Overview
########

The main reason to run Slugma over Ponyta, or any other Fire-type for that matter, is the fact that it has the advantage of a reliable recovery move. Slugma also has movepool advantages over the other Fire-types, including: Memento, Light Screen, Reflect, Lava Plume, and Earth Power. Slugma is also the only Memento user to not fear Pawniard because unlike Diglett or Cottonee, Slugma is not easily eliminated by Pawniard's priority Sucker Punch or Iron Head. However, even with this interesting movepool, Slugma finds itself being outclassed by Pokemon like Ponyta and Larvesta that not only have Flame Body, but also have higher Speed, comparable bulk, and a much greater offensive presence. Due to all these advantages that other Fire-types have over Slugma, it is very hard for it to find a spot on any serious team.

LAVA WITH EYES
########
name: LAVA WITH EYES
move 1: Recover
move 2: Fire Blast / Lava Plume
move 3: Earth Power / Acid Armor / Memento
move 4: Will-O-Wisp / Toxic / Memento
ability: Flame Body
item: Eviolite
evs: 196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD
nature: Bold

Moves
========

Recover keeps Slugma healthy enough to switch into physical attackers throughout the battle. Fire Blast is the suggested STAB move due to its ability to OHKO Eviolite Pawniard after Stealth Rock damage, but Lava Plume can be substituted for better accuracy and a higher chance to burn the target. Earth Power allows Slugma to hit common switch-ins like Chinchou and Tirtouga for super effective damage. Acid Armor allows you to set up on physically offensive Pokemon even further, and dares them to make contact with Slugma, which works very well with Will-O-Wisp and Toxic. Will-O-Wisp burns any target, regardless of whether contact is made or not. Toxic helps Slugma stall out Pokemon, while Earth Power hits Poison-types and Slugma's STAB move hits Steel-types, the Pokemon immune to Toxic. Memento can be used to give a team member a chance to set up.

Set Details
========

The provided EVs maximize Slugma's bulk while hitting Eviolite numbers. The Bold nature makes Slugma's Defense hit the Eviolite number 14. The EVs in HP hit a Stealth Rock number of 23, meaning Slugma can switch in times. Flame Body gives Slugma more chances to burn.

Usage Tips
========

Switch Slugma into physical attackers that make contact, like Mienfoo and Fletchling. Keep Slugma away from Timburr and Taillow because of Guts, though Taillow generally won't switch in for fear of an offensive move from Slugma. Do not use Memento on Pawniard because it will gain an x2 boost to its Attack stat thanks to Defiant; however, Fire Blast easily eliminates it provided Stealth Rock is present, while Will-O-Wisp severely cripples it.

Team Options
========

Lileep, Chespin, and Ferroseed are good partners to Slugma because they check or wall Water-types, which Slugma hates. Chespin also has an added bonus of countering Drilbur. An entry hazard remover is greatly appreciated by Slugma. Vullaby and Staryu are good choices because they are also good checks to Drilbur. Archen is also a good choice because it counters Taillow and checks Timburr. Croagunk, Spritzee, and Snubbull are also good team members because they all handle Timburr, while Snubbull and Croagunk can nail Munchlax with their super effective Fighting-type attacks.

move 3: Memento
move 4: Lava Plume / Fire Blast
ability: Flame Body
item: Eviolite / Light Clay
evs: 196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD
nature: Bold

Moves
========

Memento, Reflect, and Light Screen are here to help a sweeper set up with ease. Recover can be used over Memento if you prefer for your Dual Screener to last longer. Lava Plume has a good chance to burn things, which is important for Slugma's support, but Fire Blast has more power. The main draw Fire Blast has over Lava Plume is that Fire Blast OHKOes Eviolite Pawniard after Stealth Rock damage. Lava Plume is the preferred STAB move on this set because it can burn foes since it is not using Will-O-Wisp. However, Will-O-Wisp can be used over Reflect.

Set Details
========

The given EVs give Slugma maximum bulk, with its Def bolstered by a Bold nature, and Special Defense hitting Eviolite numbers, and HP becoming a Stealth Rock number of 23. Flame Body gives Slugma more chances to burn foes that make contact. Eviolite gives Slugma more bulk, while Light Clay makes Screens last 3 turns longer.

Usage Tips
========

Switch into physical attackers who make contact, like Mienfoo or Fletchling, so you can burn them with Flame Body. Set up Screens and then use Memento, but do not Memento on Pawniard because you will give it an x2 boost to its Attack stat Thanks to Defiant. Fire Blast easily disposes of Pawniard, provided Stealth Rock is active. Slugma is one of the best Memento users due to opponents not wanting to risk switching in Pawniard on Slugma.

Team Options
========

Zigzagoon appreciates both Screens and Memento, which allows it to set up its Belly Drum easily. Other sweepers also enjoy this support,like Fletchling, Shell Smashers, and Timburr. An entry hazard remover like Vullaby, Drilbur, Archen, or Staryu is very appreciated by Slugma. Vullaby checks Drilbur, Archen counters Taillow and checks Timburr, while Drilbur and Staryu enjoy Slugma being able to counter Grass-types. Slugma can also absorb Will-O-Wisps for Drilbur, Vullaby, and Archen.

Other Options
########

An offensive Slugma set can be used using the ability Weak Armor with 196 EVs in both Special Attack and Speed, and then the rest of the EVs can go towards its bulk. The moves Recover, Fire Blast, Earth Power, Hidden Power Rock, and Self-Destruct are all useable on this set. Slugma has Guard Swap and Weak Armor, which could make a potentially fun set. With the use of Memento, you can make it even easier for teammates to sweep or set up. Ponyta and Vulpix are far superior offensive Pokemon overall due to their higher initial speed and offensive power.

Flamethrower can be used over both Lava Plume and Fire Blast; however, because it offers very little increased damage output from the former, you're better off sticking to the listed STAB moves. Self-Destruct can also be used on either of these sets, to provide damage before Slugma faints and also help a teammate set up, but Memento is generally a superior choice. Rock Tomb can also be used on either set for more support because it reduces the Speed of the target. Yawn can also be used to force switches and rack up entry hazard damage. Slugma also has access to Curse and Stockpile, but its lackluster Defense and Attack stats mean it can't use these moves effectively.

Checks & Counters
########

**Entry Hazards**: Slugma takes a large amount of damage just by switching into Stealth Rock and Spikes.

**Water-types**: Slugma is a huge lure for Water-types such as Chinchou, Shellos, or Staryu. These Pokemon don't mind its STAB moves, or burns, and they are all special hitters, so they don't make contact anyway.

**Ground-types**: Drilbur, Hippopotas, and Sandshrew all do heavy damage to Slugma with their STAB Earthquake. Hippopotas also has Whirlwind, so it can phaze out the Pokemon Slugma set up screens for. However, many Ground-types hate being burned.

**Rock-types**: Archen, Tirtouga, Dwebble, and other Rock-types can switch into Slugma and threaten it with their STAB moves; however, they all must be wary of switching into a Lava Plume or Will-O-Wisp due to the increased burn chance. Tirtouga must also be wary of switching into an Earth Power, and Dwebble also does not resist Slugma's Fire-type STAB attacks. Archen is immune to Earth Power and can smack Slugma with STAB Rock Slide or Earthquake, as both moves avoid Flame Body's burn chance.

**Munchlax**: Munchlax, especially the Berry Juice set, does not particularly like being burned, but it doesn't mind any attack Slugma can throw at it. Munchlax also threatens Slugma with a super effective Earthquake, or use Rest to heal the burn.

**Guts**: Timburr threatens Slugma by switching in on a Will-O-Wisp or Lava Plume and gaining a boosted Drain Punch or Knock Off to hit Slugma with. Though it cannot switch into Slugma's attacks, Taillow is another great user of Guts. Larvitar has Guts, super effective STAB moves, and Dragon Dance, which it can use to set up on Slugma.

Looks good, but you should probably mention in moves that Fire Blast's biggest niche over Lava Plume is that it OHKOes Eviolite Pawniard after Stealth Rock. Also maybe mention that Slugma is a decent Memento user since no one will risk switching in Pawniard against Slugma, in contrast to Cottonee.

Could potentially mention Guard Swap + Weak armour in the OO, which coupled with Recover can give away negative armor pretty well, especially since it'll be going against physical mons most of the time. Memento is still proabably the best bet, but this miiiiiiight be worth putting in OO?

Goddess Briyella Slugma is getting there, but I actually think this is CC ready, as Slugma really has nothing else going for it. I could perhaps add some more pokemon to the checks and counters section, but I can't think of anything else worth mentioning. CC can help with that, though. However, I'll put it in CC and see how it goes for now.

I've actually already reassigned this to another user, but they have yet to post the new thread. If you can go ahead and get this done, you might want to talk to the user who recently picked this up. I don't care who does it as long as it gets done.

Oh haha. Well, that is okay. I have been busy with school and everything, so I never really had time to worry about Slugma that much. The new user can honestly just use this thread, as Slugma really has nothing else it can do.

Goddess Briyella I think this is QC ready. I fixed it up a bit by adding more information to the Overview. However, when I write it up, I will highlight Slugma is a very subpar mon that has little niche over the other Fire-types in the tier. I also included Rock-types in the checks and counters, but I still feel like I am missing a couple of options here.

I think I should add Guts, Munchlax, Status (most notably Toxic), and Entry Hazards to the CC section.

Moveset:
- To be entirely honest, I have never used Slugma once so I won't nitpick the moveset all that much; however, I'm not sure that dual screens would be its best set.
- Will-O-Wisp definitely deserves a mention somewhere

Usage Tips:
- Mention how not only can Slugma handle Pawniard, but using Memento on it boosts its Attack

Other Options:
- This section is really confusing right now; the EVs listed on the set are bulkier than that of the "bulky set" you mention in this section, so you're really contradicting yourself
- Rock Tomb
- Self-Destruct

QC 1/3

Overview: Memento is mentioned twice in the 5th bullet point.

First set:
Usage Tips:
-You could mention Guts Taillow along with Timburr.
Team Options:
-Slugma loses to every water type so I think you should generalize instead of just stating Tirtouga and Chinchou.
-Archen isn't really a Drilbur check, mention Staryu instead.

Second set: should probably change the name ;)
Moves:
-On the first set you said Fire Blast would be better, here you contradict that. Either explain why it would be different here or stay consistent.
Team Options:
-A lot of really niche things are mention such as SD mienfoo and SD bunnelby, I think you should generalize to sweepers in general. Also, Bunnelby doesn't learn SD :P
-You could expand on its synergy with Drilbur or Staryu because it handles grass types for them and can absorb WoWs for Drilbur.

Other Options:
-Yawn to force switches
-Guard Swap Weak Armor seems extremely gimmicky, I'm not sure it deserves the mention but you should get another opinion on that.

Checks&Counters:
-Ground types really hate being burned
-I'm not sure status should be mentioned. Toxic isn't very common and paralysis doesn't hinder Slugma anymore than other pokemon.
-Mention Taillow in the Guts section, although it wouldn't want to switch in on an attack.

Nicely done, QC 2/3

Overview:
Mention that Slugma has Recover, Lava Plume, Memento, Earth Power and Dual Screens over other Fire-types.

LAVA WITH EYES:
A more appropriate name for the set would be "Support".

LAVA WITH EYES Usage Tips:
Pardon me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a x2 boost to attack when Memento hits Pawniard? Also mention that Pawniard doesn't want to come in on Slugma's Fire-type attacks.

Aerow:
A more appropriate name for the set would be "Dual Screens".
Keep Recover in the move descriptions, but unslash it from the third moveslot so Memento is left a mandatory move because it's not rare at all for the opposing team to have both a special and physical counter to Slugma, so it's too risky to predict whether to use Reflect or Light Screen.

Other Options:
Mention that Vulpix, Houndour and Ponyta are far better offensive Pokemon overall because they're much faster initially and are more powerful.
Mention that Slugma's abysmal defensive stats prevent it from effectively using set-up moves like Curse or Stockpile.

Checks and Counters:
Specify that only Berry Juice Munchlax dislikes burns.

good work

move 4: Will-O-Wisp / Toxic / Memento
ability: Flame Body
item: Eviolite
evs: 196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD
nature: Bold

The set should look like this. There's no need to have Memento as a secondary slash in both the second and fourth moveslots. Acid Armor works with Recover to set up on physically inclined things and dare them to touch you, and Toxic lets you stall them out (if they get burned by Flame Body, that's fine too). For the things that are immune to Toxic, Earth Power is super effective on both Poison-types, and you have your Fire STAB for Steel-types, of course.

Moves (Lava w/ Eyes):
- Change the order to match that of the moveset

Moves (Aerow):
- You talk about Will-O-Wisp, but its not listed in the moveset (either remove it from description or add it to moveset)

Checks and Counters:
- Rock-types: Mention how Archen is immune to Earth Power and can hit Slugma with Earthquake, avoiding the Flame Body chance

Implement this and you've got your final QC

Memento is listed to give a team member a chance to set up, like Belly Drum Zigzagoon.

Set Details

The provided EVs maximizes Slugma's bulk while hitting with the Eviolite numbers(correct me on this one, but while hitting Eviolite numbers didn't make to much sense). Bold makes Defense hit the Eviolite number of 14(i excused this one, but correct grammar states that one must have numbers under three words written out). An offensive Slugma set can be used using with the ability Weak Armor with and 196 EVs in both Special Attack and Speed, and then the rest of the EVs can go in to bulk. The moves like: Recover, Fire Blast, Earth Power, Hidden Power Rock, and Self-Destruct are all useable on this set. Slugma also has Guard Swap and Weak Armor, which could make a potentially fun set. With the use of Memento, you can make it even easier for mon a teammate to sweep, or set up. Ponyta, Vulpix, and Ponyta are far superior offensive Pokemon overall due to their higher initial speed, and by being more greater(needed to be parallel) powerful.

Flamethrower can be used over both Lava Plume and Fire Blast; however, seeing as because it offers very little increased damage output from the former, you're better off sticking to the listed STABs. Self-Destruct can also be used on either of these sets, as it provides damage before its death occurs and also helps a pokemon set up, but Memento generally is a superior choice. Rock Tomb can also be used on either set for more support, as because it reduces the speed of the target. Yawn can also be used to force switches and rack up hazard damage. Slugma also has Curse and Stockpile, but it's lackluster Defense, and Attack, in Curse's case, stats mean it won't can't use these moves effectively.

**Entry Hazards**: Slugma takes a large amount of damage just by switching in while on Stealth Rock and Spikes are set up.

**Water-types**: Slugma is a huge lure for Water-types like Chinchou, Shellos, or Staryu. These pokemon don't midn mind it's(it is??) its STAB, nor a burn, and are all special hitters, so they don't make contact, anyway.

**Ground-types**: Drilbur, Hippopotas, and Sandshrew all do heavy damage to Slugma with their STAB Earthquake. Hippopotas also has Whirlwind, so it can phaze out the pokemon Slugma set up screens for. However, Ground-types hate being burned, however.

**Rock-types**: Archen, Tirtouga, Dwebble, and others can switch-in on Slugma and threaten it with their STABs; however, they all must be warry of switching-in on a Lava Plume, due to the increased burn chance, or Will-o-Wisp, while. Tirtouga must also be wary of switching in on an Earth Power, if it's used, and Dwebble also does not resist Slugma's Fire-type STAB attacks. Archen is immune to Earth Power, and can smack Slugma with STAB Rock Slide or Earthquake. Both moves avoid Flame Body's burn chance.

**Munchlax**: Though it does not particularly like being burned, mostly the Berry Juice set, Munchlax doesn't mind any attack Slugma can throw at it. Munchlax also threatens Slugma with a super effective Earthquake, and can also Rest to heal the burn.

**Guts**: Timburr threatens Slugma by switching in on a Will-o-Wisp or Lava Plume, and having gaining a boosted Drain Punch or Knock Off to hit Slugma with. Though it cannot switch into Slugma's attacks, Taillow is another great user of Guts. Larvitar can also be mentioned here due to it being a Rock-type with a STAB that hits Slugma for super effective damage. Larvitar also has Dragon Dance which it can use to set up on Slugma.

In LC, and all tiers really, you want your Def and SpD to be even numbers to maximize the boost Eviolite provides. For instance, if your Def/SpD is an odd number, due to rounding, Eviolite will not provide the maximum opportunity of boosting. Ergo, 15 x 1.5 = 22, rather than 23, whereas 16 x 1.5 = 24. As for Stealth rock numbers, if your HP is an even number, and you take 25% or 50% from SR, you cannot switch in as many times as you would if you hit an odd number. Basically, if your HP is a value of 20, you can switch in four times, while if your HP is 21, you can switch in 5 times. This is why in my analysis I had Eviolite numbers and Stealth Rock number.

I implemented some changes you made, though. As, some of your suggestions did make sense. Thank you.

I don't think you should have implemented my changes until a GP member stamped it.i do know what it does and stealth rock does, but having "with Def and SpDef hitting Eviolite numbers", seemed, to me, a awkward way to word it. I do know that "because" is not a coordinating conjunction, but did I use "because" as a coordinating conjunction?? If so I am sorry for doing that. Niether is "as" a coordinating conjunction. I will implement a semicolon before because later tonight.... I have implemented them.

Eh. You definitely fixed a few problems I made. I left out a few words here and there, so I went through and added those, and I did typo things, like "midn". It flows much nicer now, as well. :D

Overview

The main reason to run Slugma over Ponyta, or any other Fire-type for that matter, is the fact that it counters Ponyta with extreme ease, due to having access to has the advantage of a reliable recovery move. Slugma also has movepool advantages over the other Fire-types, including: the aforementioned Recover, along with Memento, Light Screen, Reflect, Lava Plume, and Earth Power. Slugma is also the only Memento user to not fear Pawniard because unlike Diglett and Cottonee, Slugma is not easily eliminated by Pawniard's priority Sucker Punch or Iron Head. and Cottonee fears Pawniard's Iron Head. However, even with this interesting movepool, Slugma finds itself being outclassed by Pokemon Pokémon like Ponyta and Larvesta who that not only have Flame Body, but also have higher Speed, comparable bulk, and a much greater offensive presence. Due to all these advantages that other Fire-types have over Slugma, it is very hard for it to find a spot on any serious team.

LAVA WITH EYES
########
name: LAVA WITH EYES
move 1: Recover
move 2: Fire Blast / Lava Plume
move 3: Earth Power / Acid Armor / Memento
move 4: Will-o-Wisp Will-O-Wisp / Toxic / Memento
ability: Flame Body
item: Eviolite
evs: 196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD
nature: Bold

Moves
========

Acid Armor allows you to set up on physical physically offensive pokemon Pokémon even further, and dares them to make contact with Slugma, which works very well with Will-O-Wisp and Toxic. Will-O-Wisp burns any attacker target, regardless of whether contact is made or not. Toxic helps Slugma stall out pokemon Pokémon, while Earth Power hits Poison-types,(RC) and Slugma's STAB move hits Steel-types, the Pokemon Pokémon immune to Toxic. Memento can be used is to give a team member such as Belly Drum Zigzagoon a chance to set up, like Belly Drum Zigzagoon.

Set Details

The provided EVs maximizes(remove s) Slugma's bulk while hitting Eviolite numbers. The Bold nature makes Slugma's Defense hit the Eviolite number of 14. The EVs in HP hit a Stealth Rock number of 23, meaning Slugma can switch in more times. Flame Body gives Slugma more chances to burn foes that make contact, which is nice. (extraneous) Slugma is using higher physical bulk because it will be switching into physical attackers in hopes of burning them with Flame Body. (Don't you basically already say this? you summarized the first two and last sentences)

Usage Tips
========

Switch Slugma into physical attackers that make contact, like Mienfoo and Fletchling. Keep Slugma away from Timburr and Taillow because of Guts, but though Taillow generally won't cannot switch in for fear of an offensive move from Slugma anyways. Do not use Memento on Pawniard because it will gain an x2 boost to its Attack stat thanks to Defiant; and however, Fire Blast easily eliminates it, provided Stealth Rock is present, while Will-o-Wisp Will-O-Wisp severely cripples it.

Team Options
========

Lileep, Chespin, and Ferroseed are good partners to Slugma because they beat check or wall Water-types, which Slugma hates. Chespin also has an added bonus of being able to countering Drilbur.

Moves
========

Memento, Reflect,(AC) and Light Screen are here to help a sweeper set-(remove hyphen)up with ease. Memento also helps in setting up oa a sweeper. Recover can be used over Memento if you prefer for your Dual Screener to last longer. Lava Plume has a good chance to burn things, which is important for Slugma's support, but Fire Blast has more power. The main draw to use Fire Blast has over Lava Plume is because that Fire Blast OHKOs Eviolite Pawniard after Stealth Rock damage. Lava Plume is the preferred STAB move on this set because it can burn foes since it is not using Will-o-Wisp Will-O-Wisp. However, Will-o-Wisp Will-O-Wisp can be used over Reflect.

Set Details
========

The given EVs gives Slugma maximum bulk, with its Defense, bolstered by a Bold nature, and Special Defense hitting Eviolite numbers, and HP becoming a Stealth Rock number of 23, while Bold makes Defense hit the Eviolite number. Flame Body gives Slugma more chances to burn foes physical attackers ho that make contact. Eviolite gives Slugma more bulk, while Light Clay makes Screens last 3 turns longer.

Usage Tips
========

Switch into physical attackers who make contact, like Mienfoo or Fletchling, so you can burn them with Flame Body. Set up Screens,(RC) and then use Memento, but do not Memento on Pawniard because you will give it an x2 boost to its Attack stat thanks to Defiant. Fire Blast easily disposes of Pawniard, provided Stealth Rock is active. Slugma is one of the best Memento users due to opponents not wanting to risk switching in Pawniard on Slugma.

Team Options
========

Zigzagoon appreciates both Screens and Memento, which allows it to set up its Belly Drum easily. Other sweepers also enjoy this support. (No specific mentions...?) An entry hazard remover like Vullaby, Dilbur Drilbur, Archen, or Staryu is very appreciated by Slugma. Vullaby checks Drilbur, Archen counters Taillow and checks Timburr, while Drilbur and Staryu enjoy Slugma being able to counter Grass-types. Slugma can also absorb Will-o-Wisps Will-O-Wisps for Drilbur, Vullaby, and Archen.
