Yeah come on guys what's up with this I am at least rank 999
(This isn't my opinion towards that ranking specifically, but more against a player ranking as a whole).
While the idea is interesting, I think a Player Ranking based on "skill", "level" or opinion will never be objective for multiple reasons:
- Most of these players have been active in different era, with a different playerbase (be it better/larger, even tho better is once again a matter of opinion and not of fact).
- Most of them have been dominant/at the top of the game in a different tier.
- There are obviously a lot of players you don't know about, be it because they are not involved or smogon or just because they were good when you -as a group of player, not MOET only- weren't around. This is especially true if they are part of a different community (think about the Italian ADVer, or the German ADV/DPPer who are very good).
There are probably other reasons, but I just mentionned the one that I find the most important.
If anything, I've always believed you could make a ranking based on statistics, but it'd only shows which players are successful on Smogon and it can be sort of an injustice to say, a really good player who always manage to get far (like semi-final/final of multiple tournaments) but at the end earn nothing.
For those interested, I actually keep track of a Ranking based on tournament wins (I use the Tournament Listing thread as my stats provider), which you can see here: Stats Spreadsheet.
(Note: you can rank the players based on a column of your choice if you click on View-> List)

i like the idea of this, but i think with more time/effort put into it less people would bitch. Also I feel like this list was based of DP because you are missing alot of great BW (and dpp) players on here.

First off, reading over the initial list I almost feel like this was made to make people rage just because of how spotty it is. I edited the pastebin to add people / move people around to mostly what I think (because im sitting here at work mostly bored out of my mind). I know a lot of people will still criticize this list, not that I really blame them tiering on "who the consensus thinks was good" has plenty of reason to be questioned, but I'm going to at least make it a bit better/complete. I'll mostly be adding people to this list so people are less salty, but I did move some people up to higher tiers. I assumed the names inside each tier were not grouped from best to worst but simply just a group of equal standing players.

Most of Smogon's average players are good enough to make this list. Fucking Marriland is on it-- Even I would be better (this is saying something)-- or did you not look at the whole thing?
Marriland sucks... He always did. Lets not kid ourselves. It was meant to be a joke by him being added.
I like to think I am above average. Some of the tier 3 people could be above average, or average more or less. I know Bloo and Heist for example would vouch that I am deserving to be on this rank list. I also know they know I am not just average.
99.9999998% of Smogon is too good to be listed (math is fun!)

Definitely a more representative objective measurement of the best players on smogon then the list given in the op.

That's actually a pretty cool list, I definitely dig it. I have always thought making such a ranking would be a good idea. Have you thought about adding the number of finals someone has made?
We should seriously look into banning certain players from playing in tournaments. Seriously, I don't care who you are or what team you're playing, playing against someone like Earthworm, who is by all rights a top player with his character is daunting and scary. They're smart, comfortable, and experienced. Other players are just randoms to them and they're going into the match fully intending to expose and embarrass us. It takes battle-hardening to shake that feeling off.
