The Outsiders: An OU RMT
(also, book spoilers)

This RMT is made and formed around two of my favorite things in this world; the book The Outsiders; and the sheer power of CB Staraptor. CBraptor rips holes in teams that aren't prepared for it, and even some holes in teams that ARE prepared for it. The supporting members of the team all serve a specific purpose, be it either hazard support or forming an offensive core that finds itself hard to be walled while supporting the other members.

Team Building Process
398.gif

It all started with this little birdy right here; CBraptor. As already stated, he tears holes in teams that don't have something that can wall it (which is not a large portion of Pokemon AT ALL) or something that can outspeed and kill it.

The next choice here was Scarf Rotom-C. VoltTurn hurts Staraptor quite a bit; Volt Switch from an opposing Rotom-W doing a very scary chunk of damage into Scizor, who Bullet Punches to attempt the kill. This Rotom-C stops most Volt-Turn chains dead. Switch him in on a Rotom-W, reading a Volt Switch into Scizor, resist the hit, and HP Fireing when they try to outspeed.

After this, I knew I needed some hazard support, to help with Staraptor's ripping through teams. Scolipede was the choice here for a number of reasons; the first and foremost being his speed. Base 112 Speed outspeeds most of the leads in this meta, allowing it to set up a layer of Spikes or two before taking a fall. It also has a very respectable 90 base attack, which it can use to fire off Megahorns or Earthquakes to try and kill off its foes.

My next pick here was Alakazam, because my team couldn't really rouch SubDisable Gengar. Shadow Ball + Psychic can take out the little bastard so he doesn't wall my team to oblivion. He also serves as a very potent revenge killer with Focus Sash, outspeeding most foes for the first hit and killing with a second after eating a powerful attack with the Sash.

I felt, at this point, that my team was much too offensive. I needed some kind of defense or my team was going to get ripped apart by teams faster than my own. Wish support also seemed like a necessity with the ghetto VoltTurn mechanic of Staraptor and Rotom-C, so Vaporeon was the start of my defensive core. He gives me Wish support and helps to stall out a Pokemon coming in on Toxic Spikes with Wish+Protect.

Heatran was the last poke to make it on the team. He's the Specially Defensive wall, being one of the best in the tier, bar maybe Jirachi, that annoying little fucker. He eats Draco Meteors which my team can't take too well, and causes hurt back with the unorthodox choice that works surprisingly well here, HP Ice. The finished product is one that may look a bit odd, but works in the end.

The Team

Darrel (Staraptor) (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Reckless
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- Double-Edge

"Darry's gone through a lot in his twenty years, grown up too fast." - Ponyboy

The star (no pun intended) of the show. Reckless, fast, and with enough power to hit like a runaway train, CB Staraptor is the sole reason why this team exists. He can rip through teams lacking a dedicated physical wall, and in some cases, teams that do. CB Close Combat always 2HKOs Skarmory after SR damage, which is an incredible feat for a physically-based attacker. The neutral coverage this set gets is also pretty incredible; Double Edge + CC + Brave Bird getting perfect neutral coverage. Staraptor is a force to be reckoned with, and every team should be prepared to deal with him. He's named for Darrel because Darrel was very protective of his brothers; acting as a father figure where they had no father around to act as such. His strength in the novel is what caused me to name Staraptor after him.

Sodapop (Rotom-C) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Leaf Storm
- Signal Beam

"I mean, I can't take sides. It'd be a lot easier if I could, but I see both sides." - Sodapop

Rotom-C is THE anti-VoltTurn Pokemon. He OHKOs Rotom-W with Leaf Storm, outspeeds and OHKOs Scizor outside of the Rain with HP Fire. Landorus has a very low chance of survival coming in on a Leaf Storm if Rocks are up. And Celebi, the other common UTurner, dies to the odd choice out here, Signal Beam. Volt Switch is for the more ironic side of life; being able to form a VoltTurn core of its own with Staraptor. He puts in a ton of work on this team, being the MVP in some matches. Sodapop was the middle child of Curtis brothers, the oldest being Darrel and the youngest being Ponyboy. He was the glue that generally held them together, serving the same purpose that Rotom-C does on this team.

Dallas (Scolipede) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Swarm
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes
- Earthquake
- Megahorn

"We gotta win that fight tonight. We gotta get even with the Socs. For Johnny." - Dally

Dallas is my Spikes/Toxic Spikes user, setting up the hazards for my opponents to fall into while any of the offensive members of my team start their assault on the opponent. Both Spikes variants are here in case there's a grounded Poison type such as Tentacruel to absorb the Toxic Spikes, but other than that Toxic Spikes is my go-to. The attacks are here to hit some pokes trying to switch in and set up. 90 base attack, maxed out, does more damage than one would think coming from a Spikes set-up poke. He's named after Dallas because he's always helping out the rest of the Greasers, being there for them and helping them with what they need, such as saving Ponyboy and Johnny (to no avail, sadly) from the fire in the church, at great risk to himself.

OpkXb.jpg

Ponyboy (Alakazam) (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home." - Ponyboy

Ponyboy is a monster. He's one of the best revenge killers in the game, more often that not he WILL kill one Poke. Unless you have a Special wall waiting in the wings, you're losing at least one poke with the beautiful neutral coverage this set gets, AND the almost as good super-effective coverage. He also serves as my check to SubDisable Gengar, outspeeding and getting the kill past his Disable bullshit. Ponyboy is named for Alakazam because he's almost always at the front and center of battles, being the main character (as Ponyboy was in the book). He also usually only comes out when a poke dies, only fighting when he has to. This was one of Ponyboy's main points as a character, that he only fought when he NEEDED to.

w9LkJ.jpg

Johnny (Vaporeon) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Protect

"Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold..." - Johnny

Johnny fills a couple of necessary roles on this team; taking physical hits and giving Wish support to the team. He gives out MASSIVE 232 HP Wishes, able to refill any of my team's health substantially. Not only that, with attacks coming off a very respectable 110 base Special Attack, Johnny still does a stellar amount of damage for a wall. Vaporeon was named for Johnny because of one of the key points in Johnny's character; in the book, he was abused. Even through this abuse though, he kept on going, past being the puppy that was always kicked around. His last act, saving the children from the burning church, was a valiant way to die. Johnny was always there for his friends, which is what Vaporeon does for this team.

Two-Bit (Heatran) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SDef / 8 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Hidden Power [Ice]

"We're gonna stomp the Socs' guts, that's what." - Two-Bit

Two-Bit is a useful little bastard. He can eat Draco Meteors for days on end, and do a ton of damage back with HP Ice. SR + Roar is basically essential for any team, to deal incoming damage along with Dallas' Spikes, and Roar stops set-up sweepers cold. Two-Bit, in a word, was the smartass of the Greasers. Just like Heatran, he pissed a ton of people off, but he also charmed a lot of others with his charismatic ways. You either love Heatran or you hate him; the same way you either hate Two-Bit or you love him.

Closing Thoughts + Importable

So that's that, then. Threatlist will be coming soon, whenever I can be damned to write it out. Leave a comment, hopefully a Luvdisc c: and do what you must to fix the team.

Interesting team to say the least, and my favorite part is the CB Staraptor. That thing is insanely underrated. Anyways, a small change. I'd recommend changing Signal Beam on Rotom-C to Trick so that you can cripple walls, and because bug isn't really useful on him as he already has hp ice for grass types.
Yeah, not much to say without changing too much. It's quite an original team and I like it.
If you could put in a threats list maybe I could rate again later. Pretty solid team though

Yeah your team is really original, I dont want to make it generic in any way but a cool change could be Charge Beam > Hidden Power on Alakazam. At +1 everything that isnt a fat white blob will be demolished by the sheer power of Alakazams Great coverage and a STAB that is actually good in todays Meta

I agree with the posts above me: its original. Putting trick on Rotom over signal beam will really cripple walls. You could also put toxic over Vaporeons scald or ice beam just in case scolipede cant get the toxic spikes up or they get absorbed, but that is my personal preference. Overall a solid looking team

Everyone loves CBraptor. c:

But as fun as crippling walls is, Signal Beam serves a specific purpose in killing Celebi. If I can see an obvious wall switch in, I can Volt Switch out into Staraptor or whatever can kill it and rip it a new one.

Honestly, this was what was originally there, but I wanted to test new options for killing things like Dragons, Gliscor and Landorus (which die to Psychic anyways). The three move coverage Alakazam gets is matched by very few, maybe Genesect or Nidoking. The fourth move is filler. I've had success with a number of moves in that slot.

See above for Signal Beam shenanigans. And I'm quite liking Ice Beam on Vaporeon. It has saved my ass from quite a few Dragonites after Multiscale is down (and Scald is pretty necessary on a Vaporeon), but I'll test Toxic in those slots.

Thanks for the opinions errybody :happybrain:
