Oi Smogon! I've been lurking for 2 gens now. With the new game, I felt like coming for advice.
I've bred pokés on cartidge. My friends didn't bought the game yet & I wanted to try out my team. I still want to use my game, but breeding is time consuming. That's when I turned to Showdown to test new tricks.
I first bred 6gen mons for wifi season. I'll start with the list below and comment afterwards
11.01 (Klefki) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 104 SDef
Bold Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Foul Play
- Swagger
- Substitute
Here is my primary lead: Klefki the Annoying. I wanted a fairy type just for the hell of it, and it gave some to opponents! I love him because he pisses people off. Naughty, ain't I? Strategy is to first avoid being taunt. Most of the times I t-wave opposing lead, then goes swagger and foul play. If I know I can get t-waved or burned, I use Sub to protect myself. Relying on luck isn't sufficient & I often get a switch. If I face Espeon, I use Foul Play to protect from Magic Bounce & prepare my switch next turn. Prankster helps to slow down fast leads as genesect, even if Klefki often gets burned back. If I survive, I try to keep klefki for later & hax more 'mons. Anf if I see a potential lead I won't be able to T-wave, I then lead with...
JP Lechemondo (Greninja) @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- U-turn
Greninja is the 1st I bred in-game. He's stylish & Protean is so tempting to try out. Plus he's a frog & I'm French. Powerful Life Orb set gets rid of many threats which doesn't resist super effective hits. The life consumption is a problem tho. Moreover, he seems long awaited & he's even often revenge killed by priority moves from his starter nemesis: Talonflame. Still, U-turn offers a way out from locked situations
& damages sash users. Also, Greninja is my only Ice user, which annoys me when he gets killed early game & I have to face a SD Sub Gliscor. Greninja is part of a G/F/W core & is well protected by Chesnaught, but he fails to take a hit for Talonflame most of the times. As a Ninja, he's setting traps. I may feint a switch or U-turn to bait a boost & deal damage before I switch next turn.
Let's introduce his protector...
Slow Knick (Chesnaught) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Spiky Shield
- Seed Bomb
- Synthesis
- Hammer Arm
Chesnaught bulk made me bred one. He's here to take Quakes from anything in Kalos. Fight/Grass double typing already made its proof with Breeloom. Despite this, I feel like if he's lacking a good fight stab to deal damages. He's Rotom-w best counter in this team. Bulletproof is priceless for things like Shadowball. Synthesis helps to regain life at a faster rate than the spiky shield/leftovers. Shield helps scouting before a switch. The speed counterpart for hammer arm isn't much a problem, but the 90% hit rate is definitely an issue. Chessy also often gets burned, greatly reducing his firepower (ha!) to zero.
Now to the last member of the core...
CuiCuiChouChou (Talonflame) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Atk / 56 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Roost
Have you heard about the Bird? Cause I heard Talonflame is the word this gen. I love him for his aggressiveness. I don't think I could let this amazing weapon out of my team. Priority is the shit, countering even his best enemies. Provoking a switch in most situation, I can easily heal from dangerous Stealth Rock or set SD up. If my life is full, I can throw an attack to damage the switcher & move along the next turn. He's awesome at damaging Charizard Y when he thinks he can set up. I mostly don't switch on an obvious Boost user to heal with roost. His weaknesses are obvious and hits are really easily taken by Ttar and Chesnaught. I see no reason to change him from my team.
Now let's move along to my other favorite 6 gen pokemon
Saint Pol (Aegislash) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SAtk
Quiet Nature
IVs: 20 Spd
- King's Shield
- Shadow Ball
- Shadow Sneak
- Iron Head
What a beast! Try it once & you're in love. I bred him slow for the good reason I want to hit last. His bulk lets him take a shadowball in mirror & kill back. Gengarite-less Gengars will remember Aegislash's name forever. Predicting a switch is easy on this one, and I mostly go on attack mode when it occurs. Greatly damaging the counter & finish him with shadow sneak. He's best opening the fight on defense mode, so I'd rather switch him out after he sweeps. I also scout a lot with King shield, helping for life recovery.
Once again, Aegislash won't leave my team for a while.
Mega? cool I'd like that!
Denver (Tyranitar) (M) @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Crunch
Couldn't resist breeding a megastone user. TTar is a beast for long, the slowish dino seems better with his new defenses provided by his digivolving. He's my only residual damage dealer, countering weather changes & decreasing hit rates. Once DD is set up, he outspeeds lots of threats. But even with that, he keeps his many weaknesses & fails to hit Fight pokemons efficiently. He's one shot by many, and need to be used with caution.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fight analysis:
Results are not that bad for at my beginner level, I'm currently on W27/L21 ratio.
My style of play is quite offensive. Many victories were due to hax, I like it but it doesn't seem to be a long term strategy.
From some 50-ish games experience with the team, I felt like the team power is quite limited and frustrating sometimes. I suffer from 3 weaknesses to fire, that is a common type. EQ weakness is easily covered, but costs me switches. I'm having a lot of trouble against stall teams. My best enemy is gliscor, which I can't handle most of the time. Stealth rock, poison & burn are another pain crippling around. I tried to switch Klefki for a defensive Togekiss with heal bell / wish / twave / protect without success. I was thinking using Sylveon for the same purposes, but didn't make the move yet.
Any advice is welcome, I feel there is something wrong with the team, so please help to point me the right direction to take! Thanks!
