Another Australian tournament

Well, when you're playing for prizes the game becomes more competitive and with competitive games, if it's not banned you might as well abuse it. It's what happens in other competitive games too. Of course, if I was playing with randoms or friends I wouldn't use Wobbuffet but in a tournament where it's allowed? Sure. Just like if Mewtwo wasn't banned everyone will be using it.

Just a question though, with base stats what's considered good? Like is HP 70-80 considered "normal"?

lol good point, stuff morals. im gonna use a wobuffet now...

70-80 is normal, just not fantastic, well, at least thats how i'd define it. competitively, it probably isnt good enough, but it depends, gardevoir only has base 68 hp i think, but it gets along relatively ok

Arrgh they have a tourney everywhere except where I live, the capital no less (for those Americans who think our capital is Sydney, it isn't. Its actually Canberra)

http://www.aussie-nintendo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13960&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 makes for some interesting reading.

The Eastern States ones have a reasonably large turnout, which is good. It sounds like there'll be a high level of competition too, it's not going to be just little kids and serebii.net regulars. This gives me an excuse to rebreed my team (they had decent IVs but nothing stellar..Jump basically looked at them and asked me if I was joking), and more importantly make a new one now that I know what I'll be up against.

Apparently hackers are running rampant..a good number of the winners seem to be blatantly hacking (even to the point of using PokeSav at the tour location). Hopefully I don't get cleaned up by something with 255 EVs in each stat.

Good God, I hope they check for that bullshit.

Also I didn't know about Sylvan Scrying coming back to 10th; what do you mean about not being able to buy it anywhere?

Good God, I hope they check for that bullshit.
Apparently what the guys did was to swap carts whenever the TOs came to check. Honestly, why would you go to that much effort! Saving time by using PokeSav is one thing but breaking the rules of the game is another thing entirely.

Also I didn't know about Sylvan Scrying coming back to 10th; what do you mean about not being able to buy it anywhere?
Apparently they're sold out everywhere you look, they're real hot property! Which is odd, considering that the Urza lands are rotating out when Sylvan Scrying comes in.

Sorry for the late reply, but here is my report of the event.
---------------------------------------------------------

Well Well Well...
What a Great weekend, another fantastic event thanks to Nintendo Oz.

Fountain Gate: Day one
After getting there a little late, I snuck in at No.116, the max is 128, so people, get there early!
What I did notice straight away was most of the staff were all new, Kat was hanging around but not really working cause shes pregnant (Congrats KAT!!),
Got to see Calum for a short time which was cool, and Andrew from Nintendo dropped by for a look as well.
1 Big difference was that the Hosts, they were 2 new people, 1 was this lady I have never seen, but she did a great job.
And the other was someone you guys should all know very well, none other then Mr.Mario Idol himself Jamie aka Chronorox, he did a very awesome job, and was very knowledgeable, and helped out fans as much as he could.... Oh how cute we're the ladies helping out?... =P

This is still early on, alot more people came in after the parents brang them down to the Shopping Centre.
Image326.jpg

Brian aka Golden Phoenix was Numero Uno.

Julia Last years Champ and only Female Tour winner came down to try and make it 2 years in a row.
Image334.jpg

Ash also Champ from Last year who beat me by 2hp in that tour, but its all good cause I got my revenge!. I think he made top 32 this time around.
Image324.jpg

The Wii area was very popular all day.
Image340.jpg

How much does this guy look like Necrobat!? =P
Image333.jpg

There were alot of great players around, but there were also alot of young kids who came in with their favourite pokemon's, but even though most of them lost, they still had a lot of fun.

Alot of regulars were there as usual, but a whole lot of new faces around which was cool to see.
Not many of the old Poke tour people were there, Attila wanted his revenge, but he had to fly to Japan during the time the tour was on.
Now to answer some of your questions.

*There is 1 Plasma for 2 people to Vs on and the crowd can watch and scream, and cry!
*There is 5 DS's stations to battle on, so there is another 10 people batting at the same time.
*On the big screen, they can't see the bottom half of the screen, only the top half with the battle.
*Latias, and Wobbuffets are allowed

Alot of people missed out on a spot, so always come early people, there is a stand by list incase someone doesnt show up, but theres a chance, you wont get in on stand by.
Some very good matches to watch, alot of action on the main screen, plenty of people around all the players, so it got a little crowded.

First round:
Some tough battles going on, even in the first round, thanks to the no legendaries rule, there was a lot of variety, but there were also alot of dragons flying around, and plenty of Garchomp.
No real drama's here, most people were happy with their match ups, some people didn't know about latias and were kinda of surprised, but they got over it with some games of Mario Strikers which was very popular on the days, all day, non stop!.
I won my first game without too much trouble so that was all good.

After the first round it was Trivia round, and there was plenty of prizes to go around, as usual people crowed to the front, but that didnt help them too much, they went for the most EXCited and quickest people to respond by putting their hands up.
And short people didnt miss out either, they looked around every where to make sure people didnt miss out, that didnt stop people from jumping up and down though.
Some of the prizes:
DP DS holders
DVD Sets of the Show
The New Lucario Movie on DVD
Some Wii games like Cooking Mama, Shrek the 3rd and a few others.
Pokemon D/P Games
And lots of Pokemon Toys.
And D/P Pokedex Book, and Walkthrough Books.

Round Two:
A few upsets here, for the love of god people, never underestimate anyone!
I went in confident, and almost got my ass handed to me by this kid, it was a lucky escape for me.
Some others weren't so lucky though.
I beat Johnathon's friend in this round, Johnathon was a dude we met who had a team of Blissey, Botom and Something else.
He was a very good trainer, and I think made it to the top 16.

They had another Trivia Session around this time, which was another hit with the crowd.
After it they had a session for the parents, which they seemed to enjoy alot and win their kids some prizes at the same time, it involved the Touch Gen games, so bring your parents down for a chance for them to win you some prizes.

They also had the dress up comp, and some of the best entrants of the day, Team rocket! And they finally got Pikachu
Image331.jpg

Round Three:
I lost in this round, I was going to sweep the whole team with my main pokemon, but it got Destiny Bonded,a nd since the other 2 were poisoned, things just went down hill from there, I didnt make that mistake the next day.
Dekar got passed this round to make it into the top 16.

Round Four-Top 16:
Dekar was the only left in TEC still competing, I got out in the top 32, master top 64 I think
He got matched up against Julia (Last years Champ, and first girl to win a tour), this match went on for ages cause of the Blissey V Blissey, and I think it was the only match that EXCeeded the 10min time limit.
They checked who had the most health on all pokemon, then declared Julia the winner, no more Dekar today, nice work buddy, you did very well.

Julia and Dekar going head to head.
Image341.jpg

Top 8:
After the standard Picture time of the top 8, it was battle time!!
*Insert Battle music here*
I didnt have my video camera cause I lost the charger, so I didnt get any matches on tape, I think some people might of.
Julia ended up bowing out to Cats who some of you might know as the SSBM EXpert.

Julia and Cats head to head, and Julia's last battle for the day.
Image343.jpg

Top 4:
Some very EXCiting matches to watch, alot of close ones that could have gone either way.
Cats got through this round and got himself a stop in the finals.

Final Battle:
I missed parts of it due to... Stuff.... but I was there in time to see his Metagross EXplode in his opponents face to Secure the Championship.
I hope someone got it on tape, or maybe I can get cats to give me a report on what happened in that battle.
Awesome work to him on not just his pokemon, but the way he battled, some very nice predictions.
And well done to all the people who competed.

The top 2, Cats and.. Didn't get the other dudes name, but well done to him on getting this far.

End of the day, Dekar, Me and Chrono.

Fountain Gate: Day two *TEC Day*

Another day of waking up late and making my way to Fountain Gate which is like an Hour drive from my place, then the rainy weather made the trip even more interest, but enough about that, lets get to the good stuff.
Today I didnt line up straight away, I sat in the cafe and watched them line up as I trained up my pokemon in the last minute.
After I was happy with what I had, I got up to line up, I was about 4 places behind Dekar, and we were giving each other ****, saying.. "You shouldn't line up too close, you don't want to get eliminated 1st round" =P

Behind me was a day and his boy entering the comp, his son was very EXCited and couldn't wait to get in, he kept talking to me about his pokemon for the half hour we were lining up for, just cause he was behind me didn't mean we were going to battle each other.
They had this system where they just call out to anyone who hasn't played in the first round to come up and play, and they tick their name off in one book, then write down the name of the winners in the other.

Me waiting in Line.
Image350.jpg

I also got to meet Tak for the first time, Dekar was much nicer to him in Real life, then he was to him on the forums. =P

Heres the main man chrono doing his thing.
Image337.jpg

Round one:
I got matched up against some Kid who was Harry's brother, this is harry.

You might remember Him from most of the tours, he also sometimes flies over to NSW and enters in those tournaments.
I didn't know it was Harry's Brother till after his dad told me, and I felt bad for knocking him out so early, he did have a very nice Rhyperior who gave me some trouble though, well done to him.

Dekar got through this round quite easily too, and had a nice setup that was working well for him.
A few regulars also got pass first round, I dont think there was any major upsets in this round.
I think Gietz got passed this round... or Maybe not.

Gietz and Dekar going at it.
Image327.jpg

Thanks to the trivia round, Tak, Dekar and Gietz all walked away with prizes.
Image355.jpg

Round Two:
I got a great round here, I got to set up my team the way I wanted and it went perfectly, I wish all my matches were like this one, he was a good kid, and I thank him for the great game
Dekar still Kicking ass all the way, not too much trouble in this round for him.

We also got to meet Dale and Greg in this round, some of you might remember Dale as Last years Champ in NSW, the guy with the Sydney Swans top when he won.
He had some bad luck here and lost to a suspected Hacker, and wasn't too happy.
Dale knew his stuff and he knows that the outcome of the battle wasn't right, and I don't blame him, cause what happened didn't make any sense, oh well, couldn't do anything, cause it was a little hard to prove, but he got knocked out I think in the next round anyway.
Greg passed his match to make it into the top 32.

Greg, Wayne! and NSW Champ Dale on the right, great boys and helped with picking out the hackers.
Image365.jpg

Chrono During the Trivia time, getting the crown all EXCited to for some Prizes.
Image353.jpg

Some of the boys, from left to right, Gietz, Tak, Dekar and Chrono.
Image366.jpg

The guy that beat me (I need to get his name), KamiKazi, and Will who was a crowd favourite.
Image364.jpg

Round 3:
I got matched up with a regular who had a good counter for my team, and I went down in a Blaze of Glory, good work to him, he deserved the win, Poison and Protect is alittle annoying though. =P
Last years Champ Ash also bowed out in this round, not sure to who though.
Not sure if it was this round or the next that Greg (Dale's Friend) and Dekar went at it in an epic battle that could have gone either way.
Both of them had people in their corner cheering them on, it was great to watch even though it was not on the big screen.
Dekar ended up winning the match thanks to a bit of luck, skill and prediction.
Nice work on Greg for getting this far, he did awesome, and the best if not the only Kangaskhan there.

It was around this time we suspected this guy was using a team of pokemon who were hacked, cause some things didnt seem right, and it wasn't just the 2 out of 3 Shinies in his team, not to mention one of them was a Shiny Latias, now that is not common at all...
It took us a few rounds to prove it though, and thanks to the great work or Chrono, Cats, Dale, Chrono, me, this other dude who was like a human calculator, and some others they finally admitted they were hacked and were disqualified.
There was also a match stopped straight away after there was a Lv.50 Dragonite on the Main screen.

Lesson of the day.... Don't Cheat People!!

Not sure what happened in this round, I went to eat, but glad to see Dekar made it through to the top 8 for TEC.

Top 8:
Here are the top 8, only people I know are... Dekar, Marcus (Trading Card Game legend), Will (Afro), The guy that Beat me (With the long hair), and Acheront (Who I only knew it was him after I went on AN... SAY HI NEXT TIME FOOL!).
Image359.jpg

Top 8 getting ready to rumble.
Image357.jpg

There were some great matches, and I don't want to go into to much detail in case some of them are still going to battle at southland.
But then there was 2.

DEKAR v ACHERONT!:
This was a great match to watch, lots of highlights, man was dekar lucky he had Focus sash on his Gengar or what.
Then the one of Ache's Mons getting critically hit.
It was a good move putting bullet punch on the Metagross though, it came in handy.
The final two Mons came down to Ache's Starmie V Dekar's Blissey, and since Starmie had no Physical moves, it had to rely on its Surf attack and only hope for a Critical hit which it didnt get and slowly died to the posion making Dekar the Champ and TEC proud.
Nice work to both of you fella's, it was a great match to watch and funny when someone called out.. "Do a Barrel roll!".
Only way the Starmie could do a Battle Roll was if it was breed with a Fox McCloud. =P

Well thats it for Fountain Gate, I didn't have my camera so all these were taken with my Bro's phone, so no Vids either sorry.
So far, so good, everything has been going smoothly and I look forward to tomorrow, I hope you guys had fun in FG and today at Southland which I couldn't go to cause of work.

Nice work Chrono, doing a great job mate, and well done to the staff, the veterans and the new people, they did a fantastic job, even if they seemed to stress a little, not that I blame them. =P

If I can recommend one thing though is more room would be nice, Oh! and maybe some seats. X_^
Seeya guys tomorrow.

Southland Poke Tour: Day 2

Man, this is how I woke up today...

Last thing I remember was EV training at 4am in the morning, then next thing I know is its 6.30am, the PC is still on, Lights are on, I'm freezing, and my DS's Light is flashing red!
Lucky i woke up to, cause all that EV training would have been for nothing.
I saved then tried to get up but fell asleep again, next thing I know, its 8am and I am going to be late for the tour.
I get ready and hit the road, its freakin Freezing, windows are fogged up and its like driving blind... Lucky me there was plenty of traffic!

After about an Hour drive I get to Southland about 10mins after the tour starts, as soon as I walked in you could see the line was massive, I didnt think I made it in time and I was right..
My friend was at the front of the line and his Number was 86, so there was no chance I was going to get in, there was like 70-90 people in front of me, this day was busy as, plenty of people from the get go.

MASSIVE CROWDS, biggest day so far I reckon.
Image371.jpg

I felt bad for not making it in time, but who comes to the rescue?... None other then Rohan (Greenbay or BlackMamba), he just got the game and thought I would stand a better chance in the comp so he gave me his No. 111.
This is not the first time Rohan or his Mate Yohan have helped me out, I owe them alot, when I become famous I will repay them for it, I promise.

So it was on, I got my Number and was ready to go, I helped out Pyro get his Pokemon Leveled up in the last Minute, and they helped him pass the first round that went on forever.

A few familiar faces were here, and plenty on New people in the mix, Sharps, Pyro, Foolia, Zina + Friend, Fres and Conan, Adz, Leon, and Rohan all made a guest appearance.
Leon seems like a cool guy, and from what I hear has EXCeptional Jump Superstar $kills, we should talk more at the next tour, whenever that might be.

Leon and Rohan
Image369.jpg

Leon and Rohan going at it.

Pyro, Happy.
Image368.jpg

Pyro, slapped.
Image367.jpg

Sharpie, doing what she does best, slap people (Conan's friend) around in Tetris.
Image370.jpg

Round one:
Me and Pyro got into it both really nervous. me mostly, I dont know why, but I always get nervous at these events even if I don't show it that often.
I got matched up with this girl who was there over the last few days, but her pokemon were not Lv.50 and I felt bad, but did not go easy on her cause its pokemon, anything can happen.
In Pyro's match, it went on forever, Pyro forgot to put Toxic on his blissey, and cause of that it was a Recovery battle between Blissey and Latios, it seriously went on for like 15mins, but after Latios ran out of PP, Blissey did it in with some Ice-Beams, thank god that was over!
Right after that match Pyro taught his Blissey Toxic. =P

We hung around for the dress up comps to support Fress from Palgn, and we cheered as hard as we could, but to no avail, they choose the cute wittle kiddies. =P
Bad luck fress, you're a winner in our eyes.

Fress as Ash, and one of the wiinners dressed as Dawn from D/P.
Image373.jpg

Image372.jpg

Image377.jpg

After that we decided to go get some food, we went to subway, and Sharpie orders the Sub she thinks is the sub of the day, but forgets its Tuesday and gets the wrong one. X_^
The guy at the counter goes to his workmate, "this Chicken fillet sub is for the pokemaniac" and then asked me if my name was Trevor. =P

We took our food and went back to eat near the Poke area, me and Pyro decided to do our battle Vs each other in the 2nd round so we can get it over and done with and eat.

Round two:
EXC v Pyro: It was a good match, but thanks to this match it reminded me how useful Heracross really is, I ended up winning and we went to the cafe to eat our subs with the ladies Sharps and foolia, rohan came and joined us, then bought a hot dog so they didn't kick us out. =P

At the Cafe where I almost lost my brothers phone, came back and found it still on the floor.
Image380.jpg

The highlight of Round two was Will's Magikarp using Hyper Beam, then killing the Grachomp with an EXplosion!.
I turned to Pyro and asked..."Is.. that.. normal?..", and he replies.. "Yeah, i think you can breed it". Yeah right, its a magikarp. =P
It was fun to watch and the crowd went nuts watching the match.

Crowd going wild for Magikarp
Image376.jpg

Image374.jpg

Image375.jpg

If I win the next round, then it will be the furthest I have been in these Poke tours, both weekend events I was out in the 3rd round, I had a feeling today would be different.

Round three:
I got matched up with this guy who didn't have anything Super effective Vs me, and made my day a whole lot easier, it was a Sweep of his team, and the last easy match I would have on the day.
Another Highlight here was Johnathon's V Tim's Match, Tim's Shuckle gave people so much trouble it wasn't even funny, it would survive with like 4hpo, then rest, I think people were close to smashing the DS's. =P
The match EXCeeded the 10min limit, but since the outcome could not be determined they rematched on the Big Screen, and it was officially timed, but didn't really need to be since it didn't last that long this time around, they both changed their team alittle and Tim took the match.
Bad Luck Johnathon, see you at the next event, maybe Pokemon Battle Revolution?.. X_0

The match that went on forever thanks to Shuckle.
Image383.jpg

I finally made top 16, WoHooo!
It felt good knowing 1 more win and its photo shoot time!.

It was time for my match to make top 8, and it was a great match, he took out 2 of mine and it was down to Latios to finish off which it did very well, and thats why I gave it a Shmacko when we got home. =P

I got in the photo's... I got in the photo's... La la laaa la la.
We got on to the stage and they took a pic of us, I didn't get a pic today, cause I was up there with them, but nintendo and a few others did take the pic.
We had, Acheront, Me, Tim, the guy who came 2nd on the first day, Julia's Brother (I think), the mad scientist who was in the dress up comp, and 2 others.
Signed the consent form and went straight into battle.

I took on the mad Scientist, and I made a mistake that cost me the whole game, after my first pokemon went down to their Latios, I sent out Latios (Which was at 160 speed, but slower), it got 1HKO'd, I should have sent out my Choice Band Heracross which is all I had left that 1HKO his Latios, but then gotten put to sleep by the mad scientists Gengar and the match was over, 1 wrong move and that was it, oh well, thats pokemon, top 8 is great, especially with some of the talent that was there.

I would usually get a little upset with my self at this point, but I was happy with just being in the Photo shoot, its the highest I have been in a Pokemon Tour, Now I have been top 8 in the MKDS, Won the NSMB/MKDS, and now Top 8 in the Pokemon Event. X_^

I went to have a few games of MPH with Conan after this cause he had been asking me all day, and I kinda regret it now cause all it was, was a match of chasing the alt around, not fun fool, you made me miss acheront winning. X_;

I'm glad he did win though, he deserved the win after the hard work over the last few days, nice work buddy, and it was good to finally meet you, we'll talk more at the next event.
After I found out he won, I went to congratulate him but was told he had already left, Hang around people!!, enjoy the moment!!
Congrats Acheront!

So everyone started to head home, but then I got down on one knee grabbed sharpies hand and asked.. " Will you.... Play Daytona with me?" , then gave her $2, we ended up racing for the Pokedex Book I won for making top 8, if she wins, she could have it, but of course she did not, they don't call me Drift King Tonaka for no reason. =P
She almost did beat Rohan though, another few moere Seconds and she would have won.

We then headed off to the Air Hockey...
EXC v SHARPS:
She gets the first goal and I get worried, but after a little warming up, the puck was flying every where, and it went to 5-1 before she scored another, but wasn't enough, match ended 7-2 EXC, and Sharps having a sore arm.

Zina and Her friend were stuck on Point Blank, which her friend was very good at, she was.... not. =P
Dark Yoshi was kicking ass on the DDR section.

Then me and Sharps went to a Basketball Face off..
First Match: 20-21 Sharp wins, now this was alot of fun, but losing is not an option so the jacket came off.
Second Match: 27-23 EXC wins, here we go, thats more like it, then she asked for a tie breaker which was fine by me.
Tie Breaker: 35-19 EXC wins, I was...on...fire..., People were going crazy, I had them on their feet, I did it for them!, the Fans!
But the highlight wasn't winning this basketball shoot out, or making top 8 today, it was Sharpies Basketball accident. XD... Ahhh good times.. good timmmmesss...
*Wipes Tear*

Anyways, time to say goodbye, everyone was heading off, and it was the end of another great Victorian Tour held by the Great People of Nintendo Australia, and the good folks at Showtime who help them out.
Well done to Chrono for another great day of MC'ing, and taking care of any problems that came up on the day, kept your cool, stayed calm, and got much respect for it, good work buddy.
All the staff from Showtime did a great job, and I would like to recommend them again, they made the day more enjoyable, good luck to all of them, and I hope to see them all again sometime in the future, and bring us Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrramon!!
And thanks to the Girl in charge of the Wii's who let us have one last game of Wii Tennis, I would like to mention the scores between me and Sharps, but there is no time left, Rohan Beat her! (Thought I would throw that in).

The great Staff from Showtime who represented Nintendo very well, I highly recommend me them all, they are very friendly and try to help any way they can.

Nice to see all you guys again, and can't wait to see you all in the near future, what do you guys thinking?... SSBB?, PBR?, Mario Strikers?....
Who knows, but whatever it is, we'll be there.
TEC4Lyfe, pCe out.

Wow great report, very intersting. I had no idea how big this event was, although the one I'm going to on Tuesday (tomorrow) probably wont be quite as big. Do you have any advice or tips for the event? Does actuaally finish at 4?

Is anyone else going to the Adelaide one tomorrow?

Nice, I work at Village Cinemas fountain gate and was SOOOO cut that I couldnt participate in the Fountain Gate one. Each day I started at like 9am, and worked till 5pm.
But Its pretty funny coz i recognise a few people from those photos who either came into work that day or tend to come in at some time or another.

My team is nearly done anyway, considering i didnt pre order Diamond i wouldnt have stood a chance against anyone really. Hopefully they do another tour next year and I can participate on this one.

Chrono was actually quite helpful when I asked him a few questions, I didnt actually realise that all of these Nintendo Staff were closet pokemaniacs!!

Anyway, its on like Donkey Kong next year if there is a connection tour, so be prepared to face me then!

EDIT: and just in case anyone was wondering, they had Quick Balls as the design for Day 2: Fountain Gate

Great post, awesome write-up. Also, I hear Australian girls dig American accents, so I REALLY need to go to the next AUS poketourney, those girls are pretty damn cute!

Alright, this is my attempt at a review of the Pokemon Tour tournament which occurred at Westfield Marion Shopping Center, Adelaide on June 10th. It’s probably nowhere near as good as EXC355UM's review and contains no pictures but I will try anyway.

The day began at 7am with me making final alterations to my team. I badly needed an Expert Belt but my Internet wasn’t working and Wifi was impossible. Therefore I had to leave for the tournament with below par items like sitrus berry and razor claw, things weren’t looking good already.

I arrived at the location around the start time, and was surprised to see almost 100 people already there. Luckily I got a spot in the tournament and entered the arena. There was about a one hour wait while the first 80 people battled so I took some time to look at the Pokemon on the big screen. Mesprit was very common, probably due to it already being at level 50 when caught by the people who only had 2 weeks to prepare. There were also several Garchomp, Salamence and Gyarados around. Finally it was time for me to battle.

Round 1

They don’t have a structured bracket system so I grabbed a random kid I met in the line and we began the battle. I could tell he wasn’t too experienced and he had only had the game for 2 weeks so I wasn’t surprised when I swept his team with my Gyarados.

The next hour was wasted waiting for the next round to begin and it also involved the first trivia give away. There were some fairly decent stuff up for grabs but I didn’t get anything.

Round 2

I was matched up against a women who started off with Lanturn. This forced me to switch out my Gyarados for Cresselia and so began a massive stall war. My Cresselia would rest when it reached low health, and Ice Beam did nothing to Lanturn. Eventually she switched to Flygon, which I froze then knocked out, then Swampert, which was also frozen and disposed of. By the time Cresselia was beaten, Yanmega was able to finish off Lanturn with one air slash.

Round 3

This round began almost immediately after the last and I sent out my Gyarados to a Zangoose. I DDed and he SDed on the first turn, then I KOed his Zangoose with waterfall. His next Pogey, Garchomp was killed with one Ice Fang, and Dusknoir was promptly killed with 2 waterfalls.

Another trivia round followed by a boring Touch Generations competition. I guess thy have to cater for non Pokemon fans.

Round 4

Gyarados again proved its worth by sweeping the first two members of this team. Not however, before his Bronzing got a Trick Room off. This meant Magmortar attacked before Gyarados, and Koed it with Thunderbolt. Cresselia again caused a long battle with its pathetic Ice Beam and rest, but finally Magmortar was killed after the 10th or so Beam.

Final 8

Ah, the final 8. After the photo I was paired of with someone I had met on the day. He was pretty cocky and after my Gyarados and his Salamence Intimidated each other, I switched to Cress. He knew about Ice Beam but surprisingly switched to Garchomp. After an almost OHKO on him, he used Crunch, which did surprisingly little to Cress. I finished the Garchomp off, and he sent out Salamence again. A few more Ice Beams killed it, and he sent out Starmie. He managed to take down Cress, so I sent out Yanmega. After a protect and speed boost, I was faster than it, and used Shadow Ball but it wasn’t enough to finish off the Starmie. I wass very worried at this point, duue to Starmie knowing BoltBeam, I was pleasantly surprised when it used Surf, and left me with ~20 HP. One more Shadow Ball finished it off and I moved into the top 4.

Final Four vs PokeRat

[Instantly worried when he sent out a Porygon Z to my Gyarados. I switched straight to Cress, and he then switched to Togekiss. After paralyzing it, Cresselia and Togekiss were in a struggle to KO each other before a healing move kicked in, e.g., rest or wish. Eventually he switched out Togekiss for Wobuffet, and encored Cress to death. Yanmega came out and finished off Wobuffet, then Porygon Z returned. I knew I was definitely in trouble but I used Air Slash anyway, praying for a Flinch. It didn’t and Porygon Z continued to kill both Yanmega and Gyarados in one hit each. I was out.

Feeling a little empty after being so close to the special DS Lite, I watched the final.

Final PokeRat vs some girl

Well the final was a piece of rubbish. After watching the girls previous battle and seeing the amount of hax she had with her biting Crobat, it was good to see Pokerat’s Porygon sweep each of her Pokemon in one hit each. It was really annoying because I could tell if I beat PokeRat, this girl would have been a piece of cake.

So the tournament in general was run pretty well but with a lot of wasted time between rounds, it really dragged out. For people still to play in these things, I suggest making sure you can cover dragons, because there is a fair amount of them. I didn’t face any Blissey although I did see some around, and have a super effective attack for the bloody Wobbuffets.

Props
-Final Four finish, I didn’t expect it, I’m very new to battling.
-The hosts, especially Cronos. He knew his stuff.
-All three of my Pogeys performed well

Slops
-so close yet so far, a focus sash would have saved me.
-someone getting to the final who looked like she had no idea about Evs, or even competitive movesets
-3rd place prize, nothing too great at all.

Well, there it is. I’m not sure if something like this actually interests you guys, as it looks to me like a wall of text, but I had fun writing it anyway. The Adelaide tourney was probably less competitive than most others, but it had its fair share of good players. Good luck to you other Aussies.

Thanks guys, appreciate it, it was heaps of fun.
Sklez, it should finish on time, unless something major happens.
DM come down for the next one, I'm sure the chicks would dig your accent. =P

There were Latis there, but I never faced one. I don't think there was a single Lati in the final eight. People's teams were mostly varied. I realised after the event that I had a major electric weakness, but no one was able to take advantage of that until the semis. If I had faced a strong electric like Electivire I could have been out in the first round. With 3v3 it all depends on luck and whether you come up against a team you have an advantage against.
