I manually put Earthquake as a 66 base power physical ground move, so its net power won't be affected by Hustle (actually slightly decreased).

Kinda like Salamence, I guess.

idk about that 1.5 boost, abilities like these, where there are no drawbacks to the boost, seem more likely to give a 1.2 boost, a 1.3 boost at best. Also, it's not like it will wreck the meta just like that, as getting sun up and pulling a DD off are two conditions that need to be met right here already so yea.
 
True, but it will also most likely have way higher than 110 attack if these pokémon are supposed to be on par with legendaries. Right now it just seems like a Salamence THAT IS FUCKING IMMUNE TO SCALD BURNS. Do you know how amazing that is?????????

Its also one that takes 50% from SR and has no access to intimidate to get an easy DD
 
He still has to Mega Evolve during battle. Which means non Mega Charizard has to switch in. Which means it has Fire/Flying typing.

Only after it Mega Evolves of course. Still, I don't know why everyone is saying that this thing will suck because it's 4x weak to SR. By the sound of it, it's going to be powerful as fuck, and it has a great movepool. Pair that thing up with a spinner, and you have a nasty physical sweeper at your hands. I don't think that the "taking 50% damage from SR will keep it from sweeping" argument is accurate, because it will ALWAYS be paired with a spinner, so why the hell would you ever switch it in onto SR? See Volcarona if you want an example of a Mon that's 4x weak to SR but manages to sweep a huge portion of the tier with just spin support. If Zard gets the equivalent of 140+ Attack when factoring in its new ability and its new stat raise, it will be a very potent DD or Sub Salac SD sweeper, regardless of SR.

For anyone else who chose the puny little Charmander on LeafGreen as a child and grew up perplexed as to why this thing was not a Dragon Type by the end of its evolution, this is a dream come true.
To be honest, Fire - Flying is pretty overshadowed by Fire - Dragon in so many aspects. Better coverage and better resistances in general.

Holding the X Stone:
Not being able to hold onto your Specs or Life Orb anymore is honestly not a huge detriment in my opinion. The site (and previous exhibitions) have shown us that these "Mega Evolutions" are getting significant stat boosts. And we don't mean like the +20 the Genies received. This is like ... +30,40

The first is just a reason why you like Charizard, not a reason why it will be good in the competitive world. I never cared for Charizard even as a kid though, so maybe I can't relate. I also understood why it wasn't a Dragon type—it would have been too overpowered as a starter, since Dragon types were fantastic in that gen (and still are). Plus, the Charmander line is based on lizards, not dragons. Charizard just happens to have wings, and despite the common joke, dragons are not just "lizards with wings".

The problem with your second point is that your opponent can use a Mega Evolution too. Also, considering there will most definitely be better Mega Evolutions than Mega Charizard, is there really a place for Charizard on an OU team? Charizard before he mega evolves still really sucks.

I just looked on Serebii, and it doesn't say that anywhere. This only stones that are confirmed in name, even now, are the ones for the Mewtwo forms, Lucarionite, and Blazikenite. Even if it did, GameFreak has already given us "wrong" info, since they said Mega Mewtwo Y was called Awakened Form. I can't see them simply favoring one starter over the other two.
 
Don't worry people; I get the game before it gets officially released. Whatever relevant competitive information I find out through playing I will share here. New pokemon, moves, items, etc and what have you I will share with the people since I'm just so fucking cool.

I can easily see them favoring Charizard over the other two, they've been doing it for years.

Serebii is not posting every detail because they don't have the games yet; video footage of the guy who picked Bulbasaur shows him receiving Venusaurite.
 
If all the starters got part Dragon typing, then Blastoise would be a really big threat, both offensively and defensively. The fact that it would have STAB Dragon pulse, further boosted by it's ability means that it wouldn't even need much investment to hit hard with it's stabs. And it's transformation to it's mega would be very handy. Thunderbolt? sorry not happening. One other question I have is, do the Pokemon HAVE TO mega evolve on the first turn, or can you choose which turn to mega evolve? If you can, then Blastoise would be even more of a defensive threat. The only problem is the fact it doesn't have any recovery except for Aqua Ring. So I guess an offensive variant might be more useful.
 
Distinctly remember a theory about how there would be two new formes of Mewtwo based off the Pokemon website's links for pictures. Going to look into it and see if there's any relations.

Edit: Guess whoever made that mistake was fired and they covered it up. Every picture now has similar links and there's no way to tell if it has two forms.

Mega Charizard X is a Fire Dragon with a new ability that increases dmg for moves with physical contact. flare blitz + dragon claw + earthquake + dragon dance is going to take charizard straight to UU, maybe even OU.

First off, Charizard isn't my favorite Pokemon. It's Garchomp. His Mega Evolution X and Y will definitely be receiving a lot of my attention though. Simply put he's receiving a hell of a lot of hype right now and so I'm "fanboying" and joining the crowd. In all honesty this thing deserves the hype.

But there are "worse" Mega Evolutions such as Mega Lucario (who seriously gains no superior niche to the original Lucario than just a superior Bullet Punch) and Mega Blastoise (OU Material? As of now I doubt it).

Mega Charizard Y gets Drought. You need to step back and realize just how insane that is. They placed Drought and Drizzle and some half-assed Pokemon and look at the influence they have on the metagame. Mega Charizard Y won't be replacing Ninetales as weather inducer because of his typing but Drought definitely puts him on a whole 'nother level. Add all this with the fact that his already above average SpA is getting a significant boost, and you have a monster in your hand.

Mega Charizard X gets a whole bunch of new toys which certainly place themselves above little gimmicks. His new typing, Dragon-Fire provides with a more manageable x2 weakness to Stealth Rocks.
In fact here's what MegaZardX gets:
x2 : Rock, Ground, Dragon
x0.5 : Steel, Bug, Electric,
x 0.25 : Fire, Grass
Three weaknesses in exchange for Five resistances. Not bad at all. Let's not forget he's now neutral to Fairy, Ice, and Water. That's huge.

Ampharos, Mawile, Kangeskhan and Absol all aren't OU viable before they Mega Evolve. I don't see anyone saying that they won't get a spot in OU cause their original evolution sucks.

You don't seem to understand something as well:
Look at Volcarona. This moth was crippled by Stealth Rocks. Yet he has shown to the entire OU community just how f_ckin' stupid it can get when a Pokemon with such a weakness is gifted with an incredible gift, Quiver Dance in his case. He was able to sweep teams off their feet 6-0 if the situations arise which isn't impossible at all.

When you give Charizard Y a huge SpA boost along with Drought, an ability capable of turning NU pokemon into Top OU usage Pokemon, he is definitely without a a doubt in my mind, leave his mark in OU.
Charizard Y with his significant Attack boost is going to maul teams with his new found Dual STABs.

Charizard, being gifted with two Mega Evolutions, can play some serious mindgames. How will you tell if it'll go Special or Physical? Just what can possible safely switch in when such a threat is overlooming.

Don't go about tearing down a Pokemon just cause it sucks now.

Water is neutral against CharX. That's one of the best things about it. Takes pitiful damage from Scald in Sun and can't be burnt.
 
Something that will be fun to do is to partner Charizard up with Ninetales, not just for the double Drought, but also to play mindgames with the opponent. Mega Zard X will most likely be fantastic on sun teams too, so the opponent wont know for sure if you're running Ninetales and Mega Zard Y for the double Drought, or to power up Mega Charizard X's Flare Blitz. I'm toooo excited for these megas man.

Or you super trololol them with specs solar power overheat from normal Charizard which will likely still be the most powerful and saves your mega slot.
 
Mega Charizard X, huh? How absolutely delightful.

At this point, I think Charizard has a very good reason to be used in OU. First off, the ability to mega-evolve into two very different forms (one physical and one special) instantly makes it quite unpredictable and very difficult to outright counter, as is the case with other versatile threats. Of course, that means very little if the one or both of the evolutions aren't viable. However, from what we've seen, I think they will be. Charizard Y, of course, has Drought. Quite frankly, that in itself gives Charizard an instant niche in OU. The ability to summon permanent weather is just that good of an ability. Couple that with actually nice stats that will be boosted further by Mega Evolution, and we have a very solid pokemon on our hands. Stealth Rocks hurt though, and that will definitely be a problem for it. But aside from that issue, which can be worked around with solid support, Charizard Y looks like a much better alternative to Ninetales. In fact, it probably will be capable of being a dangerous Sun abuser in its own right thanks to its stats.

Charizard X has a different set of strengths and flaws entirely. While it doesn't get Drought (obviously the main reason to use Charizard Y), it compensates for that with a much better typing that lets it be a powerful standalone threat. Being a physical Dragon that is not capable of being burned (yikes) and is not hit super effectively by either Ice or Fairy makes it pretty unique amongst Dragons, and that amount of physical power it gets from mega evolution and Tough Claws will be quite nice for sweeping or just killing things outright. Not to mention it already has a good enough movepool to work with as it is. Being Stealth Rock weak is annoying, but of course several other Dragons of OU have the same problem. Really, whether or not this thing is viable depends on just the size of the stat boost it gets. If it really is a significant amount, enough to match up to holding a Life Orb, perhaps, then I think it has a pretty good chance in OU. Of course, the fact that Charizard could be either X or Y will cause some fun mindgames.

One last thing, even if Charizard isn't viable, it's quite likely going to be OU anyway. It's usage is probably going to spike with all the people who think it must be viable because of all the aforementioned buffs.
 
It seems as though Charizard X would make a decent wallbreaker with a set of Fire Blast, Outrage, Earthquake, and Roost now -- since it does have a pretty usable SpA stat and the dragon typing will definitely give it a lot more durability. Hopefully the Atk boost is significant
 
People definitely underestimate the influence instant weather has. If GF gave Luvdisc Drizzle, it would be bl instantly. Charizard Y not only has Drought, but it has good stats to carry itself. A spA boost will probably bring Mega zard to 145 base spA. That's just my assumption though. With a good speed, Charizard not only functions well as a Drought bringer, but also as a very potent wall breaker. I might even run Dragon Dance on it for the sole purpose of speed, so it could function as a sweeper. Of course this is only if the opposing team lacks weather. Dragon/Fire, a good attack, an ability that increases attack, good move pool, no way in hell is Charizard X gonna be anywhere less than OU. If you think it's gonna be bl, or UU then you just need to give it a long hard thought. You might think that there's no way it's gonna set up. But with it's typing it can set up on a multitude of Pokemon, bulky waters included.
 
Charizard x is definitely interesting, the fact that it has two potential megas makes it so you can play mind games. People have been calling to make charizard a dragon type forever. Well he finally gets it however not all is good for him. Although he loses his horrid SR weakness, it is only AFTER he mega evolves, he will still need spin support or to get into the game before hazards are up to have any use. On the other hand mega evolving makes him vulnerable to all forms of hazards and he will still lose 1/4 to stealth rock. Fire dragon is still better typing than fire flying and is completely unique to all tiers below Uber. Charizard X will now take 1x damage from fairy and will be immune to scald. He will now only 2x weak to rock, ground and dragon. He is only getting a boost in attack compared to Charizard Y's significant boost to special attack however Tough claws adds to his attack on contact moves. he should be able to do good physical damage and will possibly still have the special attack to pull off a mixed set. Charizard X has an interesting move pool that includes dragon dance however he will be still be limited to only a few sets because he is forced to carry his mega item. This means no band or scarf sets. He may hit hard but 100 base speed is average and he is very frail. The typing is unique but i see him still being an inferior to most OU dragons. I think dragonite will still run better DD sets and Kyurem B will run better mixed sets. This isnt to say charizard X wont work in ou, there will just likely be better options. i forsee Charizard X likely ending up in UU.

Charizard Y in my opinion will likely be the better or the two despite his worse defensive typing. Drought is a fantastic ability and unlike ninetales, charizard will be able to do massive damage with his special attack stat. He could probably used as a solo drought inducer or even on just an anti weather team as a special attacker but he will probably be used most in tandem with ninetales as a secondary drought inducer/special sweeper. I think Charizard will completely replace volcarona on sun teams. He doesnt have access to QD but he will likely hit just as hard as volcarona. Unlike volcarona, charizard is immune to earthquake, spikes, toxic spikes and resists fire. Most importantly he will make a huge difference in weather wars, giving sun a much better chance of actually winning them. This isnt to say volcarona wont see its use because it will be a better option on teams that dont want sun, a pokemon that has to stay in a turn before evolving or want to use another mega pokemon. Anyway I think Charizard Y is going to be OU for sure but how good it will actually be there remains to be seen.

Charizard cannot be described as frail. His defensive stats aren't the best when compared to other high level sweepers like Garchomp or Salamence. But 78/78/85 is respectable. In fact Charizard will have an easier time to set up on Scizor than Volc does because of it's higher defense. Kyurem-B might serve as a better wall breaker but Charizard X will be a better sweeper. It'll also be a staple to sun teams, who now have a dragon who can actually make use of the sun. It's true that his sets will not be able to utilize Band and Scarf. But with Dragon Dance there's no need for that. Also, being a sweeper who resists the two most common priority moves, bullet punch and mach punch is a plus as well. To give you an idea of how powerful this behemoth is:

This is assuming base 120 attack, and a 1.3x boost from tough claws. Like mentioned earlier by someone, even it's not viable (which it is), it'll still be OU because of the usage. This was a topic that came up before, but if one form is OU the other two will probably join it, unless there's a Rotom like situation.
