Well as the title states, this is my first shot at making a proper OU team. I've always been into WiFi battling but have never been able to take part due to my DS not being compatible with my Router (I know how to fix it but Dad won't let me which is fair enough)
But now that I have decided to get into Pokemon Online I decided to construct a team using my knowledge that I have built up from seeing various YouTube video's and my own experience.
Anyways here goes, and sorry if I forget anything.
Ideas before I built it:
Before I started on my team I went onto Pokemon Online and had a look at what some other people were using and what seemed to be going on so that I could think of some effective counters. It was then that I saw somebody making full use of Vaporeon with Hydration ability in the rain. OMG it was awesome, he wiped the floor with a Dragonite and several other Pokemon with that Vaporeon.
I also decided that I wanted to use Starmie because I have loved it ever since I used to use it to sweep the battle tower in genIV all day long.
These two ideas meant that I would benefit from rain (obviously) so I decided to use a Politoed also.
So with three Pokemon already decided I proceeded to build the team.
Drizzle it up!
WetMySelf (Politoed) (M) /Modest
Ability: Drizzle
@Choice Scarf
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- HP (Electric)
- Hypnosis
Ok so Politoed was a pretty obvious choice as I wanted to make full use of what I had planned for Vaporeon but I tried to make it a little different yet the same as what I have already seen being used. What I mean by this is that I wanted it to seem like a Politoed that people think that they can recognise but I stuck a couple of odd moves in there for the element of surprise. Hydro Pump and Ice Beam give Politoed some great coverage to open with and they really pack a punch with the nature+EV combo. But then using HP Electric is interesting because I mainly see grass being used and if people are thinking that I have grass then using the electric may catch them out. Same goes for the hypnosis. Politoed isn't exactly the strongest Pokemon in OU so if I can use the max speed+scarf to get a quick Hypnosis in there out of the blue then that could really work to my advantage.
my BFFL
Mpora (Starmie) (n) /Modest
Ability: Natural Cure
@Expert Belt
EV's: 4 SDef / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Thunder
This is pretty much a standard Starmie and I love to use it. I have one every time I play through Leaf Green and it destroys anything that I come up against which made me think that it should be pretty good in competitive play right? Well the Surf gets a boost from the rain and the usual Thunderbolt is replaced by Thunder to take advantage of the rain again. Ice Beam and Psychic give Starmie super duper coverage and it proceeds to whoop butt. The only thing that I got a bit stuck on with this set was the item. I could have had choice specs but I like this set for the way that it can hit SOOOO MANY Pokemon really hard so I didn't want to be switching it about all the time. Then Life Orb is an option but I wasn't sure if I really wanted the residual damage when I don't carry rapid spin. But I guess thats where posting this comes in. I'd love to hear suggestions.
A bit of rain never hurt anyone
CatFish (Vaporeon) (M) /Calm
Ability: Hydration
@Leftovers
EV's: 4 SDef / 252 Def / 252 HP
- Rest
- Toxic
- Scald
- Shadow Ball
Ok so I was inspired to use this in the rain after I saw someone use a Vaporeon with Rest, Toxic and Scald combined with the Hydration+Rain combo. It was awesome seeing him Toxic stall and scald out a Blissey and a Dragonite and something else which I can't remember. The only thing is with this set is the Leftovers. Is it really necessary to have Leftovers when you can just rest it all back and wake up instantly? Again, some suggestions would be handy dandy. Only thing I see destroying this is the risk of some special attackers out speeding it. I filled it in with a Shadow Ball because I didn't know what else to have and after looking at what I could cover with the rest of my team I thought a Shadow Ball might come in useful where scald might not. I was thinking about Yawn to force switches too but eventually decided against it as I had Toxic already.
Dancing Queen
TwinkleToes (Machamp) (M) /Adamant
Ability: No Guard
@Lum Berry
EV's: 4 Def / 252 HP / 252 Atk
- Dynamic Punch
- Swagger
- Mega Kick
- Payback
This set was mainly added to my team because of the amount of bloomin' pink blobs I was seeing before I made this team. So yeah this Pokemon is made to pummel pink blobs. It's also a pretty predictable set in the same sense as my Politoed although it has the surprise of Swagger and Mega Kick! Swagger is there because I know that whenever a special sweeper gets hit by swagger they are face palming and also, being able to say TwinkleToes got Swagger is awesome. Mega kick is there because it takes advantage of No Guard while being able to hit most Pokemon Neutrally and very hard. Payback is there for some further coverage and also takes advantage of Machamp's poor speed stat. This Machamp is one to watch out for methinks! Also I needed a pokemon that wasn't taking advantage of the rain so that my team doesn't suck when Politoed is dead and the opponent can get sun or sand up.
The Green Dragon
MrPointyHead (Dragonite) (F) /Adamant
Ability: Multiscale
@Life Orb
EV's: 152 HP / 104 SDef / 252 Atk
- Outrage
- Hurricane
- Roost
- Earthquake
I switched the pokemon in this slot around quite a lot before I finally fell upon this. For one I love Dragonite it's just such a cool pokemon and it seems to be used a bit more in genV after it was outclassed by Salemance in genIV. No idea why but heck I love it anyway. My main requirement from this Dragonite is to cover electric types while still having something that is good in the rain. Dragonite is an Earthquaker who can learn Hurricane which means I have two highly powerful moves off the bat. And Outrage for when I want to deliver some big hits and have something to switch out to. Roost is there to make up for the possibility of Stealth Rocks and also to make up for Life Orb Damage. I think that this Dragonite should be pretty good and should make up for having three water types on my team.
Theif
Brains (Jirachi) (n) /Sassy
Ability: Serene Grace
@Leftovers
EV's: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
- Wish
- Iron Head
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder
I named this slot theif because it's actually a set that Delko posted in his Annual Rain team. I figured seeing as he said he has used the team enough now and seeing as he posted it on an open forum then it's cool to use it right? We anyways, full credit to him. I used this because I was puzzling over what my team needed for ages as I felt pretty set with my first five slots. When I saw this Jirachi I decided that it just perfectly filled the hole in my team. It gets rocks up, completes my defences, can wish up for my team and it benefits from the rain a little. To be honest that was enough for me to have it on my team. Hope it's ok to use it. Here is a link to the team I got it from.
