Keldeo(Water/Fighting)

Base Stats:91 HP/72 Atk/90 Def/129 Sp.atk/90 Sp.def/108 Spd

Overview

Keldeo is arguably said to be better than the scary terrakion. With hydro pump and scared sword, two great stabs, keldeo is likely to take down every thing in a few hits.Sacred Sword also troubles blissey who otherwise laughs at keldeo.129 Sp.atk is something to be scared and 108 spd is higher than average.Calm Mind raises it's special stats making keldeo hit like a truck and tank special hits.

However, the main problem it has is it's pathetic special movepool. It's movepool only has icy wind, hydro pump, sacred sword, hidden power and calm mind. It's stabs are resisted by many many pokes namely starmie, dragonite, jellicent, lati twins, celebi, toxicroak(With dry skin),mega venusaur and some other lower tier pokes. It's pathetic movepool makes it hard to scarfed which otherwise suits keldeo well. The addition of fairy types and the nerf of hidden power lowers keldeo's usage. This doesn't mean keldeo is bad and don't understimated it's power. When it's counters and checks are down, prepare for a nightmare,

Calm Sweeper

-Move 1:Calm Mind
-Move 2:Hydro Pump
-Move 3:Secret Sword
-Move 4: Hidden Power(Ghost)/Icy Wind
Item:Leftovers
Ability:Justifed
Modest Nature
EVS:252 Sp.atk,252 HP,4 Def
This set is somewhat focuses on being a bulky sweeper.Calm Mind can raise it's special stats and making it's special stats sky high.Hydro Pump's BP is 120 and can remove every poke which hydro pump is neutral in a few hits.Secret Sword supports keldeo to not be walled by blissey and fighting is also a great stab.Hidden Power(Ghost) for jellicent, celebi, lati twins, starmie and some other.Icy Wind lowers the foe's spd and can remove other threats like salamence, dragonite, celebi, lati tiwns and some other. With pokes's spd being around it using chocie scarf, there's no way to use 252 Spd EVs.Leftovers help it for survivalty. This set focuses n it's average defenses and specail attack making keldeo a bit bulky.

Choice Specs

-Move 1:Hydro Pump
-Move 2:Secret Sword
-Move 3:Hidden Power(Ghost)
-Move 4:Icy WInd/HP ice
Item:Choice Specs
Ability:Justifed
Timid nature
EVS:252 Sp.atk,252 Spd,4 HP
I don't know if this set will work but i'll said it out anyway.Hydro Pump and secret sword are primary stab moves having thier own advantages.HP Ghost+Icy Wind/HP ice gets most counters and punishes the ultimate counters.

Other options
Roar can be used for keldeo as it is a great move but keldeo doesn't have enough bulk and has many weakness for it.Lack of recovery too.
Physical set can also be used for it's great movepool+Swords Dannce but you're be wasting a turn, can be ignored by unaware(though it's not common)and spend a moveslot. It's almost useless for having a physical set.
Aqua Jet has priorty which hit just a little but you're still doing damage.
Others are not worth mentioning.

Checks and Counters
Unfortunately, many. It's water+fighting combo is resisted by so many pokemons like jellicent, dragonite, celebi, slowbro, starmie, azumarill, toxicroak, mega veusaur and lati twins
However,HP Ghost and icy wind takes out much of it's check and counters. This leaves a few pokemons which are threats for it.

Mega Venusaur is the main threat it has. It's icy wind/HP Ice is neutral and all of it's attacks when neutral is useless against the bulky grass. It's stab giga drain can wear keldeo easily and quickly.
Azumarill also resist every move it has too except HP ghost which is useless. It's stab play rough or +6 aqua jet are very scary for keldeo.
Latios and latias though suffers HP ghost or icy wind/HP Ice,their psychic can take keldeo in a few hits if keldeo has no calm mind. But with +2 calm mind, latios and latias can't take HP Ghost and HP ice anymore.
Trevenant also immune sacred sword and laughs hydro pump.Though,HP Ghost does quite damage to it,horn leech can restore some health and SE hit it.
Togekiss though scares hydro pump, after t-wave it can SE flinch keldeo.
Starmie scares HP ghost but starmie's psychic hits hard for keldeo if calm mind is not in play.
D-nite bulky version doesn't fear spd lost from icy wind and can T-Wave it.Sweeper version is useless thanks to icy wind.
All the above are the best checks i can think.

Call me crazy but without rain I think SubCM and Specs are Keldeo's only real threatening sets anymore. The presence of Talonflame and Mega-Pinsir kinda make it hard to run Keldeo when there are so many better water types available, especially since fighting isn't as great of an attacking type as it used to be. Honestly I think Greninja just does Keldeo's job better, it may be a bit weaker but it has a much better movepool and an ability that's actually useful.

Maybe you're right. But i have a keldeo in my team and i think it does well than greninja. However,i don't think both of them are amazing, just good.Talonflame oh i forget it sure a big giant pain. But i have never fought mega-pinsir so idk about it.

Its definitely still good, I just feel like they're are better things around. Two really strong and common pokemon with flying priority kind of take away its biggest draw which is the 108 speed tier, and as you mentioned it just has an awful movepool which makes it really predictable. I guess to me there are just other things that can do its job better this gen.

Keldeo is ok, I mean, Talonflame is a huge counter and Aegislash handles it well. Mega Venusaur completely shits on it. It's not gonna be UU, but I don't think it was as threatening as last generation honestly.

(P.S. PLEASE use spaces after your commas / periods, it bothers me tbh)

Keldeo is actually currently in UU right now, where the choice sets are the best, as Calm mind is done better by Manaphy IMO. That being said, no Talonflame makes Keldeos job a lot easier.

Talonflame is definitely not a counter. I cant switch into Keldeo's Hydro Pump or take it when it gets in. That said Talonflame can revenge kill it with priority Brave Bird so it makes a decent check. Aegislash is 3HKO'd by Hydro Pump on it's Shield Forme but at +2 it can ohko with Shadow Sneak after Stealth Rock so yes, it can handle it well.... for one switch in if Keldeo's using Hydro Pump.

On my own opinion of Keldeo though, it will remain a Solid OU player but between the rain nerf and the 6th gen changes in general, it's not gonna be as good as it was in 5th gen.

That's true, but not much can anyways, but Keldeo can't touch Talonflame if it is 1v1.

Keldeo is still really good. I think sub/CM is the best set. Run 252 SpA/252+ speed, not that shit spread in the OP. Keldeo's speed is way more important for survival than any HP EVs.

It's not hard to find something to set up on. With sub, Talonflame can only revenge you, and only if your sub is down. You can get past any mega Venusaurs that lack both giga drain and roar (rare but possible), and the general lack of Celebis, Latias and Jellicents in OU really makes this set shine. You need a solid answer for Latios though. That makes Tyranitar almost a must. Swords dance Aegislash can be a problem as well although +1 surf is a 2hko with leftovers. Unfortunately, king's shield + leftovers recovery can turn that 2hko into a 3hko, so get a little prior damage on the sword before you set up.

Yeah why on earth would someone use Sacred Sword of of a negative nature base 72 Attack with no investment, OP should change Sacred Sword to Secret Sword on all sets.

Keldeo is still very good in OU today. Although it is not as good as it was before due to the weather nerf, and cuz it's threatened by Talonflame and Mega Pinsir, Keldeo can still do damage with base 129 spA and base 108 speed!! and lol Keldeo will not go to UU.

Keldeo is still a great Pokémon and not to be underestimated this gen just because the generation shift wasn't kind to it. TTar and Keldeo combination is still as deadly as ever with TTar pursuit trapping many of Keldeo's counters. Keldeo's CM set is alright but due its shallow move pool your probably better off running Sub over a coverage move to make it harder for Talonflame and MPinsir to revenge you. A Scarf set is still viable and can make a great revenge killer. Also on the Specs set Scald should be a move option over either HP or Icy Wind. Its a reliable 100% accurate Stab move and with Surf's BP nerf almost completely outclasses it. The burn Chance is also handy on a many Pokémon that like to switch on Kedleo. Azumarill and Dnite are crippled by it and Pokémon like MVenusuar and Latias don't appreciate the residual damage.

Your choice specs Keldeo should really have hydro pump/ secret sword/ surf/ coverage move. Surf is really useful as it still hits like a truck but has better accuracy. Its more powerful than scald, which is really not worth it for such an offensive pokemon. Keldeo can't take a whole lot of abuse, and that 10 BP on surf still means a lot. Hidden power ghost is really not that useful anymore, as its now 60 BP, and doesn't even come close two 2HKOing SpD Jellicent, the whole reason for running that move anyways.

Also talonflame isn't that big of a problem if you pair keldeo with choice band tyranitar. Band tyranitar can switch into anything talonflame can do (bar U-turn) and OHKO when it u-turns or switches out.

Honestly none of these moves are worth mentioning at all as other options.

Keldeo is so criminally underused (both figuratively and literally) right now. There are very, very few teams in the current metagame that aren't horrendously weak to Specs Keldeo, especially with most of its counters (Celebi, Tentacruel, Jellicent, Toxicroak, etc) being much rarer in OU than in Gen V. The only good switch-ins to it that still have a solid amount of usage are Latios, Latias, Azumarill, and Mega Venusaur. On a lot of offensive teams, the only bulky Water resist is Rotom-Wash, which is cleanly 2HKOed by Specs Secret Sword. Yes, it's easily revenged by Talonflame, but it's not like that makes a Pokemon bad in the slightest (*cough, cough, Genesect). Keldeo is far and away one of the best offensive Water-types in OU right now. The generation change may not have been all that kind to it, but it is very unprepared for as a result. The fact that such a threatening and all around fantastic Pokemon is in UU range is just disgusting.

Far and away the best water pokemon?? That has to be a joke lol. Aside from the fact that rotom wash is clearly the best water poke in ou at the moment, Keldeo is mediocre at best right now. Ever heard of azumarill? Suicune? Even starmie? All of them bring more to a team than keldeo, who only has two viable moves which every team can resist and which are incredibly predictable based on the situation. Just face it, it is nowhere near as good as it was last generation. It happens.

I think you people are forgetting to metion a huge thing that changed for Keldeo:FAIRY TYPES.Specially Defensive Clefable doesn't care about anything, both Sylveon and Florges can wall Keldeo even with little Sp.Def. investment.Azumarill is a no-brainer.MegaGardevoir also can take a hit relatively well and retaliate with a supereffective move.Calcs:

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 160-189 (39.6 - 46.7%) -- 34% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Sylveon: 160-190 (40.6 - 48.2%) -- 7.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Florges: 142-168 (39.4 - 46.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Clefable: 138-163 (35 - 41.3%) -- 75% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gardevoir: 138-163 (49.6 - 58.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Florges: 123-145 (34.1 - 40.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Sylveon: 144-169 (36.5 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 107-126 (26.4 - 31.1%) -- 35.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Are you honestly saying that Suicune is better than Keldeo! I mean, CroCune is good, but Scarf Keldeo / Specs Keldeo / CM Keldeo just beats shit.

Keldeo is mediocre? lol, you can't possibly be serious.

Yes, I did forget about Rotom-Wash, but considering the fact that they play entirely different roles, Rotom-Wash doesn't exactly outclass Keldeo. Did you seriously say that Suicune is better than Keldeo? What are you talking about? Suicune is barely even OU viable. Keldeo was even suspected last generation. Since then, it only got a few nerfs this generation in the form of the Hydro Pump base power nerf and the rain nerf. Not to mention, most of its best counters have gone down in usage since last generation. It definitely has more than two viable moves (seriously, where did you get that idea from?), getting good enough coverage with its STABs alone and having Hidden Power and Icy Wind to hit the few Pokemon that resist its STABs. I highly doubt you've ever used Keldeo or faced someone (good) using it, because Keldeo just wrecks things. Just naming other Water-types and saying "lol they're better than Keldeo" (they aren't, by the way) and then calling Keldeo bad is a terrible attempt at an argument.

2nd sentence you invented the move 'scared sword' in the OP but that's me being pedantic. :p

Scarf Keldeo is still a tank and like most pokemon very handy in the right match up. Good to partner it with dragons with the ice resistance to switch in on a predicted ice move to then unleash hell. It's STABs will do the talking
