You were not able to trade in 5th gen until you received the C-Gear/Pal Pad which required beating the first gym, receiving HM01, and rescuing Musharna.
All of this still counts as getting to trade after the first gym badge because rescuing the pokemon and getting cut and everything are all small side quests which you have to complete so you can get the c-gear and unlock the trading feature.

oh wow. never thought of that. Jesus mega evolving would be the dumbest thing ever if it fully healed your pokeman.

but yeah i don't think anyone knows yet. In the demo the game forces you to Mega Evolve Mewtwo on the first turn so yeah.

before the 5th gen games though you can trade as soon as you get the dex and tbh I'd like to see a return to that
I also think this to be a good feature. It can help a lot if you can obtain Pokemon by trading before the first gym.Even though it is a good idea,I kinda have a feeling that GF is going to twist and turn everything around so that everything we so far thought to be true would be different, thus being able to do one thing that they can do properly:Making us run around in circles.

Knowing GF, I doubt they'll go back to allowing trades before the first gym, unless its a remake of a game where that was the case. But still, the first gym doesn't normally go higher than level 13, so it's not too big of a setback. I know that I personally will be rocking all three starters in X and using Torchic as my starter in Y, so early trading is pretty important to me.

We do.

The question is beside ttechnically lowering encounter rates why would anyone want to walk?
There will probably be sections where you want precision. Think along the lines of why would anyone want to run when we have the bike(s).

Or in the case of XY's demo, why would anyone run when they have skates (its because skates are crazy to control)

Well the circle pad isn't the most precise thing in the world (it pulls back harder than any control pad I've ever used) but its placement on the 3DS is a little more natural than the D-Pad so the addition of diagonal movement could make controlling your character at faster speeds a little harder. You're more likely to run into corners of building, signs, fences, trainers, etc. just because of that diagonal movement happening when you might not want it to.

There's also the trainers that look at you if you're running but precision is the main reason walking should stay.

Not much was revealed here that we didn't already know. The only thing that stuck out for me was that he mentioned customizing hair style, hair color, and clothes. I know they revealed trainer customization ages ago with the may corocoro, but this is the first time I've heard of those particular aspects (outside of hair color from the skin color customization screen shot) being customisable (albeit I haven't been monitering X&Y's news that closely).

There was a screenshot of the friends list page on the PSS that showed multiple trainer avatars with varied hairstyles, hair colors, and head accessories. No official statements were made about the limits of customization, however, but what's shown implies that there are certain articles of clothing that can be toggled on/off on top of being interchangeable with other accessories of that article.
Just in case you find it interesting that you don't have to wear a hat if you don't feel like it.

I love the way Joel sells MEvo. "They get powered up, but you have to give up the ability to use other items", still doesn't say anything concrete about potential base stat increases. Curse you, Joel.

Well, I know everyone's talking about walking shoes, but didn't anyone consider that it might be similar to XD and Colosseum? It could be based on how far you push the analog stick, which isn't too bad.
Demo has running as the default, you hold the b button (d-pad?) to walk, and you do something else to ride skates (b button? d-pad?)

I doubt they'll say anything other than the "Defense and Special Defense are sharply raised" that we've gotten already

Honestly, I'm surprised they haven't gone back to the HGSS method for running/walking (the button on the bottom screen). Since BW the bottom screen has been used for other things, so making running the default option seems logical.

Are roller skates not a key item like the bicycle? It'd be weird to walk 5 steps, skate 1 step, run 3 steps, etc.

I know better than to expect anything more, but rephrased blanket statements get on my nerves.

No one knows, and anyone who might have figured it out through the demo haven't said anything. Rollerskating may activate at the touch of a trigger button if it wasn't given any significance.
