First UU Team -- UmbreGar + Offensive. Need Advice!

Hi there everybody, my name is Carchomp and this is my first UU RMT. Ive recently gotten back into competitive battling(used to play in gen 4) and plan to play on Wi-Fi/Showdown/Online whatever. This was just a team i brought together. Rather than going for the popular Empolegar combo, i'd go for UmbreGar, bringing in my favourite Eeveelution and coincidently my favourite pokemon on the team. So without further ado, i present to you my team:

The Team

Froslass @ Leftovers
Trait: Cursed Body
EVs: 248 Hp / 252 Spe / 8 SpA
Timid Nature
-Spikes
-Taunt
-Pain Split
-Shadow Ball

As suggested by psychotic, I opted for a bulkier and more reliable lead seeing as this is a more balanced team rather than hyper offensive.

Azelf @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
Timid Nature
-Psychic
-Fire Blast
-Shadow Ball
-Grass Knot/Taunt

I originally had Crobat in this position, standard leadbat to check common leads who will try to setup entry hazards versus me due to no rapid spin support. I ended up choosing a attacking Azelf who counter most of the strong fighting types in the UU pool, and common leads other than gligar/rhyperior. Im questioning whether to go for taunt/grass knot due to a bulky rhyperior easily being to setup rocks and stall me with dragon tail. Main problem with azelfs are bulky leads who i dont really have an answer to which can freely setup on me if i dont have taunt available.

Gligar @ Eviolite
Trait: Immunity
EVs: 4 Spd / 252 HP / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake

Standard Bulky Gligar with roost toxic stall, also can serve as a lead to setup rocks if i see no threat. I really like gligar as my physical wall it can sponge most physical hits bar ice moves and serves as a switch to sponge physical hits i know are coming. Its also a check to scarf heracross which does pose a threat to my team if not dealt with. Overall the Umbreon+Gligar combo serve as great walls who can sponge hits i am predicting to come. Usually use him as my lead behind azelf but if the enemy outpredicts me i can usually setup rocks and not be screwed unless they lead with a pokemon that will OHKO with an ice move

Raikou @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Raikou was the last pokemon to be chosen to the team, i just threw in the annoying Calm Mind Sub set that can easily setup and sweep teams that arent ready for him. However i am open to suggestions to replacing raikou, or rather keeping him and making team adjustments. I dont really know what to put in this position i put in raikou which replaced my specs roserade which i am thinking of bringing back, but just highlights my glaring ice weakness. I was considering maybe a spec moeletta which most people wouldnt expect and does pack a punch in its aria forme with max SpA and specs. Am open to suggestions

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Heal Bell
- Foul Play
- Protect

Umbreon. My favourite pokemon, and my favourite UU cleric in the tier. I opt for Heal Bell over toxic as i can usually setup toxics with my gligar and switch to umbreon because umbreon will soak any ice hit that comes its way. Foul play is there for if i get taunted and standard wish protect for stall and just utility for the team. Acts great as a special attack sponge and usually take most hits that arent effective great and can wish protect stall or wish and switch out to a pokemon i need to heal. Dont really want to replace

Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge

I initally chose a scarf mienshao as my revenge killer, but for some reason i really dont like how mienshao is really obviously scarfed when not played in a fakeout/uturn lead role. I opted for choicegon as if can potentially sweep teams that arent expecting it and is a great revenge killer with all the fighting types in the tier. However flygon opens my team to its second 4x weakness against ice, which can be a problem if i come across a specs kingdra/roserade with hidden power ice. Similarly, scarf mienshaos who run hidden power ice may be a problem. I am open for suggestions in this poke slot too.

Scrafty @ Leftovers
Trait: Shed Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Crunch
- Rest

Scrafty out of all the pokemon bar umbreon is my favorite Pokemon in the team. I run a standard bulky bulk-up (lol) set which is great vs people who don't expect the bulkiness of Scrafty. With 2x boost bulk up i was able to take a banded v-create victini which hit about 60%. Not bad if you ask me. The main problem i have with scrafty is his potential for being out sped. I haven't tried a dragon dance set, but maybe replacing scrafty for a better sweeper that packs a punch and is buily may be a better option here. I dont really know

The main problems with this team is that if i don't predict correctly I will usually just end up losing due to not having any powerful revenge killers such as heracross or mienshao. The glaring problem i have is with suicine/kingdras who run bulky offensive and can shutdown my team with a few calm minds and boltbeam combos.

Thanks for viewing my RMT, any advice is helpful!

Hey, this is a pretty good UU team, and I like the Bulk Up/Calm Mind Core you have going with Scrafty and Raikou. It looks like it could be a powerful win condition, and I really wanna help you succeed with this team. With that said, here's my rate.

First thing I think you should do is run a lead Azelf set. Something similar to this:

Azelf @ Life Orb/Mental Herb/Normal Gem
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
Jolly Nature
-Zen Headbutt
-U-Turn
-Taunt
-Stealth Rock/Explosion

Not only will this shut down most slower leads, but it will also get Stealth Rocks on the field right off the bat, which can really help Scrafty and Raikou out. It's also a scouter and an adequate revenge killer thanks to U-Turn. Another thing you could do is run Normal Gem and Explosion, which would give you a ton of momentum and some pretty decent damage, but I mostly don't recommend this simply because of the Explosion/Selfdestruct nerf.
Now that Azelf has Stealth Rocks, you can make room for Taunt on Gligar, which will keep him from being complete setup bait. This is very important, especially since you lack any way to phase.

Something that seems to be giving your team trouble are the two bulky grounds of the tier, Swampert and Rhyperior. What I recommend doing to patch this problem is to add a Spikes Roserade. Roserade will add a ton of utility to your team by adding another entry hazard, which will make sweeping with Scrafty and Raikou easier. It will also help you out with your Rhyperior and Swampert problems, which is nice.

In terms of what to replace, I'd say Flygon needs to go. Flygon doesn't really seem to be doing much for your team besides giving you a very glaring ice weakness. It's not a very powerful revenge killer either, and it can be kind of lackluster as a late-game sweeper. Roserade would fit in that spot more comfortably.

That's it from me! Good luck.

Hey, I just want to say that Umbreon + Gligar is more popular than Empoleon + Gligar.

I think you should be running: Psyshock, Fire Blast, Grass Knot, and Taunt for your Azelf. I would also stick with a sash because you will not be able to OHK Specially Defensive Claydol OR Bronzong with Grass Knot and Fire Blast respectively. With Life Orb, you're only making those kills a stronger 2HK. You want taunt since you do not run a spinner, this way, you can keep hazards off the field. Even if someone predicts your taunt, even if you are critted by say Gyro Ball, you can still manage to get a big hit off then proceed to go to the appropriate check or counter.

Right now, in most Public Matches, Flygon will be seen as Choiced Scarf. In tournaments you will see a lot of CB Flygons; however, since this is just pub-stomping, you will be seeing a lot of Scarfed Flygons. Because of this, I still recommend you use Regenerator Mienshao because hazards will be on your field if your opponent plays around Azelf. Regenerator allows Mienshao to miss 1 HJK and recover up some of that damage taken. Reckless doesn't help your team too much because you have a bulk sweeper in the form of Scrafty, and a fast sweeper in the form of Raikou.

Good luck

Congrats on the first RMT! I have a few suggestions for you:
1) That azelf set is a little weird. One suggestion that the ambipom h8r above me suggested was using psyshock which is a good idea. that being said, the set still doesn't do much for the team an is still easily shut down by umbreon and lax, 2 of the most common specially defensive walls in the tier. I actually think you should get rid of azelf altogether cuz I think something else would help you out better. I'd try out froslass as it gives you early game pressure in the form of spikes and can stop a spin once or twice.
2) I think the standard raikou sub CM set has become so common and easily checked that I feel like you should mix this up. I'd say use either a specs volt-switch set that gives you some volt-turn momentum or try out life orb, calm mind, aura sphere, hp ice, thunderbolt.
3) I don't think gligar really needs both roost and toxic. I'd replace one of the two with u-turn

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Ill try both your azelf/roserade suggestions and see how they go.

Alrighty, ill change up my gligar set and see how things work out! Ill also consider that raikou choice as usually when i try to setup i am easily read by the opponent thinking im SubCM. Thanks!

Hi Carchomp, solid team, here are a few changes you could make to improve it.

Moveset Suggestions:
As the above poster mentioned, I think that your Azelf is holding this team back, and by changing Azelf to Bulky Froslass you would improve your team a lot. Azelf kinda feels like a suicide lead, whereas the rest of your team is balanced. You will end up playing 5 on 6 a lot of games, and with the style of team you are using, I think it is more beneficial to have a pokemon that supports your team throughout the whole game and provides hazard support. Both Scrafty and Flygon are attackers that really appreciate spikes support, wearing down bulky waters that wall both and putting offensive mons such as Heracross and Victini into Outrage KO range. At the same time you get a spinblocker, which is always nice to have. Keeping Stealth Rock on the field helps a lot to keep Specs Chandelure, a big threat to your team, in check. Because of this threat, you should run Shadow Ball on Froslass, to take Chandy out once it has been weakened. Shadow Ball also beats opposing lead Froslass, who will undoubtedly Taunt turn 1, and get 2hkod.

Suggested Changes:

Froslass (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 Spd / 248 HP / 8 SAtk
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Taunt
- Pain Split
- Spikes
