First Competitive team (since plain earthquake isn't enough anymore)

This is my first time making a team for competitive play.
So I hope you guys can help me fill in the gaps :3
I also am still looking for nicknames for my pokemon, I love references btw.
So if you know any good or funny nicknames be sure to post them :p
My worst idea so far was to just nickname them all Magicarp, but then i realised people wont see the name when you switch most of the time so yeah xD

PS.
The person who helped me out "the most" will get a pokemon named after his forum name :3!

Azumarill

EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Nature: Adamant
Item: Sitrus berry/Choice band (if ill go for smeargle)
Ability: Huge Power
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Superpower
- belly drum (if i'll go for for smeargle then this will be return instead)

I choose her because she is really powerful and with the new fairy type she's really good with new resistances.
Just basically switch in for the kill build.
With a belly drum off the bat she will turn into an Egyptian god card from the yugioh series. Or according to the BYWD discription "This monster of destruction is virtually unstoppable. few have survived to tell the tale." The only problem is that i dont like to be stuck in one move (since i some people told me you lose all powerups if you switch out) and i dont like to start with 50% health cause of belly drum, the sitrus berry helps however it wont start at maximum. So smeargle is a viable option, inb4 people start to get buthurt about smeargles weak stats look at the end of this topic i put him there if i would have him in my team.
----------------------------------------------------

Forretress

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Nature: Relaxed
Item: custap berry
Ability: sturdy
- Stealth rock
- Spikes
- volt-switch
- Rapid Spin

Forretress will be my entry hazard pokemon and will also have the roll of removing them on my own field if my enemy tries to set them up on me. I switched explosion out for volt-switch so i can get that safety switch so he wont die that much. At first i had explosion so if it would come down to the red health status i could just go full trotle and take them with him to the grave.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gengar

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
Item: Gengarite/Black sludge
Ability: Levitate/Shadow Tag
- Shadow Ball
- Disable
- Substitute
- Focus Blast

I am going for gengarite to switch in with an auto mean look to obliterate the pokemon I'm switching into in.
I choose for Disable to pretty much to cripple ANY choice item users.
Disable will force the choice item pokemon into struggle. Struggle won't effect a Gengar because of his Ghost typing and Mega Gengar will make it impossible to switch to another pokemon :3 so he'll real in an easy win. And he will have finished them off before disable get lifted from their attack.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Umbreon

EVs: 252 SpD / 252 Def / 4 HP
Nature: Calm
Item: Left Overs
Ability: synchronize
- Foul play
- Wish
- Toxic
- Protect

Umbreons main roll will be taking care of really strong pokemon, his main move routine will consist of using toxic, followed by (Can be wish too, depending on first hit), protect and then foul play if the enemy is a normal attacker. Umbreon has some really nice SpD stat so he will become my main wall pokemon. I am not sure about the EVs though, this is my choice but im not sure if he will have enough HP to function as a propper wall. I am still breeding for the corresponding IVs on that matter. My real concern is keeping the HP of Umbreon above 50% this is why i added wish to his movepool, with this i am also able to pass it on to for example my Azumarill when she gets in a tight position or to get fortress back up on his feet/shell.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chandelure

EVs: 120 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD / 128 Spe
Nature: Timid
Item: Choice specs
Ability: infiltrator
- Shadow Ball
- Fire Blast
- Energy Ball/Hex
- Will-o-Wisp

This will be my defense vanisher, because of h amazing ability he will get around substitute and protect so a lot of teams that are substitute depended will crumble apart. With choice specs he will get an insane amount of special attack which will most likely finish of most pokemon if Azumarill gets taken down. Like i said earlier about substitute, i think my team (especially azumarill) will have a really hard time to get around pokemon using substitute, with him i will be able to get rid of them, since they will already have 25% damage from the substitute (not counting the hp restore items for now) and he should be able to get a nice attack off on them which will habe a high chance to knock them over.Chandelure will also have the roll of defending against taunt so my Foretress won't get screwed over by a move. A lot of people suggested i should go for Gyroball (which fits ferrothorn much more IMO) but since Foretress wont be a heavy hitter in my team rather have him faster to be able to put down the last line of entry hazards or be able to quickle volt switch out.
--------------------------------------------–--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Venusaur
EVs
: 72 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 180 Spe
Nature: Timid
Item: Black sludge/venusaurite (if im not going for mega gengar)
Ability: Chlorophyll
- Solarbeam
- Sunny day
- Sludge Bomb
- Sleep Powder

I wasn't sure about him but, I went for sunny day to double his speed and for instant Solarbeam I might change sludge mob for a healing move but not sure yet. What i dont know is when venus mega evolves will he still keep his chlorphyll ability or will this changed to thickfat? (still have to test this out, havent been able to find a chlorophyll ivysaur yet >_<)
I might also completely remove him from the team and put a baton passer in my team. If ill go for a baton passer ( i am not sure yet) then ill switch out venusaur for him and this will be his stats:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Smeargle

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
Item: Focus sash
Ability: own tempo
- Baton Pass
- Spore
- Substitute/Wish
- Belly Drum
he will mainly be batonpassing belly drum to Azumarill so she is able to OHKO most tanks. So the moment i switch him in he will use spore to put opponent to sleep and then they will either switch (hence the insomnia/sleep heal berries) or stay on the field and wait for a lucky wake up. I will be able to sut up belly drum and baton pass to azumarill

You're really gonna want to expand upon those descriptions or the mods will lock this post.

Now on to the critiques. First, you might want to change Explosion on your Forretress to Volt Switch. As he's your hazard remover, you probably don't want to kill him off voluntarily. The Custap Berry is viable, but I still prefer Leftovers since it's very reliable HP recovery. Second, if you plan in using this team in the OU tier, Gengarite has been banned, so you'll need to change it. I'd recommend a Focus Sash so he doesn't die immediately if your opponent uses a coverage move that you didn't expect. As for Azumarill, I'm a huge proponent of Belly Drum and Sitrus Berry. Now this might not be your favorite tactic, but after Belly Drum, Azumarill can take out so many defensive walls. Here's some calculations if you are interested.

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 754-888 (214.2 - 252.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(754, 762, 772, 780, 790, 798, 808, 816, 824, 834, 842, 852, 860, 870, 878, 888)
+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 2300-2708 (322.1 - 379.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(2300, 2328, 2354, 2382, 2410, 2436, 2464, 2490, 2518, 2544, 2572, 2598, 2626, 2652, 2680, 2708)
+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aggron: 300-354 (87.2 - 102.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
(300, 302, 306, 308, 314, 318, 320, 324, 326, 330, 336, 338, 342, 344, 348, 354)

And finally for Umbreon, I'd recommend a 252 Def/ 252 SpD/ 4 HP spread instead so it can function as a mixed wall rather than just a special wall

Yeah I was planning on getting a belly drum baton passer (smeargle with focus sash and spore) so azumarill won't get 50% damage when I begin sweeping! ofc there is the chance smeargle will fail, but if uses I gotta live with that flaw.

And for the umbreon, that was my original plan but people told me to only choose one defense stat and max HP, so I am glad to hear I can just go with my original EV plan c:

The Gengarite NOOOOOoooooOoooooOooo
Gengar is my fave pokemon and I'm pretty sad to see his mega evolution banned from tourney plays (there goes my struggle lock) I'll still be making him for non tourney play though *insert evil laugh*

I knew azumarill was scary when bellydrummed, but to OHKO those beasts is even beyond my imagination.

Hey there, I spotted a few things.

Forretress: You may not want to use Explosion as your only attacking move, as priority Taunt is a real issue, forcing you to switch out. Running Gyro Ball is a much better choice, as you get the ability to attack in the face of taunt, and it takes advantage of his low Speed.

Gengar: In my opinion, get rid of his mega. You could utilize it a bit better on Venusaur, and most people predict the Gengar, so they will probably predict the Mega, and use EQ which is a OHKO. A set like this would function a bit better:

Gengar @ Black Sludge
252 SAtk/252 Speed/4 HP
Quirky/Modest
Ability: Levitate
-Focus Blast
-Dazzling Gleam/Sludge Bomb
-Shadow Ball
-Dark Pulse/Psychic

Umbreon:
And finally for Umbreon, I'd recommend a 252 Def/ 252 SpD/ 4 HP spread instead so it can function as a mixed wall rather than just a special wall

This. Also, Substitute may work as a better choice over Wish, unless you plan on Passing it.

Chandelure: Only thing I really would say here would be to switch Energy Ball for Focus Blast or Dark Pulse. Also, if you plan on using Burn on most opponents, Hex may be a feasible substitute for Shadow Ball.

Venusaur: Give this guy Venusaurite on something like this:

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
252 HP/160 SAtk/96 SDef
Calm/Modest
Ability:Chlorophyll
-Sludge Bomb
-Sunny Day/Hidden Power Ice
-Solar Beam/Giga Drain
-Sleep Powder/Toxic

Should be obvious what this does. If you choose Sunny Day, choose Solar Beam, if not, choose Giga Drain. It's really your choice between Sleep Powder and Toxic.

Hope I could help!

Alright topic got unlocked and i added some of the changes you guys suggested. So how is my team if it'll go like this?

A few more issues, some I have already covered, but I will go over them again, mainly for the last two Pokémon.

For Chandelure, you are going to want to run 252 SAtk/252 Spd/4 HP. 60/90/90 Defences aren't that great, and getting a burn in on a Dragonite or a Tyranitar may be your saving grace, as you have 5 very common weaknesses. Most notably Ground-Type and Rock-Type making you really susceptible to the very common StoneQuake combo.

For both Venusaur and Gengar, you need to choose what you are running, as both of them NEED to be played differently based on their ability and held item. I will add in common sets for both of them.

If you do choose to add in Smeargle, that is NOT a good set to be running. Belly Drum takes out 1/2 of your health completely negating your Focus Sash, and chances are you won't survive another hit, much less get a Baton Pass off. Really the only set you should be running with Smeargle is this, unless you have some odd niche set that only works with your team.

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
252 HP/252 Speed/4 Atk or 252 HP/252 Speed/4 SAtk
Jolly or
-Stealth Rocks
-Spore
-Priority Move
-Whirlwind/Explosion/Magic Coat

Hope I could help!

I recommend putting Night Shade on Chandelure and Gengar, since their goals are to hit fast and hard. (This is assuming you'll be playing at Lvl 100) It deals a fixed 100 base damage, which means it will bypass your opponents stat boost, if any, and IMO is more useful than a chance at a SDef drop.

I've never understood why people always want to use Shadow Ball...

Also, keep Energy Ball on Chandelre, it'll allow you to hit water types on the switch. Hex just doesn't cut it.

It's because Shadow Ball gets boosted by STAB, stat boosts, and it can be super effective. Night Shade doesn't get any of these benefits.

Honestly, I had thought you were at least a semi-intelligent poster given that your spreads for Greninja were, while not what I would consider ideal, at least well thought out. Are you trolling?

If your goal is to hit fast and hard, Night shade is the LAST move you want to use. 3HKOing the metagame at best is not hitting 'hard'. Anything that boosts defence is not going to be hit meaningfully hard with Nightshade and will just Softboiled, recover, roost etc. off the damage.

Wow i complletely forgot that combo >_>, I am figuring out a way to deal with this . Atm i am thinking about using Aegislash
681.png
with his SpDefense and Defense being 150 and swapping this with his ablity to his SpAttack and Attack is insane, but i am still thinking this over. thanks for all the help guys, i really appreciate it :D
