Yep, another Sun Team

Hey guys! This is my first RMT, and I'm really excited to hear what you all have to say. I've had some encouraging results from this very offensive team, winning, i would say 85% of my battles on Showdown.

I made this team after I had just gotten swept by Chlorophyll Venusaur, so naturally I kind of based my team around him to start with.I added Ninetales, since it's a requiem for any sun team, and I just went along testing how other pokemon fit on this team until I got what I got.

Without further adieu, I present to you... my team. :)

Ninetales @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Spe / 120 SpD
Timid Nature
-Flamethrower
-SolarBeam
-Sunny Day
-Roar
Please excuse me as I write an obligatory three sentences on why I have Ninetales on my sun team. 136 speed and a Timid nature allow him to outspeed a lot of things and consequently increases his longevity. All the other EVs go into bulk. Flamethrower and SolarBeam get pretty good coverage, Sunny Day is a must for the constant Politoed switch ins, and Roar is to get rid of baton passing leads and just PHazing in general. If I go up against another Rain or Sand team, I never lead with Ninetales, because he outspeeds them both most of the time and I can't risk him getting worn down. Otherwise I like to get Sun up early.

Venusaur @ Leftovers
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 244 HP / 136 Def / 128 SpA
Modest Nature
-Growth
-SolarBeam
-Hidden Power [Fire]
-Sludge Bomb
The basis of this team, With the given EVs he is pretty bulky, allowing him to get one or two growths which, under the sun, function as a pseudo-nasty plot. I didn't give him any speed EVs because with Chlorophyll included I just think its unnecessary. I use SolarBeam over Giga Drain for that extra 68 Base Power (stab included). Hidden power fire is boosted under the sun and gets great coverage, rounded off by Sludge Bomb. Heatran walls this completely, but I have a Claydol and Sawsbuck to handle him.

344.png

Claydol @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 250 Def / 16 SpD
Sassy Nature
-Rapid Spin
-Reflect
-Earthquake
-Ice Beam
Claydol is very important to this team as a defensive pivot, spinner and supporter because, he resists the infamous EdgeQuake combo, which this team is very weak to, and he can spin. Yes I know what you're thinking, "Why have just Reflect and not Light Screen with it", Well I like to set Reflect and as they switch expecting me to follow with LS I switch to Volcarona and set up with Quiver Dance. Just trust me, it works ;). Earthquake and Ice beam to hit stuff, especially Dragons, Rhyperior and Heatran.

616.png

Sawsbuck @ leftovers
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 108 HP / 252 Att / 148 Spe
Adament Nature
-Swords Dance
-Horn Leech
-Return
-Nature Power [Earthquake in simulator battles]
I'll be honest, I wanted to make him bulky while maxing his attack and I wasn't sure how to split it up so I just copied Smogon. Anyways he is a great pokemon, the best physical chlorophyll sweeper in my opinion, and he can check Heatran with Nature Power. What else is there to say?

071victreebel.gif

Victreebel @ leftovers
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
-Growth
-Solar Beam
-Weather Ball
-Hidden Power [ice]
Sound familiar? Okay SolarBeam plus Weather Ball, I couldn't turn it away, not as bulky as Venusaur, better Attack Power, HP Ice for Dragons. Otherwise it's the same as Venusaur.

637.gif

Volcarona @ Leftovers
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 240 HP / 216 Def / 52 Spe
Bold Nature
-Quiver Dance
-Fiery Dance
-Bug Buzz
-Roost
The most recent, and beneficial change to this team. After a few Quiver Dances, he is hard to take down, especially with roost, and he can hit really hard. Fiery Dance gives a 50% chance of an additional boost in his already huge Special Attack. Bug buzz for coverage. Simply put, Volcarona is a monster.

Hi there!

Really cool sun team you have here, with great use of underrated threats such as Claydol and Sawsbuck, so props to you for using both of them on your team. However, you have sone flaws that I see, and hopefully my rate will not only fix those flaws, but also help this team improve as well as helping reach it's full potential. With all that out of the way, let's get to my rate. First up, I would like to suggest running Will-O-Wisp over your current choice of Solarbeam on Ninetales. With Will-O-Wisp, Ninetales is able to get a burn on many notably Physical Attackers that can threaten your team. Up next, I would suggest running an EV spread of 76 HP / 252 SpA / 180 Spe and a Timid Nature on your Venusaur in place of your current EV spread and Nature. With the aftermentioned EV spread, Venusaur is able to outpace base 110 Speed Choice Scarf users, most notably Gengar & Latios. Staying on your Venusaur, I would definitely recommend running Giga Drain over Solarbeam. With Giga Drain, Venusaur is allowed to heal off Life Orb recoil, while also dealing out some huge damage to the many bulky Water types in the tier. Moving on, I would like to recommend running Stealth Rock over your current choice of Reflect on Claydol. With Stealth Rock, you get an excellent entry hazard to use, while it also makes your sweepers do their job much easier. Finally, I would like to recommend running Jump Kick on your Sawsbuck over your current moveslot choice of Nature Power. With Jump Kick, Sawsbuck is able to OHKO Ferrothorn after a Swords Dance boost, and not only that, but it allows you to hit Skarmory hard, which otherwise walls this set, and also hit all Steel typed Pokemon that hit Air Balloon. Well, that's all I have to say for now. I hope my advice helped. Have fun and good luck in your future endeavours!

i suggest replacing victreebel with heatran. its fire type moves are powered up under sun plus sawsbuk and saur bait out fire type attacks. Furthermore, venusaur and victreebel basically do the same thing, and just compound ur weakness to fire type.

victrebel and venusaur are both chlorophyll abuser and as there are no priority fire type moves they generally arnt going to have a problem with that

prity solid team only a few problems in that you have 4 pokemon that are weak to ice type moves... which isnt good. i love that your useing a claydol whom is very underatted and provides great synergy in that it provides and essential resistance to psychic pokemon that this team would otherwise struggle against. one suggestion for claydol try running him with power split as this effectivly cripples opponents while giveing you a boost to attack. one more problem im sure you encounter is most certainly other weather teams of which break your well consentrated use of chlorophyll and could quite easily sweep you i would suggest something such as gastrodon or jellicent in place of sawsabuck probs. also dont spam leftys as that has little use for pokemon as frail as victrbell or sawsabuck.

other then those outstanding flaws this team isnt to bad. i hope it all goes well for you and that i see you round the forums :D

Hi there,

This team has some serious problem and i doubt its very competitive as of now; some of your sets and the strategy itself its not very well builded but ill try to help as much as i can.
The first thing i see wrong here is that you have 3 clorophill users. while i understand you want to abuse of sun, this is not the way to go if you want to use a sun team. Every successfull sun team i've ever seen only use one clorophill pokemon, because you normally have to spend the other slot to deal with the problems sunny teams normally have.
Your team is also very susceptible to dragons, since you have no switch in for a draco meteor or an outrage and you will end up sacrificing a pokemon everytime a latios come in. You lack of a stealth rock user, which can be fixed by putting them to claydol, but i honestly dont think claydol is that good here, it really slows down your team and its not a good option in general.
To be honest, rating this team would mean basically change everything so i think you can take a look at this team for example : this is the most similar team to your i have in mind, which uses more than one clorophill user and a different ground type. I think that you can go with the fix jirachi gave to that team and try it. If you want any clarification feel free to pm me.

Thanks for all the advice, I'l be sure to implement and edit changes in a few days when I get the chance, but I'm really busy for the next week. I really appreciate you all taking the time to help me improve my team! (:

The fact that hes using two special based chlorophyll sweepers is a problem in itslef because it compounds weaknesses. Heatran covers weaknesses, provides a way to beat dragon types(with air balloon so that ground attacks won't kill it)

What do you guys think about this, just wondering. I haven't finished testing. This would allow to sponge Dragon, Ice and Fire attacks that could threaten this team.
