[QC Rejected] Leavanny

542.gif

Remember me, guys?

[Pros]

Access to Sticky Web, one of the best moves in the game

Has Chlorophyll to abuse sun

Decent STABs and support moves let it run both offensive and support sets

[Cons]

Sun only lasts for 5-8 turns, meaning less time to use Chlorophyll

Fairly low stats, not much bulk

Faces stiff competition from Galvantula and Smeargle

[Checks and Counters]

This may just be me, but I really don't think Leavanny is at all viable. Even with Sticky Web, Leavanny still suffers from an incredible number of problems. First off, Leavanny has really bad coverage; Bug / Grass coverage is quite horrible to tbh, I don't think anyone wants to give a 100% free switch-in to Scizor and Aegislash (and Talonflame too, although he destroys Leavanny anyways), and overall its bad coverage makes it a bad Pokemon. Its defensive typing is also really bad, it has so many weaknesses; Greninja and Gengar have access to Ice Beam and Sludge Bomb, respectively, which wrecks Leavanny, and everyone has some way to hit Leavanny really hard because it has so many weaknesses. It doesn't help that Leavanny isn't very bulky either, so it has a hard time getting anything done.

Yes, I get it has Sticky Web, but that's not enough to warrant use over other bugs such as Galvantula and Scolipede, of which have other traits that make them viable. Leavanny is just bad imo.

First of all, Scolipede doesn't get Sticky Web, and second of all, access to Heal Bell automatically gives it an advantage over Galvantula. It may remain a niche pokemon, but it isn't worthless, especially considering that no one knows that it gets Sticky Web yet.

And with mega zard y getting drought chlorophyll will have some benefit if you double switch or use a slow u turn to get this in.

Running a support set with Choice Scarf in a pokemon weak to stealth rock looks like a really bad idea you can say that you have synthesis for that but then you are forced out fearing something setting up on you the same can be said of heal bell every time you choose to "support" you are forced out, not a rapid spinner or a defoger (removing your own web) will justify the among of support this set needs I am pretty sure that a cleric running choice scarf is a bad idea, not to mention even with max defenses you are really reallly frail, this set is an invitation to talonflame to come in set up sword dance and demolish you, finally you are using chlorophyll and to use it you have to eat really strong fire type moves to which you are already weak.

People have known Leavanny gets sticky web it has been mentioned several times in the sticky web thread, with very good set posted there, I am really looking forward for a niche for Leavanny but this set is not the answer Leavanny's fans have waited

I'm not convinced Leavanny needs an OU analysis. Sure, Sticky Web is pretty nice, but it's not this overpowered move that everything that gets it needs to be used in OU. Galvantula and Smeargle will always be better choices unless proven otherwise. For now, I'm leaning towards a rejection.

If it got Synthesis and Heal Bell it could be worth a shot as a defensive Sticky Web user, but currently i see zero reason to use it over Galvantula.

QC Rejected 1/3

It doesn't get Heal Bell, Knock Off or Synthesis in Gev VI currently.

If you really want to use it something like

name: Sticky Web Passer
move 1: Sticky Web
move 2: Swords Dance / Agility
move 3: Leaf Blade
move 4: Baton Pass
ability: Overcoat
item: Focus Sash
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly

Makes way more sense. It's still outclassed by both Galvantula and Scolipede performing it's individual niches, but it distinguishes itself by being able to do both at once -Not necessarily, doing them well mind you- which really is the only reason I'd see for using it right now. You set up web against a team it's useful against, then either pass right out just to ensure whatever comes in does so freely, or try to set-up if the situation allows it. Alternatively if the enemy team isn't particularly vulnerable to web, try to set-up a pass right away.

I really dunno why you'd use it though, outside of really detesting Galvantula and Smeargle or something

By the way, Sticky Web + Heal Bell would be impossible even with Pokébank, since Sticky Web is a level-up move only for Sewaddle who can't learn Heal Bell via tutor. Sticky Web + Synthesis would be fine, though.
