I need help. More specifically, how do I paint them on my dominant hand? It looks pretty horrible atm. It's all inconsistent and I get it all over my skin. General online guides have not helped.

Practice. If this is your first couple times doing it, you're not going to be good at it right away. I've been shaving my face for ~17 years and I still screw it up regularly. These things take time, you won't be good at it overnight.

at the rate of these retarded question threads we might as well have a simple question simple answer a forum edition thread. oh wait, we do. it's called google.

i can't even tell if these are joke threads at this point, especially @ your last sentence.

lol, as I said general online guides haven't helped me much, I was asking for specifics on painting my dominant hand. Maybe someone actually has something they do to help paint their offhand.

For the record, this is not a joke thread. People have been making joke responses, but that picture is actually my hand. I though we had the "Serious" tag for serious threads.

Is no one actually going to answer this? I am actually curious as to how it done.
you should note the number of penis wielders itt

one time a female friend was like dakota can I paint one of your nails?!
and then I had a turquoise nail for like a week and a half and all my friends assumed that was me coming out of the closet
(BAN ME PLEASE)s

(no seriously they're literally all gay, of my six close friends five have come out now)(Number six has sucked a dick but I don't think he's actually gay)

but yeah actually dude, just do it a lot, there's no special tricks, just practice, like most things.
masturbate with your left hand more, improve it's dexterity. Try using your mouse with your left hand. idk, use your left hand more maybe that'll help

oh yeah I guess you just said non-dominant not left, but I can assume

The good thing about nail polish is that even if you mess it up, it's not the end of the world. I'm a chick with YEARS of nail polish practice, and I still mess up when I polish the nails on my dominant hand. There are two tricks you can use to correct yourself:

1) For more immediate results, just wait until the polish is slightly dry (it doesn't have to be completely dry or anything). Then, get one of those pointy q-tips, dip the q-tip in nail polish remover, and remove any polish that's outside the lines.

2) This is probably the better method, IMO. Wait till your nails are *fully* dry, and then wash your hands with warm water. The nail polish will peel off of the non-nail spots on its own!

Now that that's out of the way, I have to ask: why are you painting your nails in the first place? Is it for an event or something...? Or do you just want to look fabulous? (if it's the latter, that's okay too. i'm just curious :toast: )

I quite like the look when I'm doing stuff where I see my fingers, but I don't think it's for fabulousity yet. I spose I will just practice more then~

I'm 23 and only started painting my nails about 3-4 years ago (used to be a bit of a tomboy) and when I started I was horrible at it. My nails were so messy, then when I went to clean them up with nail polish remover, I'd just make it worse. It just took practice but I got better at it. Just keep practicing :)

Lanturn has some great advice :)

Good luck with future nail polishing :)

And I agree about it being nice to look at painted nails. It just feels better looking at your hands when your nails are painted :)

I usually don't paint my own nails but since my friend is essentially an expert (she does like real nail art for herself on both hands) and she's learned to do that through a ton of practice. Eventually you'll get the precision down to do it with minimal mess, but to start you can definitely do what Lanturn recommended and wait for it to dry around your nails and peel the rest off your skin after washing with warm water.

I used to paint my non-dominant hand first, and then the other, because that's human nature when it comes to stuff. Instead, paint your dominant hand first so you're less likely to rush through it. Make sure you have good lighting too.

I normally do the first stroke up the middle, then go slowly along one side, then the other, then fill in the rest. The goal is to go slow and aim to make a straight line up the side of your nail against your finger. When it comes to the bottom against your cuticle, get a little more polish and kinda dab it down there so it fills in. It's hard to explain, I guess. I never mess with my cuticles, I don't push them back or anything, so there's enough of a 'lip' there to catch some paint and make a smooth line.

After a few months of painting my nails regularly, doing my dominant hand first, I've found it a lot easier.

It won't be perfect even if you take your time. Do two coats then let it dry for a few hours. Then take a shower. The polish that made it onto the sides of your fingers or below your cuticles should mostly come off without any work. I always find my nails looks best the day after I paint them after all the side polish comes off.
