Pokémon XY General Discussion

question: how exactly does Gamefreak decide which Pokemon to heavily market? Like, for example, Lucario from Gen IV onward
We don't know
They probably just test the waters with various Pokemon they think will be a hit (Lucario, Zoroark, etc) and if its successful (Lucario) they market it more.
Things like the starters or box legends get heavy marketning because they're the face of the generation that you can't NOT know about or encounter in the games.
Pikaclones get relatively heavy marketing probably because they're pikaclones

Oddballs, like Stunfisk, probably only get a marketing push when they see it's well-liked.

We do not see them marketing the so-called pikaclones as much as some people want to make us believe, nor do they necessarily only support the most successful ones. Actually, back then when BW had its heyday they had the need to push Zekrom because Reshiram's popularity in Japan totally eclipsed the one of Zekrom, unlike in the west. In the west however we usually don't get any marketing at all.
We also don't think that people can graps the extent of the marketing before they have seen those real life Pokemon Centers from the inside. As a rule of thumb, everything cute sells in Japan; Eeveelutions everywhere, Pikachu, several mons appearing regularly in the anime, the legendary ones with the equal stats and more of random cutemons like Joltik and so on, including the oddballs like Magikarp and Stunfisk. They appear to have the same appeal of cute to people who like pugs. And lastly nobody should forget that plushies make everything cute. All in all their stock is a bit more rounded, albeit heavily on the cute side instead of the badass.
does anyone know how to pronounce dedenne?
電 is den \dɛn\ for electricity and the French antenne \a'tɛn\

Result?
\dɛˈdɛn\
Reads like Dental-den: Deden.

Edit: Sorry, swaped a letter.

Sorry, we are better with IPA than with paraphrasing.

That's suppose to be the French antenne, therefore the ne is silent. And whoever came up with that name should be shot in the leg because it is very difficult to pronouce dɛ without the n behind.
To make it easier, we recommend /de'dɛn/. But yes, the "ne" is silent and the accent is on the second syllable.

Edit: Should we mention that "de" is not supposed to be pronuciated as day? Try the de from anything like de-emphasis, de-skilling, de-icer.

It's going to be two slow weeks until CoroCoro. Especially since we've discussed anything and everything possible. By the way, nice theory by this guy:

nah, one of us will think of something. Here's one: how much better is this game going to look on an XL? (grasping straws I know but still I want to upgrade and stuff)

Having an XL myself and have seen the e-shop pictures for top and bottom screen I say they look great.

As for the theory mentioned above. I've read people speculating about (re)birth and destruction before, but not fortune and greed. Gotta admit the latter seems intriguing. Perhaps both concepts could be combined.

There are no such thing as a bad Pokemon, only bad people making Pokemon do bad things.

That said, the theory mentioned in the video above has some notable flaws. If Yveltal goes after Team Flair because they are greedy people, it would mean that Yveltal is a bad Pokemon by itself which contradicts the above statement.

A statement from the anime that has no bearing on any of the games. And Even then the anime has legendary pokemon react negatively towards people in like every movie

Ah, yes there are.

On top of my head:
Spiritomb - freaking got bound to a keystone because of its mischief.
Giratina - it was banished (probably by Arceus). Although reason is unclear.
Drifloon - tries to kidnap kids.
Chandelure - Absorbs spirits and burns them...

I could go on...

EVILtal could very well be evil or at least has the potential to be like how Darkrai induces nightmares, but can also be the "good guy" like in the movie.

There is nothing left to discuss unless anyone wants to go completely off topic and get banned.
I agree with locking the thread until CoroCoro leaks next month.

chances are someone will come up with something on topic so locking the thread seems pretty pointless

Well we still dont know how mega stones and abilities interact.

Mewtwos abiities are all passive so it seems like they're hiding whether intimidate and the like still function as we'd expect .
Im also curious if buffs are reset.

Every single time we go more than 2 days without new information like 5 people always come in and say WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DISCUSS (WHEN WILL COROCORO LEAK NEXT)

and yet mysteriously the thread continues to live until the next batch of information.
