Hey everyone this is my first RMT and i hope that i get the form right.
Charizard X was my favorite mon but i didn't see him used much so i thought i'd might try to make a decent with him and through the process of doing some calcs for him realized how ridiculous this thing really is. I thought he would fit best into a Hyper Offense Team due to the massive Momentum he gains for the Team
So let's start!
Teambuilding Process
I started out by making a Charizard X spreadsheet with most, common OU Pokemon to see his Matchup when paired directly against them before and after DD ,and with and without spikes and Rocks on the field. During that process i found out that the list of pokemon that give him problems after 1 Dragon Dance is fairly few and consist of :
-Scarf Chomp(Revengekills)
-Landorus/-T(one revengekills and takes a hit the other walls and OHKO's back)
-Azu(can't be knocked out in 1 hit and OHKO's, Bellydrum versions Aqua Jet OHKO's +Typing)
-Heatran(walls and roars out, Earth Power deals significant Damage)
-Conkeldurr(with Stonedge, OHKO's and takes 2 Hits after DD)
-Infernape(with Stonedge and Scarf)
and there are quite a few pokemon he can setup on due to decent bulk.
After that i came up with this Set
Charizard@CharizarditeX
4HP/252Atk/252Spd
Adamant Nature
-Dragon Claw
-Outrage
-Flare Blitz
-Dragon Dance
I've opted for Dragon Claw as a reliable STAB that doesn't lock you into something and Outrage to reliably kill pokemon like Tyranitar and Dragonite(after Rocks and DD Outrage OHKO's). Obviously Flare Blitz because Charizards STAB-Combination is Godlike hitting every pokemon with the exception of the Marill Line and Carbink neutral and Dragon Dance because of the extreme Powerboost CharX gets from it. I've also run the Calcs on Earthquake but didn't really feel like it was worth it. Most of the time your STABS are straight up more powerfull and the only pokemon he beats with Earthquake are Heatran and Aegislash but Heatran isn't that difficult to take care off and you still kill it after a DD at around 50% so just getting some Damage on it will often be enough and Aegislash can be played around and wont OHKO you anyway and if you absolutely must get it off the field Flare Blitz still OHKO's(recoil is tough tho) at -1 and deals around 70% at -2.
to Compliment Charizard i quickly decided on Mamoswine as a Partner
Mamoswine@Focus Sash
252HP/252Atk/4Spd
Thick Fat
Adamant Nature
-Ice Shard
-Icicle Crash
-Earthquake
-Stealth Rocks
Mamoswine handles a lot of Charizards Problems, like Faster Dragons and Landorus. It also helps against Heatran and Aegislash and is just a really good Pokemon in general. Focus Sash makes it a more reliable Counter and I've chosen the Adamant nature to make up for the Damage Loss of not carrying Life Orb.
Getting Rocks up is pretty important for CharX it beats a lot of Pokemon who don't necessarily have a weakness against Rocks and obviously hurts the ones who do a lot. Focus Sash also makes rocks pretty reliable which is something that's very nice in the Current Meta or in an Hyper Offense Team.
Nothing to Fancy with the attacks.
All in all a good Partner for Char X.
Talonflame@Leftovers
4HP/252Atk/252Spd
Gale Wings
Adamant Nature
-Brave Bird
-Flare Blitz
-Wil-o-Wisp
-Swords Dance
Well i picked it up mainly because it's a Monster and has the same kind of checks but almost no Counters or Counters that were irrelevant to CharX it also Revengekills pretty decently and is good against Conkeldurr and Infernape. It is a kind of minibomb you can use during the midgame and can set-up some Damage on CharX-Checks. It's kind of a Pivot Charizard. I added Wil-o-Wisp pretty much only to try it out.
Skarmory@Leftovers
224 HP / 252 Def / 32 SpD
Sturdy
Impish Nature
-Brave Bird
-Spikes
-Whirlwind
-Roost
Pretty Straightforward Skarmory Set. Good to play Around Azumarill and walls a lot of Common threats but the best part is it's inbuilt eject system if anything set's up on you or will setup on this turn just whirlwind it out and reset the momentum. Hyper Offense is All Momentum and if you have it you win if you don't you loose. Skarmory gives you kind of a second chance at gaining Momentum. Usefull Against Pokemon that could potentially leave significant Damage on CharX like Conkeldurr, TTar, Azumarill, M-Pinsir, Lucario and M-Venusaur(after you sleep Fodder something).
Thundurus-T@Life Orb
4HP/252SpA/252Spd
Volt Absorb
Timid Nature
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Nasty Plot
-Energy Ball
I initially picked it up to have some Damage on the Special Side on a mon that can Deal with Azumarrill and Rotom while being able to perpetuate Momentum i might have built up to this point AND be an alternative Win-Con. Unfortunately i later found out that it underperformed and i desperatly needed the slot for something else. I just didn't have time to set-up a sweep from the special side AND the physical side and often when i went for the special side matches were a lot harder and setting it up not as rewarding. Bolt-Beam and Energy Ball gave some nice Coverage against more unusual matchups and were good against some Dragons too.
Starmie@Life Orb
4HP/252SpA/252Spd
Natural Cure
Timid Nature
-Icebeam
-Thunderbolt
-Surf
-Rapid Spin
I needed a spinner so i picked Starmie. I didn't want another Pokemon That had Problems with Rotom since it's pretty common like Excadrill and didn't want a Defogger since i enjoy Hazards on the opponents side of the Field also a potential Lategame Cleaner even tho its pretty rare. Honestly there's not much reason to pick this pokemon up if it weren't for Rapid Spin and not being hindering to the rest of the Team.
2nd Try
I replaced Thundurus with Terrakion to Deal slightly Better with opposing Talonflames and because i was convinced that i needed a Scarfer and a Pokemon with a Strong Fighting and Rock STAB and Terrakion was both. Not my best Pick to be honest
Terrakion@Choice Scarf
4HP/252Atk/252Spd
Justified
Jolly Nature
-Close Combat
-Rock Slide
-Earthquake
-Poison Jab
I hadn't learned to play properly around CB Azumarill yet and my Lack of Pokemon who could take a hit really made things difficult for me so i thought i could get some decent damage on the opposing Azumarill with Poison Jab otherwise it's just STAB's and EdgeQuake but i hate relying on Stoneedge's low accuracy so i chose Rock Slide.
Oh i also changed Talonflames Wil-o-wisp with Roost it works much better now. Wil-o-wisp was just a test anyway and most of the times i would rather just brave Bird instead of crippling something it also makes Talonflame more consistent as a win-con
3rd Try
I replaced Terrakion since i just didn't have enough beefyness in the team i would constantly struggle against high Momentum threats and realized that i may have made the mistake of investing too much into Momentum instead of consistency. So i chose Conkeldurr in his stead
Conkeldurr@Assault Vest
252HP/252Atk/4Spd
Guts
Adamant Nature
-Drain Punch
-Mach Punch
-Knock Off
-Ice Punch/Stone Edge
Conkeldurr is a Beast. It's good against Rotom-W and the first safe Switch-in for it in my Team. It's just generally a good Pokemon but it gives a lot of sustainability to my team which makes my Setup a lot more consistent. Attacks are really run-of-the-mill: Knock Off on switches and Drain Punch as a STAB Mach Punch offers Priority and Ice Punch is Good against Dragons which Conkeldurr can tank decently well. I'm recently thinking about maybe adding Stone edge since Dragons are really not that much of a threat and it offers nice coverage. It also helps handling threats like TTar,Infernape,Chomp or Heatran, severely weakens walls with knock off and tanks a lot of bulky special attackers while being a great status absorber with guts
I also switched out Starmie since i needed the spot for more survivability besides Starmie wasn't performing that well against ghosts which could render Rapid spin useless. I couldn't switch around all that much while rocks are on my field so i needed more consistency in removing them.
Latias@Leftovers
252HP/252Spdef/4Spd
Levitate
Calm Nature
-Wish
-Dragon Pulse
-Protect
-Defog
I don't know what to say about this Pokemon on one hand i love the added consistency due to defog and wish on the other hand i just hate how this thing kills all my Momentum. It works pretty well since the Momentum of Talonflame and CharX is so ridiculously explosive and consistency was really what my team needed the most.
I thought about replacing Dragon Pulse but i wouldn't know with what and i also thought about adding Healing Wish to maybe retain some Momentum but i would have to try it out first.
How The Team works
-The strategy is really simple: Blow a hole in their walls then sweep either with CharX or Tflame. Most Pokemon in your team just bait Pokemon out that may give you trouble or counter certain checks. It's not unusual to fall behind in Pokemon i won a lot of my games with 2-3 Pokemon while the opponent still had 5 Pokemon left. CharX is a fricking Fireball of Destruction nothing appreciates a hit from this thing even without DD. So knowing when the right time to let it loose has come and knowing what it can setup on(which is thankfully quite a lot) is key to winning with it
-Azumarril is still a big threat and needs to die before you can Sweep with CharX but since the opponent doesn't know which Mega you use they assume you are the much more common Y Variant which is pretty effective vs Azu and use it too early. Oftentimes i try to get some Damage on it with Mamoswine and Skarmory to finish it with Tflame. If the opponent uses it really conservatively i just Setup with CharX and Flare Blitz into it, revenge and later setup with Tflame and sweep from there(if Azumarril is the only problem of course)
-what's really good about this team is that i can flexibly change my mind who i'm going to sweep with. While Tflame is harder to Set-up it's much harder to stop after tearing a hole in the opponents Rotom or Heatran due to it's Priority. CharX however sweeps much more easily killing checks after very little amounts of prior damage
-Mamoswine is ridiculously useful and shouldn't be fodered off easily when he can still do a job with Ice Shard.
I more commonly fodder Latias off after their Hazard setters are dead. Latias can PP Stall a lot of stuff with wish Protect it may be dirty but if you really want to win a game...
-Even tho the goal is to Sweep with CharX priority and recoil often take him down after he has blown enormous holes into the opposition. Always keep an eye on enemy priority Users and the recoil Damage you will get. It's also important to know which targets are only killed by Outrage but not by Dragon Claw after DD since Calculating wrong here and noticing that you have to Outrage against something but he still has a Fairy type or Heatran in the back is pretty much the worst thing ever.
-I try to keep CharX in the back for as long as possible but sometimes you have to throw it in even if it wont sweep completely just to turn the tides or break a stalemate. Stalemates are really bad for you so recognize them fast and act accordingly. Mamoswine and Conkeldurr are only going to get wittled down if you don't
-Deoxys Leads give this team kinda trouble but Deoxys Leads give anyone kinda trouble. Against Speedform i would recommend using Mamoswine and Talonflame and against Defense Conk does a pretty good job.
-Mandibuzz is kinda hard to deal with but just dies to an Outrage after DD so playing around it is advised. Even though you can setup on it it's still dealing you around 70% with foul play so keep that in mind. It can't do much too Skarmory even tho skarmory can't do much back and with 0 attack IV's Latias can take Foul play well too and maybe pass a wish otherwise.
Mega-Venusaur is annoying even though it gets Destroyed by both CharX and Tflame when they are Set-up and both can setup on it. during setup sleep powder is really annoying and without setting something up it's difficult to kill. Skarmory is also pretty good against it and can setup spikes against it and Latias can get a Defog out if rocks are on your side
Charizard X was my favorite mon but i didn't see him used much so i thought i'd might try to make a decent with him and through the process of doing some calcs for him realized how ridiculous this thing really is.
