The Rejected and Forsaken

What should I use for my 6th Pokemon?

Hello! My name is Bryan and I've been lurking for a long time. I've been learning as best as I can to try and make a good team before B2W2 is released. If I get enough wins, I plan on RNG'ing this team and participate in a end of summer tournament held where I live to try and take first place. I've been a competitive battler since the start of Gen IV. My RMT doesn't have any frills or anything humorous but Hopefully you can make sense of what my team is and I'll try to respond well to your criticisms!

Stats are depicted as followed:
[HP / Attack / Defense / Special Attack / Special Defense / Speed]

Lead / Physical Sweeper
darmanitan_animated_sprite_by_devinwarriors-d38jcrv.gif

Daruma (Darmanitan) @ Choice Band
Nature: Jolly | Ability: Sheer Force
EV Spread: [6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe]
Moveset:
[Flare Blitz / Earthquake / Stone Edge / U-Turn]

Comments: I seem to have trouble against Pokemon like Gliscor, Swampert, and Jellicent that can take my attacks easily. However I usually anticipate these switches and proceed to use an attack that wipes the Pokemon or do some major damage. Darmanitan is my main source of punishment dealing, and is often overlooked, and overshadowed by other fire types like Heatran and Volcarona. I've also tried having Heatran instead of Darmanitan because of the amount of Willo-Wispers in this meta. I just don't like how Darmanitan is a little slow, but I rely a little bit on Slowbro's Thunderwave to make sure Darmanitan always goes first.

Alternate Lead / Special Sweeper / Revenge Killer
th_tumblr_luq8zhmlhW1r3djteo1_100.gif

Bolt (Jolteon) @ Choice Specs
Nature: Timid | Ability: Volt Switch
EV Spread: [6 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spe]
IV Spread: [31 / 30 / 30 / 31 / 31 / 31]
Moveset:
[Thunder / Volt Switch / Shadow Ball / Hidden Power Ice]

Comments: Jolteon is my main special attacking sweeper. I opted for Thunder over Thunderbolt because of the ever prevalent amount of Rain Dance teams. Since Jolteon is arguably the fastest unboosted Pokemon in OU, I use Jolteon as my revenge killer. If I feel Darmanitan isn't good enough as a lead during team preview, I use Jolteon instead.*

Tank / Set-Up Sweeper
Snorlax_BW.gif

Munchkin (Snorlax) @ Leftovers
Nature: Careful | Ability: Thick Fat
EV Spread: [140 HP / 166 Atk / 136 Def / 68 SDef]
Stats @ Level 100: [496 / 297 / 200 / x / 300 / 96]
Moveset:
[Curse / Fire Punch / Earthquake / Pursuit]

Comments: I included Stat values because I wanted specific stats. With 496 HP, I get maximum leftover recovery @ 31 HP per turn. The only drawback to this is Snorlax *also get maximum hazard damage. Curse gets snorlax's defense to a whopping 300. Pursuit is for Pokemon that try to switch out after doing minimal damage to Snorlax. I chose thick fat over immunity because of Sunny day teams with Fire type boosted moves. Fire Punch to take out Ferrothorn, and Earthquake for maximum coverage. I chose to not have a STAB move based on Snorlax already having boosted attack. And Normal attacks have two resistances and one immunity, so I felt that it's not really needed. I could also opt out Rest and replace my held item to lum berry, since I've ran into Sigilyph that just shifts burn on Snorlax, or Pokemon that uses Toxic to limit Sborlax's staying power.

Set-Up Sweeper / Status Blocker
espeon.gif

Sunshine (Espeon) @ Leftovers
Nature: Timid | Ability: Magic Bounce
EV Spread: [68 HP / 90 SAtk / 100 SDef / 252 Spe]
IV Spread: [31 / 30 / 30 / 30 / 30 / 30]
Moveset:
[Calm Mind / Psyshock / Hidden Power Fighting / Shadow Ball]

Comments: The odd EV spread compliments this calm mind set. I opted for HP Fighting for the expected switch in to common counters such as Tyranitar. I chose Psyshock over stored power because Stored power needs to have +2CM in order to do more damage than psychic / Psyshock. Espeon also helps prevent expected Hazard damage such as Stealth Rock. I rely on Espeon as my main Pokemon to prevent status effects and hazards. It's not effective, but I'm known to always switch a lot and if hazards are up, it really cripples my team.

Physical Tank / Special Tank
080.gif

UMadBro (Slowbro) @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold | Ability: Regenerator
EV Spread: [148 HP / 176 Def / 186 SDef]
Moveset:
[Scald / Ice Beam / Flamethrower / Thunderwave]

Comments: Slowbro is my main tank that soaks up damage. It compliments Snorlax's weakness, and allows to spread paralysis / burn (Scald) to cripple opposing sweepers. Slowbro is great at soaking up Fighting type attacks which is prevalent in Gen V OU. I also feel that I don't have as many ice type attacking moves also. I still have problems with Tyranitar since I've seen so many people run specially defensive set, and just either uses STAB crunch, or predict the switch out with Pursuit. I can't always rely on Scald to get the Burn Hax. I have also thought about getting rid of one move for Slack off, *but I also felt its a little redundant to have because of regenerator and leftovers.

Pokemon #6: TBD
I still sort of need a sixth Pokemon. I've tried out different types but none seem to fit well of the synergy of my team. I would like some suggestions as I have already tried: conkeldurr, Dragonite, Ferrothorn, Forretress, Lucario, and Gliscor.

Overall Comments:
I've tried this team out, and so far I've been very successful and started winning many battles with this team and actually laddered an peaked on PO at 1406 Points. I started to notice a decline in my winnings. I started to see that my team is taunt-bait and relies heavily on Espeon bouncing back hazards and status. If Espeon is taken out early, I'm always hard-pressed to win the match. I've tried Ferrothorn, and Forretress as my 6th Pokemon, but they always are rendered useless by taunt. I also noticed that i switch out frequently and i dont have any Rapid Spinners to take out hazards that eventually destroy my team. Are there any suggestions for my 6th slot? I had a couple ideas, such as standard dance multi scale dnite, Banded Ferrothorn, Rapid Spin Forretress, and Justified Lucario. Also, Tyranitar usually always wrecks my team. Sandstorm in general almost always takes this team down. I've also used some fighting types, but I've also encountered running into celebi on sandstorm teams that just obliterate me. I also don't have any priority moves on any of my pokemon I've also tried using conkeldurr, but Conkeldurr is no very predictable. I dont want to scrap this team because I've had a lot of wins with it, but is there Any changes I should make? Any help is appreciated!*

When I see a team w/ potential, I can't help but comment. :)

For your final spot, you could try:
Banded Scizor
248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit / Quick Attack

Having Scizor works great with your team, as it gives you a huge chance to revenge kill Latios, Latias, opposing Espeon, Alakazam and more. It also has the chance to run the VoltTurn strategy with Jolteon. Speaking of Jolteon, change Thunder to Thunderbolt for more assurance if you decide to go with Scizor, as suggested. Scizor are a pain under rain and, when paired with the ever powerful ChoiceSpec Jolten, punch holes through teams as they continually VoltSwitch & U-turn in and out, leaving the opponent no room to predict your next move.

IMO ferrothorn would be the best 6th, its a good hazard layer (Which you lack) and has good synergy with the rest of your team

Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Power Whip
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Protect

I might actually go with Scizor. It has dark type resistances and J Amin need of a priority user too. Are you thinking I should go for a Choice Band set? Or something else? I feel that Having three choice users might be overdoing it. :/ I don't have many Pokemon that can safely switch in.

I tried a similar set; With the moves Power Whip / Gyro Ball / Leech Seed / Explosion, but the set just seems too predictable. I've also tried the Chouce Band set and ive had more success with that.

Thank you all for helping me out!

If your not using it with hazards there isn't much of a point to it

Personally I don't like setting up hazards other than stealth rock. I've tried many different versions of Ferrothorn. I'd always run into opposing Espeon or Xatu. I like Ferrothorn, but I always see it on teams and it just doesn't work well with mine.

Hey there. Nice team.

I feel like Choice Scarf Landorus causes your team problems, in conjuction to Stealth Rock. It outspeeds your whole team and OHKOs your Jolteon and Darmanitan with Earthquake. Slowbro and Espeon both don't like getting struck by U-Turn either. Snorlax is 2HKO'd by Earthquake in Sandstorm, I believe. Stealth Rock also hurts your team, as it really hurts Darmanitan, as well as other teammates who switch-in often (Jolteon, Slowbro). To fix this problem, I would recommend to use a Physically Defensive Forretress (see set below) as your 6th team member. Forretress provides a counter to Landorus, while providing both Rapid Spin support AND Stealth Rock. Thanks to its massive physical bulk, Landorus can't do much to it. Stealth Rock would be a very nice addition to your team, as it lets you deal with Volcarona and Dragonite with more ease, instead of always allowing them to switch-in at full health. Rapid Spin helps your team get rid of hazards, which prevents Darmanitan from losing 25% of its health each time it switches in. Volt Switch is a move that lets Forretress avoid getting trapped by Magnezone. It also can keep your VoltTurn cycles going, and provide your team with some momentum. Gyro Ball hits Dragon Dancers really hard, letting you deal with them with more ease. Finally, I'd recommend a Choice Scarf Darmanitan instead of your current Choice Band Darmanitan. It lets you scout with more ease, and lets you revenge-kill faster threats. 140 Base Attack is more than enough to dent holes in teams, and a Scarf lets you outspeed and kill opponents. Since your team lacks a Scarf user, having one would be of great utility. Cool team, and good luck!

205.gif

Forretress @ Leftovers | Sturdy
Relaxed Nature | 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Rapid Spin | Stealth Rock | Gyro Ball | Volt Switch

Note: Remember to use 0 Speed IVs to maximize Gyro Ball's power.

555.gif

Darmanitan @ Choice Scarf | Sheer Force
Adamant Nature | 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Flare Blitz | Earthquake | U-Turn | Superpower

Summary of Changes:

6th team member ---> Physically Defensive Forretress
Choice Band Darmanitan ---> Choice Scarf Darmanitan

your team needs a steel type so it doesn't get wrecked. Since you like using a team that is about raw power and no hazards. Escavalier would be helpful for this. This bad boy has the bulk you would need and has powerful attacks to work with. Here is what I would give it for this team.

Escavalier@ Leftovers
Trait: swarm/shell armor
nature: sassy/ impish
Evs: 248 hp, 8 atk, 252 spdef/def
Moves:
Megahorn
gyroball
Protect/toxic
reversal/rock smash

This is a modified version of the defensive variant in the smogon strategy dex. (you would have to look in the UU section.) Megahorn and gyroball are dual stab. protect gives it a way to get some leftovers recovery while toxic will stop set ups if the player is more conservative. reversal would help later though rock smash is a viable option in its place.

I just tried your suggestions and solar I am 4 - 0. Darmanitan actually survives a little longer. With volt switch on Ferrothorn, I can actually do something when I'm under tuant and do a little damage as I switch out. I had a little trouble with Tyranitar as the ones I've been facing know fire blast, but Darmanitan can outspeed all versions and revenge kill with Superpower. I might get rid of superpower for Stone edge. So far I like using Forretress.
But I have a question, does Dragonite get hit by spikes? I'm thinking of replacing for stealth rock. Thanks for helping me out

I might try escavalier. I just don't like how it doesn't have that good enough coverage. I think I need more of a utility, but it doesn't hurt to try this in non rated battles!

No, Dragonite doesn't get hit by Spikes. I actually meant Stealth Rock, so sorry about that :<

How has your team fared against dragon types typically? You don't seem to have a steel type and only one ice move. I like the idea of Scizor. His bullet punch will be a great dragon revenge killer.
