I was wondering if someone could help me with breeding for a Hidden Power Fire Roserade. I as reading the guide when I came across this:

For max base power (70) hidden power FIRE, besides getting one of the options A)-D), you will need the exact IVs of HP, attack and defense to be one of these:
31/30, 27/26, 23/22, 19/18, 15/14, 11/10, 7/6, 3/2

I don't really understand the last part really with all those number? Can someone help explain this to me in simpler terms?

It means that HP, ATK, and DEF IV's must be one of those. For example, you need one of the options A-D, but HP, attack, and defense can only be those numbers, meaning if you have 29, 28, 25, 24, 21, 20, 17, 16, you get the point.

Couple of questions:

1) How much of a boost do pokemon get exactly for each stage of a buff, like Howl or Defense Curl or something. Is it 1.5x bonus?

2) How do you effectively use Substitute?

2) How do you effectively use Substitute?

1) It's a .5 boost from the original stat.

2) A lot of ways, Sub-passing (Baton Pass), Status Absorb (Only for some, iirc), Sub-Punching (Focus Punch), Block Super Effective hits (25% is a lot less than a potential KO in my book), hide behind and status other stuff (This means you Magnezone)

Its still not really understanding to me. Maybe if you can show me a couple of examples, I might be able to understand more. Thanks!

Yeah, sure.

The main cause for HP Fire is 30 Spd and S. Atk, and Max S. Def IV's.

Now, there's the IV for HP, Atk, and Def left.

Of those three remaining stats, they must be one of these numbers: 31/30, 27/26, 23/22, 19/18, 15/14, 11/10, 7/6, 3/2

If the three numbers aren't one of those, then the Hidden Power will be something totally different, or weaker than what you want it to be.

So for HP, Attack, and Defense, it has to be any of those numbers above?

Not quite sure. I'd test it on an HP Calculator first for combinations. Just checked it on Serebii, and 30 HP, but 31 Atk and Def work, but the 31 HP doesn't. I'd check it first.

Alright. Thanks. I found different combinations of getting a HP Fire 70 from Metakid. I should of thought about that earlier. Thanks.

Trying to make sense about how much defense is really worth.

With everything neutral.
How much HP does 1 pt of defense protect against from a regular neutral attack?

Try to get one on the GTS. Not everybody asks for Dialgas/Palkias (I got mine for a Delcatty).

OR you can jsut go to Mt. Coronet. I forgot which floor, but I know its the part of the cave where its foggy. The fastest way to get there is by going to Celestic town and go all the way to the left. Once you get inside the cave, go all the way to the top and that's where it should be around. I think you might need Rock Smash and Strength. Iono. I know you need at least one of the HMs though.

Except for the fact that only 4 (was it six?) tiles in the whole LAKE contain Feebas. That's quite a bit of fishing.

I'd try getting one in a trade if I were you.
