in the first round, because that's a winnable series for us. We took care of them at MSG a week ago after a couple SO losses a few weeks before, I love that matchup right now. A series against Boston also would be super exciting (and great for the league, if they knew a fucking thing about promoting it).

Shit, we may just hop Ottawa AND NJ and take 6th so we can beat up on Florida first round. Worst playoff team right there.

Last: I think it'll be a fucking SHAME if the Pens and Flyers end up playing each other first as 4th and 5th seeds. That feels like it should be the ECF.

Really hoping Devils keep the 6th spot so we face the Panthers and not someone else...

God the caps are such fail this year.

though speaking of the awesome sabres...

fuck you wer for giving synre miller and zetterberg for pavelski and clutterbuck GOD DAMMIT

@DM i have to say that even though the sabres won against the Rangers in MSG I would rather face any of the eastern conference teams (except the Penguins assuming Letang is back for the playoffs) before them. They have Stanley Cup written all over them, all four of their lines are scary both physically and on the score sheet (their 3rd/4th really come through when it matters). No disrespect to Miller but he's really got jack shit on the king.

A sabres fan would definitely rather play the Bruins (and obviously the Panthers). :)

EDIT: Also the Bruins will not beat the Rangers nor the Penguins. The Penguins 3rd line has more scoring potential than the Bruins 1st, and as of late Fleury > Thomas but that could easily change. The Rangers just outclass them.

heysup I think you greatly underestimate the Bruins' scoring. The Penguins are the only team in the entire league that has scored more goals than the Bruins, and they only took that title recently. Just because they don't have some elite guaranteed 40 goal scorer doesn't mean they can't score. I don't know of any other way to measure "scoring potential" other than team goals scored. If Pitt gets home ice or if Fleury stands on his head they'll have a good shot but I don't think the Bruins will lose 4 out of 7 games to them. This might change over the course of the month though depending on injuries etc

With that said, I'm still hoping the Bruins don't have to face the Penguins. The streaking team is always the one you want to avoid in the playoffs, and that is def the 'guins

Also, the Gauthier move was a long time coming. He almost made Milbury look competent as a GM.

Gauthier finaly relieved of his duties; a step in the right direction for les canadiens. I'm really curious to see who will be the next GM. At this point it looks like Julien Brisebois or Francois Giguere would seem like a safe bet but man would it be sweet having Pierre McGuire as the GM. Unfortunately I dont think he speaks french...
