[RU] Hidden Gems

Hi there, I'm posting a early RMT of my team that I have thought out and devised. I have played a few games and even asked Barton if it was solid or not. (He said yes and gave me a cookie). The team is very fun to play with and I'm happy to share this to the public. The team is inspired by many other teams from various tiers, mainly Valentine's Charizard-Y guide as it showed that with the right support, your weather supporter can be quite threatening and FLCL's frozen pork as it gave me a format to build my team around. Hidden Gems is a team based around Mega Abomasnow, which is one of the most underrated megas in the game, so underrated that it has even stooped down to RU. Much like Charizard-Y teams, this team is not a Hail Team, but instead a team that supports the Hail Setter. Now, enough chatting, lets get this show on the road.

Abomasnow @
Bag_Abomasite_Sprite.png

Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 SAtk / 248 HP / 8 Atk
Quiet Nature
- Blizzard
- Wood Hammer
- Ice Shard
- Rest

Abomasnow is quite a monster if it can get in healthy. Firing off powerful and accurate Blizzards, Abomasnow is a threat to be scared of. With access with powerful stabs and a spectacular base 132 offenses, Abomasnow can break a good portion of the tier. The moveset is quite standard for a mixed Abomasnow with the exception of Rest. Because it has many weaknesses, Rest in conjunction with Aromatisse's Aromatherapy allows Abomasnow to heal up and rejoin the fray. Wood Hammer and Ice Shard are the physical attacks on Abomasnow's set, the former a powerful grass stab and the latter a priority move allowing it to get pass it's horrible speed tier.

Mismagius @
leftovers.png

Ability: Levitate
EVs: 236 HP / 96 Spd / 176 Def
Bold Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
- Heal Bell
- Pain Split

After some extensive testing, I've decided to use Mismagius over Aromatisse. The set is the standard Defensive set which is quite useful for the team. With the ability levitate, Mismagius aids in dealing with the many ground types in the tier, which my team needed help dealing. Mismagius still provides a secondary fighting resist, or immunity for the team in case Reuniclus falls prematurely. Mismagius still provides Heal Bell support, giving it good synergy typing wise and move wise with Abomasnow. Will-O-Wisp is an amazing utility tool that cripples physical attackers and can chip extra damage in conjunction with Hail support. I have considered Thunder Wave over Will-O-Wisp to allow Abomasnow to outspeed threats, but the ability to cripple key physical threats such Escavalier is too good to pass up. The loss of wish support is the price to pay for using Mismagius, but my team's longevity isn't hampered too much and can easily function without it.

skuntank.gif

Skuntank @
blacksludge.png

Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 Atk / 248 SDef / 8 HP
Adamant Nature
- Defog
- Taunt
- Sucker Punch
- Poison Jab / Pursuit

Skuntank is certainly my wildcard on the team and probably the most important too. Skuntank performs a variety of roles for the team such as Defog support, Taunt support, and Revenge Killer. EVs maximize Skuntank's offensive power while giving it special bulk as its typing is more designed to tank special attacks rather then physical attacks. Poison Jab is my main poison stab and allows me to hit many things hard, however Pursuit can provide the same function and can give Skuntank a trapping role. I considered Black Glasses along the road, but I generally like passive healing then extra power on my dark moves. Defog is the main reason I considered Skuntank on my team. While most defoggers in RU are weak to Stealth Rocks, Skuntank's typing provides a neutrality to the hazard, which is a blessing.

reuniclus.gif

Reuniclus @
lifeorb.png

Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast

Reuniclus is such a standard partner for Abomasnow and a staple for Hail teams for good reason. Reuniclus provides a important fighting resistance, a typing that Abomasnow and Hail teams are quite weak to. I opted for a Calm Mind set to abuse it's wonderful ability and stat distribution. With Recover, Reuniclus can easily set up Calm Minds and begin to sweep. I chose Psyshock over Psychic due to the introduction of Assault Vest. Reuniclus' wonderful ability also gives Reuniclus the role of status absorber, absorbing Toxic's and Will-O-Wisp's that annoy my team. I thought about Leftovers over Life Orb but decided that more power is needed for my team rather then defense.

emboar.gif

Emboar @
choiceband.png

Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Superpower
- Wild Charge
- Stone Edge

FLCL's Frozen Pork certainly inspired me to use Emboar and not one moment I regret my decision of using it. Boasting a powerful 517 attack with Choice Band, Emboar is an amazing wallbreaker, striking fear into my enemy's hearts. Emboar checks Escavalier, one of the biggest threats in the tier and other steel types that disrupt my team. While it fails against Aromatisse, Emboar dismantles a good majority of special walls that wall a good portion of my team with it's powerful stabs and coverage moves. Emboar also has good synergy with Abomasnow, breaking down each other's counters. Max Speed and Jolly Nature allows it to outspeed any threats to Emboar and breaks them down. However, if you have a better spread, please recommend me it.

rhyperior.gif

Rhyperior @
leftovers.png

Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 244 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Dragon Tail

With an amazing defense and ability, Rhyperior is quite a physically defensive juggernaut. Rhyperior is running a standard support set from Gen 5 and it serves me quite well. Rhyperior has important functions on my team. Rhyperior provides a much needed answer to brave bird spam in the tier and counters the majority of Defog users of the tier. It also provides a Rock resist, which is also needed for my team. It's great bulk allows it to easily come in and set hazards up while it forces my opponent to switch pokemon. Rock Blast is used over Stone Edge to break Substitutes and Focus Sashes and has a more favorable accuracy over Stone Edge's 80%.

aromatisse.gif

Aromatisse @
leftovers.png

Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Aromatherapy
- Moonblast
- Protect

Aromatisse originally occupied Mismagius' spot on the team. Aromatisse is my heal support and has good synergy with Abomasnow with Aromatherapy. She is also my special wall, tanking many special attacks with ease and healing it off with wish. Aromatisse's amazing fairy typing allow it to serve as a secondary fighting resist in case Reuniclus goes down. I chose Aromatisse over other wish passers because of its ability, Aroma Veil which prevents it from being taunted or encored which is quite helpful as it allows me to pass a wish easily and smoothly. I ran protect rather then a status move such as toxic or thunderwave to heal Aromatisse in a pinch when it is low on health.

In conclusion, the function of this team is to support Abomasnow to sweep by breaking walls that hinder it or removing hazards that strip it's longevity. Though it is built around Abomasnow, it is also designed to function outside of Hail if Abomasnow goes down. I will edit this post as the Meta evolves and if and Bans are relevant to the team. Thank you for reading my Rate My Team, and I hope I inspired you to try Mega Abomasnow, one of the best Mega Evolutions out there.

Ok onto the team. This is a very solid team, but has one major flaw. Your team is seriously weak to ground types, as only Abomasnow can *check* them if they do not have stone edge. Things like Weakness Policy RP Rhyperior or CB Krookodile can have a field day blitzing through 3/4 of your mons, while dealing serious damage to the rest at respective +1 and +2.

The simple solution to all these issues is to run Gligar over Rhyperior. While much weaker, it offers a solid ground resistance, while offering a similar utility that Rhyperior does. BB Can't get past Gligar anyways with or without resists, and roost will keep it around much longer. It also offers further utility with U-Turn and Toxic to grab momentum.

I haven't done much RU'ing so far because Vacation, but I'll hop on and play some more and get back to you bby. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy your banner!

Thank you, Brawlfest! I have a question, how will the team deal with flying type attacks in general? Tornadus-T is a huge threat in RU with Acrobatics and Air Slash. I will try Gligar.

I do know that you are trying to create a fantastic team with hidden gems, however at the moment, Kyruem is needed in almost every team. If you give gligar defog, choice scarf kyruem RUINS everything. I would run that over Mega Abombsnow. Putting KYRUEM in RU was a major mistake and exploit it while you can.

Thank you for your reply, I will try Kyruem over Abomasnow sometimes; possibly adding it to my team because they make a mean dual ice core.

Okay not to be that asshole who double posts to try to bump or anything, but I'm trying Mismagius over Aromatisse and I feel like it's performing the same function, but better. Any comments? Here's the set:
It's the standard Gen 5 support set and it provides me a, as you mentioned, a ground immunity. I was thinking maybe Thunder Wave over Will-O-Wisp to let Abomasnow outspeed shit and when I asked Barton, He said Will-O-Wisp was more reliable.

- Will-O-Wisp
