252 SpA Life Orb Greninja Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Slowbro: 351-413 (89 - 104.8%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
lol it 2HKO's very easily and OHKO's after rocks, since MegaBro doesn't get a boost on its Sp. Defense. You can even take a few EVs from Sp. Attack and put them in Attack, to make Gunk Shot and Low Kick hit harder, while still hitting MegaBro hard.
Try calcing for spdef mbro. Cause people might opt for that due to mbro already high base def (180 r u fkin kidding me?)

So I made this set:
Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Low Kick
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse/Ice Beam/Extrasensory
Low Kick and Gunk Shot both 2HKO Eviolite Chansey after Stealth Rock with 252 Attack EVs, while Gunk Shot OHKOs Clefable and other Fairies most of the time and Low Kick 2HKOs Ferrothorn. The 4 SAtk EVs are enough to 2HKO all variants of Skarmory with Hydro Pump and other threats that require specific moves to target. Dark Pulse handles Slowbro and other Psychic Pokemon, Ice Beam beats Amoonguss, Mandibuzz, Zapdos (who it can beat with Gunk Shot or Hydro Pump, but Ice Beam makes it guaranteed and much easier), and others, and Extrasensory beats phys. Def Mega Venusaur (Sp. Defensive if 2HKOed by Gunk Shot) and Amoonguss.

Praise Game Freak for Gunk Shot, Low Kick and Ice Punch, but curse them for no Knock Off or Sucker Punch!
Why run Low Kick for Ferrothorn when Hidden Power Fire hits it harder, doesn't activate Iron Barbs, OHKOes Mega Scizor, and covers some other Grass-types, such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth.

True, I just wanted to abuse the ability to 2HKO Chansey and not waste all that Attack investment by only running Gunk Shot as a physical move. I guess it's just not worth it in the end. The 40 Atk EV set with Gunk Shot looks good for a mixed set and still hits Clefable, Azumarill and Sylveon very hard.

SpD Gyarados? Unless Greninja starts running HP Elec, there's not much it can do to RestTalk Gyara.
252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Gyarados: 156-185 (39.6 - 47%) -- 95.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

What was that about SpD Gyarados being a counter?

Crap, I had run calcs with HP Grass (a 6HKO at best) but forgot to run Grass Knot.

I'm so glad that I no longer have to see a Chansey on the other team and concede that my Greninja will be useless. Can't wait to hit that bitch up with a Low Kick.
Just FYI, Gunk Shot does equal damage to Chansey as Low Kick since Low Kick only has 60 BP and need Stealth Rock or Spikes up to get the 2HKO. Still will be so satisfying when it does work though. :)

So, I am considering trying something crazy, a sort of specially bulky Greninja spread.

Gamaballa (Greninja) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Protean
EVs: 236 SpA / 20 SpD / 252 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 25 Atk
- Scald
- Extrasensory
- Dark Pulse/ Something else because Aegislash is no longer a thing
- Ice Beam

So the build does some interesting things, mostly it survives against things like Lando and the mirror which would normally cause it problems. I am of the opinion that Timid is too much and that much speed really isn't too necessary, even with Keldeo running around because he out speeds everything else, and so long as a protean goes off first sacred sword doesn't do much.

Final array puts SPA at 301, SPD also at 301, and SPE at 343, which makes it able to survive against specially hitting things enough to get in those 2HKOs that you otherwise didn't last long enough to get in.

The main argument against this is whether or not Focus Sash and Modest is a better combo because reasons, any thoughts?

Why 25 attack?

So, what is the new EV spread looking like on Greninja?

I can't see anyone realistically dipping speed, and the fact that I have been told by the forum that it 'absolutely needs' Life Orb to keep up in damage pretty much means it can't afford to dip SpA investment. Unless Gunk Shot is such a good move that Greninja has no more counters.

I think it's a niche move like U-Turn that will be good, and used a lot, but not the best.

Well gunk shot and low kick can threathen chansey hard with SR on. Even with minimal investment (4 atk ivs and naive) it breaks Clefable AV azu and reliable 3hkos chansey(im on phone so try to run the calculator) while makingninja win one agains Mgardevoir.

I personally prefer Gshoot, HPump, IceBeam and im thorn between GKnot and ES since they would cover Keldeo, Mgyara, rotom W(Partially) and possibly MSlowbro or MHeracross. HP fire is always a good choice as well if you predict a ferro switch in. But most ferrothorn users these days dont switch into ninja fearing hpfire. Bonus points for always winning the speed wars against HP fire opossing greninjas if you choose to forego it.

Greninja sets at the moment is team dependant. Mine will be

4Atk, 252SpAtk,252Spe

Hydro Pump
Ice beam
Extrasensory
Gunk Shot

I'm not running 40 atk EV's since a ice beam followed by a Gunk shot will still be a KO on Azu. Basically Gunk shot will be replacing what I currently have as grass knot. It shouldn't be too missed however as this set should still be able to put M-Gyarados in range of banded Brave bird should it try to set up on me.

Edit. Sorry I didn't put the item or nature. I thought it was assumed to be Life orb Hasty/Naive/Timid

I am considering the same set, Timid Nature or Naive Nature preferred (I already have one that is timid), and holding a Life Orb.

Great how Greninja gets Gunk Shot, but Beedrill doesn't ;-;

honestly, even if Beedrill had gunk shot, it wouldnt really want to run it because it cannot afford to miss with its abysmal defense

Would Scraft greninja be more viable at all? it can check mega sceptile, mega salamence at +1, mega swampert in rain. It run modest and i think power loss is 23%. If run Timid then power loss is 33%

imo a Choice item on Gren defeats the purpose of Protean.

STAB on everything is one of the bigger perks of Protean that still remains true on Choice sets, though Scarf will still probably be lacking in power some. Probably won't be awful though with the new fast Mega threats coming about and it has U-turn for momentum throughout the game as well. Life Orb Greninja will be a lot more useful 85% of the time though.
