A lot of Gyarados of late are equipped with Taunt and Dragon Dance, thinking that just because they're a bulky water means that they can afford a hit or two while setting up a sweep. Gyarados is easily one of the more popular leads now, since he can shut down Ninjask and can start a sweep at the beginning of a match.
But now, what about Trickbanding Alakazam? Tricking Gyarados into wearing a set of Choice Specs would be pretty nasty, since now he can't Taunt OR DD. And since the standard bulky water Gyarados we all love so much doesn't have many EVs in it's attack stat, without DD it's easily a sub-par sweeper.
Of course, these are my thoughts on it. You may disagree, but I really do think 'Zam could make a comeback now in place of so many Gengars.
