XY NU Decent NU Team

Standard Rate My Team Thread. Reply with any adjustments you'd make or what you rate this team out of ten. This is pretty much just a bunch of NU pokemon i put together into a team, and it ended up working pretty well XD. Anyways, here it is.

Miltank @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heal Bell
- Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss
- Milk Drink

This Miltank is the cleric on my team and works pretty well as a wall, too. It can survive pretty much any attack that isn't super effective and likes to spread paralysis all around the opponent's team and works well with two other pokemon on my team that are weak to fire and ice.

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 240 HP / 82 Def / 186 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Protect

Ferroseed is the main wall on my team as well as a hazard setter. It's EVs are to make its defenses more balanced while being slightly more specially defensive to survive the special attacks people like to throw its way. This is usually my lead unless i see a fire type that can take it out easily like pyroar.

Dragalge @ Black Sludge
Ability: Poison Point
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Dragon Tail
- Sludge Wave
- Scald

This Dragalge has good synergy with Ferroseed because it resists both of its weaknesses, but doesn't do too well against fighting types because a lot of them have EQ. Scald is to take out the fire types that Ferroseed hates, sludge wave is to do a good amount of STAB damage, and dragon tail is to get annoying pokemon away from me. Toxic spikes doesn't get used much, especially if the opponent has a poison type that can eat them up.

Regigigas @ Leftovers
Ability: Slow Start
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 196 Atk / 32 Def / 32 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Confuse Ray
- Substitute
- Earthquake
- Return

This Regigigas is my late-game sweeper. Once slow start is over, it is crazy powerful, and the game is pretty much over. Its moveset is made so it can survive the 5 turns of slow start and then kill almost anything that gets thrown at it. Confuse ray makes it harder for enemies to do damage, and substitute lets it survive longer. Its only weakness is pretty much any fighting with a base speed higher than 50.

Gourgeist-Small @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 152 HP / 132 Def / 224 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Will-O-Wisp
- Phantom Force

I added Gourgeist to the team because i noticed that three of my pokemon were weak to fighting. This Gourgeist basically trolls the opponent with residual damage and avoids almost all direct damage in the process. It uses Will-O-Wisp to weaken the fighting types it was made to take care of and uses leech seed to restore some health while trolling the opponent. Substitute and phantom force let it avoid direct damage for at least a turn, which often saves its life.

Armaldo @ Leftovers
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- X-Scissor
- Rock Blast

The last Pokemon on my team is Armaldo, the spinner. But this Armaldo is not just a spinner; it is also a fairly bulky physical sweeper (proper use of semicolon for the win XD)! While its main function is to spin, Armaldo can and has swept teams with its high attack stat and powerful attacks. This doesn't happen often, so it's usually just a spinner.

I would love to hear what you think about my team, and please, if I'm doing something wrong, tell me what i should do to replace/fix it. Thanks in advance, and you can use my team if you want to.

You might try Sap Sipper on Miltank, or SpD EV's to complement Thick Fat, but I think it's fine as is too. TWave is really nice to combat rain teams. Spikes is an option on Ferroseed over Protect, as you do have a spin blocker, but I know Protect has a lot of unexpected random uses. I use the same Dragalge and it's amazing. Regigigas is rather gimmicky and IMO doesn't really work / isn't worth using, since switching is usually a necessity. You could try Zangoose, Scarf Sawk, or Feraligatr - you have the switch-ins for grass and electric attacks in Ferroseed, Gourgeist, and Dragalge. I run Gourgeist-Super, small is an interesting choice to make sure you get off wisp/leech seed, but you kind of need something to take on really powerful fighting types, and Super is a better wall. Phantom Force also kind of sucks because it's really easy to switch into. I run Shadow Sneak, but I get the idea of Phantom Force. IMO Armaldo is sort of a bad spinner because it's so slow and not powerful enough to get through some spinblockers like Gourgeist-S, Dusknoir/Dusclops, etc. I'd recommend Knock Off to get through ghosts instead of Rock Blast or EQ. But still it's just kind of a sitting duck without enough power and it's so slow. For spinning I'd recommend Cryogonal, but that'd require more physical bulk (Gourgeist-S). Kabutops may also work as well as give you more punch and speed than Armaldo, and Knock Off is an amazing move on a spinner.

Overall I'd say replace Armaldo and Regigigas and you're looking at a nice team. Miltank, Ferroseed, Dragalge, and Gourgeist scream defense/hazards, and you have pretty good synergy in that regard. Again Gourgiest-Super is recommended as a sturdier spinblocker.

Protect on Regi is probably more reliable than confuse ray for stalling turns, and you can use protect to scout choiced mons like sawk that will come in on regi.

Also probably don't use regi
regi doesnt get protect dude

id suggest drain punch over eq on regigigas, itll add to his longevity and bulk

Hi there, this is interesting team, but I see some major flaws. I agree with the above two users in that Regigigas is largely ineffective in the current metagame, and that there are far better alternatives. Looking over the team, it seems to be quite a solid stall team. The primary issue is that multiple pokemon lack any relavant form of recovery, and as a result you are rather easy to wear down, especially if Armaldo is low and hazards are stacked on you, which is worrisome. Outside of that, the team is especially pressured by strong Flying types such as Swellow or Archeops which potentially dish out quite a bit of damage. You also have literally no checks to Mismagius and Rotom, which is a pretty big issue. Overall, it is a cool team, but there are some apparant flaws.

The main things that I would look at to start of with is to replace Regigigas with Wish Audino. Regigigas is honestly ineffective, and really doesn't help your team in any way. As i've stated, your team is troubled largely by its lack of recovery and ease at which it is worn down, and Audino aims to patch this by passing gargantuan wishes to teammates to elongate lives and maintain checks to certain threats. More importantly, Audino can check semi-common ghost types such as Mismagius and Rotom that otherwise cause your team serious problems.

Careful | 248 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Knock Off or Double Edge | Heal Bell | Protect | Wish

One other thing that I would like to look at is your inherent weakness to strong flying types in the tier, which on certain spam teams can easily tear through your defensive core. As a result, I would reccomend looking at Defensive Rhydon over Miltank. Miltank's key ability on your team to check and defeat fire types is carried over to Rhydon, with the added addition of greater bulk, more offensive presence, a more reliable SR setter, and a consistent check to the likes of Swellow, Archeops, and Vivillon, making sure that they do not overrun your team with sheer pressure. Furthermore, Audino is far more reliable than Miltank in just about every way, and unlike miltank is not complete setup fodder for the likes of Nasty Plot Mismagius.

Rhydon @ Eviolite | Rock Head
Impish | 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 SDef
Rock Blast | Stealth Rock | Earthquake | Roar

I would like to suggest one more thing in considering Defensive Cryogonal over Armaldo. Simply put, Armaldo isn't that reliable of a spinner due to its bad typing. Its typing exposes weaknesses to all four forms of entry hazards, and furthermore you cannot really take advantage of its offensive or defensive strengths due to its low speed and poor typing giving it a grand total of two resistances. As a result, it is offensively outclassed by Kabutops and Sandslash, while defensively by Cryogonal. Cryogonal not only can avoid being worn down by spikes and toxic spikes to come in and spin safely, but it gets amazing matchups against the tier's ghosts. Furthermore, its bulk and utility moves let it consistently check special setup sweepers and makes for a good matchup against threats to stall such as Seismtioad and Ludicolo.

Calm | 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef
Freeze Dry | Toxic or Haze | Recover | Rapid Spin

Minor Changes:
Ferroseed: Spikes > Stealth Rock, since Rhydon sets them up more consistently anyways, and Ferroseed is one of the best spikes users in the current metagame.

Hope this helps.

id suggest drain punch over eq on regigigas, itll add to his longevity and bulk
It would increase his longevity, but ghost types would be completely immune to his attacks, forcing him to switch which completely defeats the purpose.

i'm building on top of the other rate and keeping the idea of stall since the original team is extremely defensive and doesn't really have much direction, but i haven't really kept up with the current nu metagame so these are only things that are worth trying out

with the previous suggestions: rhydon / ferroseed / audino / dragalge / gourgeist / cryogonal

i notice issues with a couple of things. given the previous suggestions, even though you have two things that sort of check fighting-types, you have four that are weak to them, so you're basically going to be pressured too easily by hariyama, sawk, and especially pangoro. also when playing defensive teams, hazards alone isn't going to win any games because you may run into last-pokemon situations where you can't break down the remaining pokemon

ferroseed is kind of redundant given that it checks similar pokemon to the rest of your team and because spikes support alone isn't a real win condition on stall. uxie with substitute / calm mind / psyshock / signal beam, a timid nature, and 248 hp / 84 def / 176 spe offers the win condition i explained. the speed is for jolly sawk and signal beam is for opposing psychic-types since they can be annoying to your team if they have calm mind and psyshock themselves

i sort of contradict myself since i just removed ferroseed, but klinklang is a huge threat to your team (but it uses substitute on ferroseed anyway). therefore i suggest tangela over gourgeist, which i was on the fence about but soulgazer reminded me i can obviously just run hidden power fire. max hp and defense with giga drain / hidden power fire / leech seed / toxic or knock off. like gourgeist, it has really good physical bulk but additionally a little bit of offensive power on the special side that can help too

also i highly disagree with the spreads you were given. on rhydon, you're better off using max special defense and careful instead of max defense so that you can handle fire-types better outside of audino. if you end up using cryogonal, then have some physical bulk to cushion weaker hits from defensive pokemon since its special bulk is already extremely high with hp investment. i actually don't know what specific spread to use since spiritomb left nu, but basically some defense and some speed instead of special defense. i would probably use 248 hp / 204 def / 60 spe calm to outspeed neutral base 80s, or 248 hp / 164 def / 96 spe timid to outspeed max speed qwilfish and non-choice-scarf sawk. i'd like to emphasize that you use toxic over haze if you need to beat other cryogonal more easily

i would consider defensive dragalge over specially defensive since knock off from fighting-types is pretty obvious and you need something to switch into those

to be real, defensive and stall teams are really hard to pull off in this metagame but hopefully some of these suggestions at least give better direction
