What is the hardest Video Game you have ever played?

It wasn't _very_ difficult, but Cruisin' USA (N64) on Very Hard. Chicago and Redwood Forest were both terrible... took me at least 4-5 tries for each.

god of war on god mode and devil may cry3 on dante must die were pretty tough hell those on normal gave me trouble and you know a games hard when it gives you easy after dieing a number of times..

DMD on Devil May Cry 3 is total bullcrap if you don't use super costumes (Cheating is for *insert something insulting*!). I have only made it to mission 17. As for the hardest game, I'd have to say any game made before the late 80s.

Also, kudos to whoever mentioned Ninja Gaiden. That has to be the best action game that I have ever played.

I'd have to go with Riven. That was the only game I've ever actually felt proud of myself for beating without any assistance or hints.

final fantasy vii (the one w/ cloud and tifa, NOT Squall and Rinoa). when people tell me that they beat safer sephiroth on their first try i either immediately think theyre lieing @$$holes or yanking my chain. im a nice guy so i usually give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes it gets kind of annoying.. :/

Second place goes to Mario 3, hands down. Ummm... hey wendy? GO KILL YOURSELF uieaw3rw4t

I don't find very many games difficult (especially DMC3 I don't know why people complain about that one), but going through pretty much any Megaman game with just the blaster is pretty damn difficult.

Enigmas never really bothered me (if you're talking about the monsters that appear invisible half the time), if you have the rocket launcher all you do is turn away from them, target and fire. Even in a room full of other monsters if you just focus on them it's not all that bothersome. The only part I find really annoying is the chessboard on DMD.

I recently bought Rainbow Six: Vegas and I dunno if anyone's tried it on realistic (read: one shot kills you) mode, but that's fucking hard as hell.

The hardest games I have played is Tales of the Abyss on Unknown mode. Your pretty much doing 1 damage to some thing that has 300 HP in the first encounter

croc: legend of the gobbos. back in my adventure game addiction :p

I remember that game! It wasn't as bad of an experience as X6, but it was still pretty hard.

Any of you guys played Ecco The Dolphin. That series has been known to be unusually hard.

I'm talking about the things that shoot Blue (And red on higher difficulties) arrows. If you let them Devil Trigger, it's a very long uphill battle. Iirc, the chessboard DTs after you kill 2 pieces, right? I just take out a pawn and start beating on the king. It's still a problem with all of the other pieces running around.

Mega Man 2 still gives me nightmares sometimes (especially that one Wily Fortress boss that requires a full Crash Bomber clip to beat).

Also System Shock 2 on normal or higher makes me want to just throw the damn keyboard against the wall... god I hate the fucking cargo bay area. Pisses me off every time since by that point you're practically relying on a broken pistol (unless you're a god with the pipe) and there aren't enough armor piercing rounds to go around. The game does get easier afterwards (especially after you get the assault rifle and the skill to use it) though.

Okay, sorry for the misunderstanding I never really try to remember the names of monsters in action games, but yeah I agree that they can be annoying sometimes. About the chessboard, I really just hate that damn queen dashing around and laughing while your trying to get something done. She's easy to dodge but I just really hate her for some reason.

I just hooked up my old NES and tried playing through the original Metroid and OH MY GOD. That game is fucking impossible. I must have cheated my way through it back in the day.

Great music, though.

I second, (or maybe third or fourth by now, since I stopped reading after page one), Ninja Gaiden. That game had me pulling my hair out at the sheer difficulty. You really need to master every aspect of the controls to beat it even on normal mode.

To be honest though, I am not really that great at games in general. Most games that people find to be relatively easy, I find challenging. The hardest game I think I ever beat with absolutly no help from any guide or cheat would have to be either Resident Evil 4, or Pikmin 2. Now I know neither of these are particularly difficult, but like I said, I'm not really that good. I've beaten harder games probably, but I used guides on them. Beating Pikmin 2 sure was difficult though (IMO remember), I had to replay that last dungeon (I think it was called the Dream Den) about a million times...

Edit: heh, heh, post 69
