I've been wanting to get into competitive play ever since I realised how easy it was to finally breed good Pokemon in X and Y. However, I haven't really had the time to EV train and level up the plethora of Pokemon I have and therefore decided to start using Pokemon Showdown (I'm stupid for not using it earlier).
Anyway, I'm going to ask you to rate the team I've made for Showdown. Please note this is my first time EVER battling competitively so this team will probably have some glaring problems (and hence why I'm asking for help).
Also, I've played 5 games so far on Showdown (winning all 5 and getting me a rank of 1185) and I'm using that experience to comment on my team and its strengths/weaknesses.
Bisharp @ Air Balloon
Ability: Defiant
Adamant
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Atk/ 4 Sp Def
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Stealth Rock
He's easily my most valuable Pokemon in my team. Bisharp leads all the time, sets up rock and then I proceed to Knock Off before switching to a more suitable Pokemon depending what's on the other side. Sucker Punch and Pursuit are pretty self-explanatory. Bisharp just deals so much damage and resists so many things. I can't see much wrong with him tbh. Air Balloon hasn't helped me yet.
Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
Quiet Nature
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/ 4 Sp Atk
- Shadow Sneak
- Iron Head
- Shadow Ball
- Destiny Bond
Obviously Aegi is one of the best Pokemon in OU and I like the standard mixed set I'm using at the moment. Shadow Sneak is a must and helps deal with clearing up Pokemon after you've caused major damage to them. Iron Head is to deal with fairies. Shadow ball is just so good and deals with so many physically defensive Pokemon. Kings shield is probably the only move that I'm in doubt about. I always seem to predict wrong with it. Air Balloon hasn't helped me yet.
Thundurus-I @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 Sp Atk/252 Spd/4 HP
- Taunt
- Thunderwave
- HP Ice
- Thunderbolt
A pretty standard Thundurus. Taunt and Thunderwave are probably the most vital moves on Thundurus thanks to its ability. I've got the stab move in Thundebolt and HP Ice to deal with any Ground/Dragon Pokemon. I don't feel Leftovers is the right item for it though...
Azumarill @Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
Adamant
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Sp Def
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower
- Belly Drum
- Play Rough
Your standard Azumarill here. Priority is rampant in this meta game and Aqua Jet is lovely on Azumarill thanks to its already amazing attack, ability and Belly Drum. I've only managed to get Belly Drum off effectively once out of 5 matches but the other 3 moves are still powerful enough to deal massive damage to the opposition.
Chansey @Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
Bold
EVs: 252 Def/252 Sp Def/4 HP
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Toxic
- Seismic Toss
This is my second favourite Pokemon on the team. It causes huge problems to any special attacker. Deals with Charizard Y brilliantly. The basic pattern is to Toxic and Protect until the opposing Pokemon is switched out.
Talonflame @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk/224 Spd/32 HP
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- U-Turn
Talonflame is absolutely insane. Priority Brave Bird is so overpowered. It deals with so many things and Talonflame annihilates Mega Scizor. Roost is maintain this majestic bird.. U-Turn is there to keep the momentum going and is a great way to get damage off on Greninja before switching out into something that will deal with that impending water attack.
So the team is pretty decent in my opinion. But the glaring problems for me is that it has no way to deal with hazards and Stealth Rock kills my Talonflame. I also think I'm missing out on some extra power from a mega Pokemon but which one do I use?
I hope I haven't fried your brain with my noobiness. But this is my first time trying out competitive play and I'd appreciate any help given.
EDIT 1: Have made a few changes thanks to a couple of comments (mainly to Chansey and Talonflame).
I've played a few more games and lost two of them thanks to Stealth rock killing my Talonflame and Taunt/Wish messing my Chansey about.
I'm also going to test out Zapdos (mainly for Defog) over Thundurus and see if that yields me better results.
