Good Day Sunshine
A 1k RMT
Introduction:A 1k RMT

Hi guys, and welcome to my first ever RMT, as well as my 1k post! I've had a really fun stay on Smogon along the way to 1,000 posts, and hopefully I'll stick around for 1,000 more! Anyway, PU is a really fun tier that has managed to build itself a pretty solid community in a relatively short amount of time, and I would strongly reccommend trying it out. This team is a bit unorthodox compared to most teams that I build, as I usually just stick to building standard offense teams without giving much consideration to playstyles like weather. However, when I got into PU, I sort of entered a phase where I had a lot of fun teambuilding and wanted to try out a lot of new things because the PU metagame was almost completely unexplored, leaving me with a lot of mons and playstyles to potentially try out. Since a lot of top threats in the early PU metagame happened to be Chorophyll users, I decided to try a sun team. The team completely shattered my expectations of how good it would be, as well as how fun it would be to use. As with most weather teams, this team is really fun to use, as it possesses multiple fast, strong wallbreakers and a ridiculous nuke. However, unlike most weather teams, this team is also really good and actually quite consistent. Compared to other tiers, sun isn't overly matchup reliant in PU, as even the few things that this team is really weak to can be beaten if you play well enough. While I haven't used this team /that/ much as I never ladder much, when I have faced good players with this team it's always done really well, and it's apparently not very fun to face either. What started out as a fun five minute team eventually became one of the most fun teams I've ever made, as well as one of the best teams I've ever made. As for the title of this RMT, I just picked a song I liked that had something to do with sun because I'm uncreative @_@. Without further ado, here is the team.
As with most weather teams, a lot of roles are set in stone on this team, meaning that a few Pokemon were pretty much givens, and as such, this team looks quite similar to other weather teams, especially BW NU ones, but there was no real way to avoid that. Also, note that this team was first made before the tier shift and before there was a PU ladder, so a few of these Pokemon have since risen to NU. also xenforo is garb for randomly adding in these hide tags

I first decided to make a sun team because of how ridiculously good many of the Chorophyll Pokemon were in PU even without sun support. For example, Leafeon and Exeggutor were both A+ rank without even considering sun support. This made me quite intrigued to try sun, which is a playstyle I hadn't really used before.

I obviously wanted to pair Exeggutor with another Chlorophyll user in order to effectively take advantage of the sun, so I decided on Victreebel as it was just as potent of a sun sweeper as Exeggutor was, while also being able to clean up after Exeggutor punched holes in the opposing team, as these two Pokemon to a good job of wearing down each other's checks.

For my obligatory Fire-type, I chose Choice Band Flareon. Even outside of sun, not much in PU can switch into this monster, but with sun support, it's just ridiculous. This set is pretty much the only thing in all of PU that can OHKO Musharna without a boost (for reference, Life Orb Sneasel's Knock Off only does about 70% max), which is incredibly nice as Musharna walls 75% of the tier by itself.

At this point, I obviously needed sun setters. Volbeat is really the only option for a Prankster sun setter in PU, however, that doesn't mean it isn't good at its job. Volbeat provided a really good sun setter as well as a great panic button with Encore and Thunder Wave.

I also needed an SR setter, and Golem was the best choice as it could set up both Stealth Rock and Sunny Day on a lot of Pokemon or guarantee at least one of the two, while also having useful priority in Sucker Punch and good bulk and typing.

At this point, my team was completely reliant on sun being up in order to outspeed anything. It was also pretty weak to Sticky Web, as it had no real way of stopping Kricketune from setting it up. For this reason I chose Purugly as my "filler" Pokemon, as it is a huge threat to Sticky Web teams with Defiant, and it also gave me a decent cleaner thanks to its great base 112 Speed and Fake Out.

I wanted to try out Leafeon as a Chlorophyll sweeper, as I had used it to great success on other teams. Leafeon was one of the biggest threats in PU before the tier shift, and with sun up, it outsped the entire unboosted tier, making it a ridiculously good Pokemon that was a threat to offensive and defensive teams alike.

Sadly, both Leafeon and Exeggutor moved up to NU. However, we still had good Chlorophyll users, with Victreebel being something I had used before on this team and Sawsbuck being a decent replacement for Leafeon, despite the fact that not having Knock Off is a pretty huge loss.

Because Purugly was kind of filler, I decided to try other things in its slot. Sneasel is without a doubt the best offensive Pokemon in PU, and the rest of my team just so happened to easily deal with almost everything that Sneasel has trouble with, making it a great cleaner on this team.

At this point, I was ridiculously weak to both opposing Sneasel and Scarf Tauros. (I'm still weak to both of them now, but not quite as much.) I was looking for possible SR setters that got Sunny Day and I happened across Carbink. Not only is Carbink a great Sneasel check, but it is also more reliable at getting both SR and sun up than Golem thanks to its greater special bulk, slightly higher Speed, and lack of 4x weaknesses outside of Steel (which is essentially non-existent as an attacking type in PU). It's also a ROCK WITH EYES, which further cemented its place on my team.
The Team
Carbink @
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
EVs: 252 HP | 4 Def | 252 Spe
Sunny Day | Stealth Rock | Explosion | Rock Slide
Carbink is on this team for one reason and one reason only: its access to both Sunny Day and Stealth Rock. For most of this team's lifespan, this slot belonged to Golem. However, I noticed that Carbink was a great check to the two biggest threats to my team: Sneasel and Scarf Tauros, while doing essentially the same job as Golem. In fact, it actually sets up both Stealth Rock and Sunny Day more easily and reliably than Golem, thanks to its much higher special bulk and lack of 4x weaknesses to Grass and Water, as well as a lack of Fighting and Ice weaknesses. Anyway, onto the set itself. While running max Speed on a Pokemon like Carbink seems really weird at first, Carbink can actually outspeed quite a few uninvested Pokemon, such as Poliwrath, Garbodor, Pelipper, Mantine, SpD Flareon, Torterra, Gourgeist-Super, and probably a few other relevant mons. While the extra bulk from investing in a defensive stat is nice, even 252/0 Carbink is bulky enough to be able to do its job the majority of the time. Explosion is useful to prevent the opponent from being able to stall out my sun turns by keeping Carbink alive, while actually doing a decent amount of damage to physically frail Pokemon and "blocking" Defog from Togetic, Pelipper, and Mantine, as they are outsped by this set. Rock Slide is probably the most filler of any move on any set I have ever used; Carbink only needs 3 moveslots to do its job, and even using a move other than those 3 is just wasting sun turns. Rock Blast would be useful for Kricketune, but Carbink doesn't learn it ;_;
Victreebel @
IVs: 29 HP
Ability: Chlorophyll
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
EVs: 4 Def | 252 SpA | 252 Spe
Sleep Powder | Solarbeam | Sludge Bomb | Weather Ball
The first of my two sun sweepers. Victreebel is quite strong, as not much can switch into it without being 2HKOed. Compared to Sawsbuck, Victreebel usually takes on more of a hole-punching role as opposed to Sawsbuck's usual role of cleaning up. While the lack of Growth may seem odd at first, I found that it was almost always better to simply attack twice than try to set up, as the opponent usually has something that can force it out after it koes something. Sleep Powder is more useful overall as it lets me put walls that Victreebel can't 2HKO to sleep, notably Lickilicky and Musharna, and then switch to something that can break through them, usually Flareon. Sludge Bomb isn't overly neccessary as it is weaker than both of Victreebel's other moves in the sun, but it keeps it from being hard walled by Togetic and lets it have a usable attacking move outside of the sun. With Solarbeam and Weather Ball having 120 / 100 BP and STAB / pseudo-STAB, there's not much that can switch into it, and what can switch in just gets put to sleep. Victreebel is definitely one of the most threatening mons on my team and a huge part of what makes this team so good.
Sawsbuck @
Ability: Chlorophyll
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
EVs: 108 HP | 252 Atk | 148 Spe
Swords Dance | Horn Leech | Double Edge | Megahorn
My second sun sweeper, and the one that ends games more often thanks to its higher Speed. LO Adamant STAB Double Edge hits ridiculously hard even unboosted, while Horn Leech is nice so that instead of dying of recoil after two attacks I can actually stay healthy. This spread may seem a little weird, but the bulk is actually really neccessary. Without any bulk investment, I only need a bit of prior damage to be OHKOed by Sneasel's Ice Shard, while with this spread it only takes about 65% max. This is really important, as like pretty much every sun team, Sneasel is a ridiculous threat to this team thanks to STAB Ice Shard and the fact that it OHKOes Flareon with Knock Off. Meanwhile, with this spread Sawsbuck outspeeds Scarf Tauros with sun up, which is the fastest relevant threat in PU (no, +1 Ninjask is not relevant in any way), while also outspeeding max Speed base 70s outside of sun. The lack of Speed outside of sun is kind of a letdown at times, but sun is almost always up and as I stated before, without the bulk this team has a much, much harder time with Sneasel. Megahorn is filler, as its only use is hitting Gourgeist neutrally and hitting Musharna a bit harder without causing recoil. There are a few other moves that could work over Megahorn, such as Substitute, Baton Pass, and even Aromatherapy or Synthesis. Sawsbuck does a really good job of cleaning up lategame, and is also the only offensive mon on my team that outspeeds Scarf Tauros and beats Sneasel one on one without speed ties. As such, Sawsbuck is probably the most important member of this team, and without it it just wouldn't be the threatening team it is.
Volbeat @
IVs: 0 Spe
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Relaxed (+Def, -Spe)
EVs: 248 HP | 252 Def | 8 SpD
Sunny Day | U-turn | Encore | Thunder Wave
While it may seem that Volbeat doesn't offer much outside of setting sun, it's actually an incredibly important member of this team. Access to both priority Encore and priority Thunder Wave makes Volbeat probably the best panic button in the tier, pretty much keeping me from ever being swept by stuff like Barbaracle and Carracosta, as well as being able to paralyze fast threats late game if necessary. The former of these two things is especially helpful, as it means that Flareon can spam Flare Blitz much more easily without having to either predict a Barbaracle or Carracosta switch correctly with Superpower or risk getting swept. Volbeat is also really good at setting sun, as with Prankster it pretty much guarantees the ability to set up sun for a second time, which is almost always all I really need as games with this team usually don't last long at all. The slow U-turn is also helpful to get any of my other mons in for free while getting in a bit of chip damage. Overall, this team would not be nearly as good without Volbeat, and while setting up sun once and maybe paralyzing something and then dying may not seem like a good use of a teamslot, the other members of this team are so good with sun up that they more than make up for it.
Flareon @
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
EVs: 252 Atk | 4 SpD | 252 Spe
Flare Blitz | Superpower | Quick Attack | Flame Charge
Choice Band Flareon in the sun is an absolute nuke. There's no other real way to put it. A few calcs to demonstrate its power:
252+ Atk Choice Band Flareon Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Golem in Sun: 193-228 (53 - 62.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Flareon Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pelipper in Sun: 174-205 (53.8 - 63.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Flareon Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swanna in Sun: 352-414 (120.9 - 142.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Flareon Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Camerupt in Sun: 324-382 (94.1 - 111%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Choice Band Flareon Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Musharna in Sun: 387-456 (88.7 - 104.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
Okay, you get the point by now. Flare Blitz plows through just about anything that thinks it can switch in. While Superpower is the only coverage move that Flareon gets, it OHKOes both Barbaracle and Carracosta (you need SR to guarantee it on costa), as well as Flash Fire mons like Ninetales and Heatmor, so it doesn't really need another coverage move. Quick Attack lets Flareon pick off weakened mons, while Flame Charge is huge filler but still has its uses, mainly as a STAB move lets Flareon clean late-game if none of my other mons can. Not much else to say about Flareon, it basically just plows through something on the opposing team, takes a ton of recoil, and gets revenged.
Sneasel @
IVs: 29 HP
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
EVs: 252 Atk | 4 Def | 252 Spe
Knock Off | Ice Punch | Low Kick | Ice Shard
Sneasel is probably the biggest offensive threat in the PU metagame right now. Despite the fact that it's kind of filler and is easily the most replaceable member of my team, Sneasel is as great as ever on this team. Often, I don't even need to clean up with Sawsbuck and Victreebel because after they wear down the opposing team, Sneasel can easily come in and clean up without having to keep sun up. Sneasel has very few checks and almost no hard counters in PU, and the few answers it has are either obliterated by the rest of my team in the case of Poliwrath or check the rest of my team decently and end up getting worn down before lategame in the case of Throh. The set is just standard LO 4 attacks Sneasel, nothing really to say about it. I actually might want to run Taunt on it in order to deal with my huge problems with Sticky Web, but all of Sneasel's moves are rather important so I'm not sure if I want to or not.

Sneasel- Basically, if my opponent has a Sneasel, I have to either keep Carbink alive for later in the game or keep Sawsbuck above 65%, or else there's pretty much nothing I can do.
Scarf Tauros- Outspeeds everything except Sawsubuck in sun, and OHKOes or 2HKOes everything other than Carbink.
Sticky Web- I have no way of preventing my opponent from setting up Sticky Web, and I have no way to remove it either. It makes Sneasel pretty much deadweight and makes it so that it is much easier to outspeed my sun sweepers, at which point they aren't nearly as threatening.

Note: I gave shoutouts to everyone who goes to my IRC social channel, so if you're not on here that's why :o
TRC You were my first friend on Smogon. You were also (completely unintentionally) the person who was entirely responsible for me even getting involved with C&C and IRC in the first place. If I hadn't seen that you were viewing the OU analyses subforum on your profile that one day before I met you, I likely would either be unbadged or only have a ladybug and I would undoubtedly not be nearly as involved in this community. Anyway, it's been really fun talking to you, battling with you, and skyping with you, among other things. Thanks for everything @_@
CyclicCompound My second friend on Smogon, you TRC and I have done a lot of cool stuff together, even though you've fallen a bit behind us now in terms of accomplishments, but you're doing what you love so you can't really care too much about it. Also, it's nice to see that you're starting to be more active on IRC again. Again, thanks for everything!
Jukain Another one of the first people I got to know here. Even though I don't play OU anymore, my time spent in OU C&C was really fun while it lasted. OU seems like a much better metagame now than when I played it, so I might get back into it at some point, who knows.
Molk You were the first "important" user I ever really got to know. That may not seem like much, but it's always cool when you're a relatively new user. Anyway, you're a really nice and cool user, especially when you're making amazing joke teams that somehow do really well. You're also a really good tier leader, much better than you give yourself credit for sometimes.
atomicllamas ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ strong user imo, from the best state too. Hopefully I end up going to the U of M and we can meet up irl, that would be pro. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
Lasagne I didn't forget you in my shoutouts :o Also this is how you do shoutouts without causing a whole new rule to be created lol
Alter why did you have to leave ;_; you were a really cool and nice user when you were around though. Also labyrinthine was a much better name js
Bouffalant Good contributor to both UU and RU, and good user all around. a-also muh s-stuttering is pro
Calloflochie who knew that you would have gone from not even being able to get TC without a bunch of controversy to being trusted enough to become a tier leader? You've improved a lot in such a short amount of time, and you're a really good user now. Also UU seems like a really cool tier, I might get into it at some point :o
Muk lol
Meru I didn't really know you that well before I invited you to my social channel at the request of Bouff, lochie, and TRC, but I'm glad to have met you. Also, I have to credit you for making the set format that I used in this RMT, it looks really nice.
galbia You've been a fren since really soon after I met you, it's always been nice talking to you and battling you. Also yours was the last shoutout I wrote gg
Robert Alfons Really funny user in general who is always fun to talk to. I also agree with you on a ton of things, like how stupid things like Sneasel, confusion, and freeze are.
Minus You went from one of the least mature users I've ever seen to being a really solid and helpful contributor. It's pretty shocking how quickly that transition was honestly. Also pls come back, managing both school and smogon isn't nearly as hard as you think ;_;
Arikado You're a really solid presence in RU as a whole. Seriously, I don't know how you manage to be such a solid contributor to RU on IRC, the forums, PS, and C&C all at once, but you do. Keep it up!
Aragorn the King idk how you (and to lesser extent some other people) can take the OU forums sometimes, but you're a really good presence in them and a cool user in general. It's also nice to see you branching out a bit to RU (well, the least on IRC).
Nova why rip, I never really got to know you well ;_;
breh Really cool user to talk to, you're knowledgeable about a lot of topics and are a really good presence on IRC.
Ash Borer You're kinda ded now, but it was fun talking to you when you were around. It's kind of sad that you don't like this game much anymore, but I can definitely see why you don't.
Pearl. I haven't known you for very long yet, but almost right away when I met you i knew you were going to be a good user. You're a really solid presence on the forums and IRC, keep it up! Also you understand the true god that is ROCK WITH EYES
