So I've been into competitive battling since gen 4 and while I would never say I am the most skilled player (cause I certainly am not), I have had a decent amount of success over the years. Anyway the team I run now is probably my most favorite one ever. I wanted to share it here to get opinions on it and see if people have suggestions for possibly better sets for the pokemon. Like I said this team has been really successfull at times, but at others it has failed immensely haha so some advice would be nice. (also im like 99% sure i can post this here. If not thats my bad again im new to forums)
Mamoswine (M) Nickname: *Bryce
Ability: Thick Fat
Item: Expert Belt
Nature: Adamant
4 HP, 252 Attack, 252 Speed
Moves:
Stealth Rock
Ice Shard
Earthquake
Stone Edge
My boy here is my typical lead pokemon. He can (at least pretty often) take out whatever lead pokemon the opponent uses with his high attack and great coverage in his moves. After he takes out the lead (or not depending on the situation) I sometimes have him set up stealth rock as usually they are pretty nice to have up, but if i see a spinner or a defogger i might end up just not using the rocks at times. I also went with an adamant nature for the extra power. He was an edit i made to this team rather recently (used to use infernape) as i found my team had a rather decent problem taking electric type attacks.
Gengar (M) Nickname: Grerg
Ability: Levitate
Item: Choice Scarf
Nature: Modest
4 HP, 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed
Moves:
Shadow Ball
Dazzling Gleam
Thunderbolt
Sludge Wave/Sludge Bomb/Trick
Here is Gengar, my number one favorite pokemon of all time. Ever since gen 1 I have loved this thing and when I found out it was actually viable in the competitive scene (let alone for every generation it was actually in) I was so happy, I made this thing the staple for every team I've ever made. He is the only pokemon I have never removed from my teams, but I have changed his moveset overtime. This generation a choice scarf has worked great on this guy. He already has great speed, and now he can outspeed pokemon like Latios (non-scarfed) and take it out with a shadow ball. Dazzling Gleam and Thunderbolt give pretty great coverage and are fun to use (unlike focus miss). The final slot is something i need help debating on. I have used both sludge wave and sludge bomb to help with fairies and if there are no pokemon who resist/are immune to them they work as a situationally strongeer choice than shadow ball as far as base power goes. Trick is an option but i personally never got a use out of it when i tried it but if someone can make a good enough arguement I might stick to it. Also I run a modest nature for a little extra power since there isnt too much that outspeeds Gengar as is (minus select other scarfers).
Hydreigon (F) Nickname: Kat
Ability: Levitate
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Timid
4 HP, 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed
Moves:
Dark Pulse
Surf/Focus Blast/Earth Power/Tailwind
Flamethrower/Fire Blast
Draco Meteor
I know she lost a lot of popularity due to the fairy type being introduced...but I still love Hydreigon to death. Her stats are pretty great all around (I do wish her speed was better at times but oh well...) and her typing I think is really cool (despite the 4x fairy weakness). Her life orb gives her a good power boost without being locked into a move and she hits hard. Dark Pulse, Draco Meteor, and a fire move get pretty great coverage too. The fourth slot is one I am not sure what fits best. Earth power increases the total number of pokemon i hit super effectively (to 11 while the other two moves make the total number 10), but focus blast would probably be more useful if i'm stuck with hydreigon against a chansey or blissey. Surf can hit fire and ground types which the other two cant...though thats it. The fire move would depend on that fourth slot as well, such as if I were to go with focus blast i would wanna go with flamethrower just so I am not just full of moves that have a good chance to miss. Otherwise i would prefer fire blast for its power. Or i could forgo a fourth attacking move entirely and go tailwind to help speed, but I'm not sure how well that could work so I'm iffy on it. The nature is timid to again help with the speed.
Scizor (M) Nickname: Matt
Ability: Technician
Item: Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
252 HP, 252 Attack, 4 Special Defence
Moves:
U-turn
Bullet Punch
Pursuit
Superpower
I dont think I have to go too much into this one. Scizor is obviously a good pokemon and I was such a fan of him when I was small so I have to run him. The choice band set is my favorite simply because of the immense power behind it. Technician Bullet Punch hurts pretty much everything, U-Turn for scouting, technician pursuit for trapping, and superpower for whatever steals he may have to face. Most people know this set so I think I will just move on.
Gyarados (M) Nickname: Wall
Ability: Moxie
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Jolly
88 HP, 252 Attack, 168 Speed
Moves:
Substitute
Dragon Dance
Waterfall
Bounce
This set is a standard bulky DD gyarados. Leftovers+substitute is really good. Dragon dance as much as i want, and then attack with either stab move. Bounce is probably the more debatable move to use but it helps with mega-venasaur who can sometimes be a major pain otherwise to my team. This guy is a beast and has swept many teams before.
Mega-Gardevoir (F) Nickname: Jules
Ability: Pixilate
Item: Gardevoirite
Nature: Timid
4 HP, 252 Attack, 252 Speed
Moves:
Psyshock
Hidden Power (Fire)
Energy Ball
Hyper Voice
Now Gardevoir is like...my second favorite pokemon, and when it got not only a secondary fairy typing but an awesome looking mega-evlution, I couldnt NOT use it on my team, and thus far she is really effective sometimes sweeping the leftovers of my opponents team! I've used her psyshock to knock out Blisseys in one hit and to weaken Mega-venasaurs. Hyper voice is more often the go to stab move thanks to fairy's greater type coverage than psychic, and hyper voices greater power and ability to bypass subs. Energy ball hits things like rotom-w and quagsire real hard. Hidden power fire has also shown great success at taking out, surprisingly, a few scizors, as just as they expect the switch they get ohko'd instead.
So anyway this is my team. It's a really fun one in my opinion and on that i have used to pretty decent success in many battles. Id love to hear others opinions though!
