OMG its usable!: Blaziken disscussion

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/257.shtml

I did not think the analysis gives Blaziken enough credit for what it can do so...
What it was:
It was never that good, but it was a nice alternitive for fun games if you wanted to annoy OUs with BL "nonsence". It never had much chance for any other use.

But now: Base 120 Attack with Brave Bird and Flare Blitz. Nuf said.

Base Stats: HP:80 Atk:120 (:D) Def: 70 SpAtk: 110 SpDef: 70 Sp:80
Notable moves:
Flare Blitz
Brave Bird
Fire Punch
Stone Edge
Shadow Claw
Agility
Swords Dance
Poisen Jab
Fire Blast
Return
Brick Break
Earthquake
Quick Attack
Hidden Power
Impressive. It only lacks Close Combat...

Well, this thing pwns everything slower then it, but is not the fastest creature around, which makes it a Scarfer if I ever saw one.

Flare Blitz
Brave Bird
Brick Break
Stone Edge/Rock Slide

This thing is what most people would use on Blaziken because of its forgetable speed and Monstorous offensive stats. It eats Weaviles for Breakfast and Gengars for Lunch. It snacks on Metagrosses and dines on Salamence. It kills so many OUs it isn't funny. BB is for T-Tars who come to ruin your fun. It is resistant to Pursuit but weak to SR. Rhyperior pwns this so hard. It has trouble with other Scarfers.

Agillity/SD
Flare Blitz
Brave Bird
Stone Edge/Baton Pass/Brick Break/Rock Slide

It is like Agillgross with more power and less durability. Baton Pass is in there so you can pass the Agillities to something when you are low on health (or up against Rhyperior). Stone Edge can be replaced by Rock Slide for Flinch and 90 percent hit chance which is most likely the better option, but I put Stone Edge in as an example. After one Agillity, this thing can KO Weavile and T-Tar with Brick Break. Swords Dance is another option for all out power, but it is a bit to slow to see alot of use.

Other Options: Hidden Power Ice, Grass, and Water are all good options for killing off Rhyperior, Swampert, and the Dragons, but in most cases, his other attacks will do more damage. Fire Blast helps with Bronzong and Skarm, and Life Orb for that extra punch, but all the recoil adds up. Shadow Claw can be used for Dusk2.0 and Gengar but Flare Blitz does just as much. It is up to you whether you want Shadow Claw or not. Brick Break is almost mandatory on all sets for T-Tar. CBFlare Blitz hurts, but Blaziken would need speed boosts and Paralyisis support for it to be fast enough to live.

Opinion: This guy is a threat. Pursuit dosen't scare it and it can hit hard even without Choice Band and Swords Dance, but it is slower so Choice Scarf is probably the best. This guy can even put a dent in its...

Counters: Swampert and friend kill non-HP Grass models with ease but are hurt by Brave Bird. Wheezing can Haze away your boosts but can't burn do to Blaziken being part fire and is hurt by Flare Blitz. Rhyperior kills the non-HPing ones, and Starmie kills the slower ones.

I will use him on Competitor definitly and he makes OU with ease. How do you like it?

I thought Blaziken was Fighting/Fire, so wouldn't SR be neutral?

One Word Infernape

Just like Salamence/Dragonite, Swampert/Gastrodoon/Quasquire and Flygon/Garchomp.Sure you can use it Ou but why when something does pretty much what it does but better.

Yeah, but Blaziken does have some stuff he can pull off that Nape can't. I'm not contradicting you, I'm just saying that he can pull of Brave Bird and Baton Pass which has got to count for something.

Plus he's fun to use.

Also I liked the little dinner table alliterations.

Not bad, and a good job overall, but I feel Infernape ouclasses Kung Fu Fire Chicken. Better speed, viable as both Sp. Attacker and Physical. Also, Close Combat is better than Brave Bird, because Ape has Fighting stab with it, and doesn't lose HP, but his defenses. Nice thoiugh, but yeah, there are several threats to him, especially with faster and faster counters these days... (Gyarados will own him as well!)

It was never really usable to begin with because of it's terrible speed stat. Even with Choice Scarf that hasn't changed much. Blaziken can't really do a thing to Rhyperior / Swampert / Starmie because the fat chicken lacks Grass Knot and a usable Special Movepool. Brave Bird does seem more like a waste of a moveslot, as Flamethrower already covers Heracross, your better off with Thunderpunch. Don't expect Blaziken to outspeed Gengar / Metagross / Weavile because they all can and will most likely carry Choice Scarf.

He doesn't get much in the way of a special movepool, and that hurts with his base 110 Sp. Atk, even beating Starmie, but that's not important.

He only gets the usual Flamthrower/Fire Blast/Overheat/Hidden Power and Focus Blast that everyone else does, so I can't see him use any sort of Special attacking moveset unless you want HP Grass to deal with Rhyperior and other rocks that don't feel a thing from Brick Break.

Brave Bird is pointless. What are you hitting with Brave Bird that you aren't with a fire move? Machamp?

You'd best play to Blaziken's strengths: Baton Passing (though it's not terribly good at it), Reversaling, etc...

Bulky waters, mostly.

I like these sets, but they're not the kind of thing I'd use, honestly. Very well written thread though.

Brave Bird puts a dent in Fire resisters and Pokemon that resist both are hit by Brick Break. (C'mon Nintendo give this thing Close Combat)

Well it does have Sky Uppercut (not as good as Close Combat but a hella lot better then Brick Break). Another physical option fire move if you don't want to use Flare Blitz is it's signature move: Blaze kick. Who needs Fire Punch when you've got Blaze kick?

Agility is the answer to getting around that horrible speed. Shoot, Agility + Focus Sash allows you to get in that reversal without having to rely on an Endure or Substitute. Plus, Agility boost is better then salac boost.

Blaziken's high offense is appealing, but it does lack the speed that Infernape has, and Infernape basically has the same movepool as Blaziken, only with additional useful moves that adds up to its usefulness. So yea, Infernape for DP; ditto with everyone supporting the ape =d

Its stats make for a decent Choice Band/Scarf user and it can scare things off but good luck getting it in. You will need pretty good prediction skills to bring in something with few decent resistances.
