I want to write an article that discusses similar topics that this thread does, which is basically speculates how a Pokemon and metagame would change if a certain Pokemon changed tiers or if a Pokemon got a certain move or ability. I'm going to be discussing things that actually make sense and could be feasible (like, I could discuss what would happen if Mismagius moved down to RU, which is feasible because Mismagius is barely used in UU, but I don't talk about what would happen if Slowking got Bolt Strike or whatever).
I know this sounds redundant, especially since there's an NU thread about it, but as far as a search tells me, there's no RU thread (or at least, one that's been posted in the last couple months). The thread's not too active, but I don't think it deserves to be because Theorymon is a really interesting idea. Yes, a thread could be made, but I think this type of article would be a nice change. It'll be an interactive way of presenting thought-provoking ideas and also helpful and informative metagame analysis. This would be a unique way to appeal to a wide audience, and I would encourage them to think about these possibilities too.
Here is an example of a speculation. In my article, I would do several of these of various topics.
What if Rotom-C got Giga Drain?
Currently, Rotom-C's only viable Grass STAB option is Leaf Storm. Rotom-C is commonly seen running a Choice set due to its usable Speed, solid Special Attack, and access to Trick and STAB Volt Switch. Although Giga Drain is a superb move, Leaf Storm is still an excellent attack for Choice sets due to the sheer power granted by Choice Specs and the revenge killing opportunities available through Choice Scarf's speed boost. Despite this, Giga Drain would still a very viable option for Choice sets. If Rotom-C Tricks its Choice item away, it's able to use a Grass STAB attack without being crippled afterwards. Due to the nature of Choice sets, especially ones with Volt Switch or U-turn, Rotom-C switches frequently. Especially since Rotom-C has high defenses, it appreciates being able to heal off Stealth Rock and other damage while still packing a punch.
However, it is important not to forget that Rotom-C has the exact same stat distribution as its brother Rotom-W, one of OU's best bulky attackers. In this regard, Giga Drain is a fabulous attack. Bulky attackers aim to deal out decent damage and often times status while managing to stay alive through defensive investment and recovery, so Giga Drain is right on the money. One could argue that Giga Drain and Pain Split are redundant. Pain Split on Rotom-C is always an option to consider due to its low HP, high defenses, and the fact that Giga Drain is not a reliable form a recovery. However, it's also an option to consider foregoing Pain Split for a Hidden Power or running both Thunder Wave and Confuse Ray. Overall, in any scenario, Rotom-C would greatly appreciate Giga Drain due to its barren offensive movepool and Giga Drain's utility.
------------------------------
Of course, there are several possibilities I could bring up that wouldn't be that effective, but those would still be very informative and thought-provoking because I would still be able to discuss the properties of the Pokemon and how it fits into the RU metagame.
Thanks for your consideration!
