VGC VGC'15 Team - Feedback Wanted!

So I've tested this team a lot... As you read details about each pokemon, you'll see if I had chosen something before them but had the former replaced for something I thought had benefits that outweighed the drawbacks. Thanks ahead of time, I truly do appreciate it!

Also, something i've just recently become aware of, I think i may have a problem with grass coverage on my team... any fix ideas would be appreciated.

Gallade (M) @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Psycho Cut
- Knock Off
- Protect

I love Gallade for several reasons: The typing gives STAB to some amazing coverage and resistance to some common types, such as Fighting and Rock. The main reason I use Mega Gallade, though, is because he counters SEVERAL relevant megas, the primary one being the dreaded Mega Kang. The flinch immunity on mega gallade is often overlooked, and is unforgiving when a close combat hits. The damage coming from that base 165 attack is absolutely brutal. Easily OHKO's mega kang, as well as doing severe damage to mega mawile, between 61-73%. It can also take most neutral hits, such as mega mawile's sucker punch, mega swampert's waterfall in rain and unboosted mega kang's return. I've toyed with the idea of Ice Punch, but Knock Off seems to be the better option so I don't get walled out by psychic types. I used leaf blade for a while too, just to get rid of mega swampert. What do you think? Knock Off, Shadow Sneak, Leaf Blade or Ice Punch?

Noivern (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Air Slash
- Flamethrower
- Switcheroo

Now this one is tricky... I've bounced back and forth on this one many times, going between Scarfed Special Salamence and this. I settled on this for two reasons: 1.) Mence's draco has only about a 20% chance to OHKO greninja. That's a HUGE letdown for me. Noivern has a higher base speed than greninja by ONE BASE POINT, and specs draco does significantly more damage than scarfed mence draco. Flamethrower may not be as powerful as fire blast, but it serves its purpose with specs. 2.) NOBODY is expecting a switcheroo from this thing... especially since its a huge pain in the behind to chain breed. Another thing: IT GETS FRISK. i can know what i'm getting when i use it, or what would cripple an opponent such as prankster sableye. The only reason i would use mence is for the intimidate, but i still feel that the intimidate trade is a big loss because now i have to use intimidate elsewhere.

Side Note: Specs Draco from Noivern is also a solid mega mence counter, a mega i see WAY too often.

Garchomp (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Rock Slide
- Protect

Standard 'chomp set. Aegislash counter. Mega Maw counter. Megazard Y and Talonflame counter. Little bit o' kang counter with rough skin rocky helmet. EQ is never a bad thing. Nuff said. maybe theres something better? that's what all of you are for! ;)

Gengar (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Thunderbolt
- Taunt

My shaky attempt to counter multiple flaws, such as the rare but present gyarados threat. Tbolt OHKO's no matter what. It also works as a talonflame counter, with tbolt focus sash. Taunt is also there as a means of stopping trick rooms when possible. Shadow ball and Sludge Bomb for coverage against Aegislash and Togekiss. I wouldn't mind trying to find something better, but i have no clue what that could be. Thoughts?

Staraptor (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Double-Edge
- Close Combat
- U-turn

This was previously Banded Talonflame, but when i replaced mence with Noivern, I had to get intimidate back. This is arguably better and worse. I can use intimidate, but im also prone to intimidate myself, whereas special mence wouldn't care about intimidate. But another interesting thing i found to be quite a big deal is the close combat, meaning the bane of intimidate, Bisharp, is gone, even after being intimidated myself. The only flaw i see is the possible Focus Sash, which is fairly common on Bisharp. I can also U-Turn out first turn if i feel the conditions are unfavorable. This also allows me to get a second intimidate at a later time. In the tradeoff from Talonflame to Staraptor, I lost a good bit of fire coverage, but replaced it with more damage and intimidate. Unsure if this was the right move, but that's what you are here to yell at me about, right? :D

Greninja (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ice Punch
- Rock Slide
- Low Kick
- Gunk Shot

Probably one of my favorite pokemon. Ever. I run physical greninja because 1.) its unexpected 2.) it outspeeds a ton of threats. Mega Mence? GONE. Terrakion? EAT A LOW KICK SON. Thundurus? GET REKT BY ICE PUNCH. Landorus? ALSO GET REKT BY ICE PUNCH. T-tar? Sylveon? Megazard-Y? Talonflame? okay well maybe not talonflame, but still... the wrath of greninja knows no bounds. Biggest flaw? intimidate weakness. Thats pretty much it.

Alrighty then, there's my team. I've worked really hard on it, but please, don't be afraid to harshly criticize. The only thing I truly would hate to see go is Mega Gallade. Other than that, fire away. I'd love to hear opinions. Thank you so much in advance!

I think is pretty solid. You shouldn't worry about grass coverage, what you should worry about is ice. You have 3 Pokemon weak to ice, 2 of which have a 4x weakness. What you'd replace... I don't know. But its a problem you need to address somehow.

would replacing garchomp with Scizor be a viable solution? Something like:

Scizor @ Occa Berry
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Knock Off
- Protect

Just throwing an idea down, but am i on the right track?

Also, I thought of another potential idea... Bit of speed control maybe?

Arcanine @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 180 Def / 72 SpD
Calm Nature
- Flamethrower
- Bulldoze
- Will-O-Wisp
- Morning Sun

I really like your team. A lot. Especially the switcheroo frisk Noivern. (If you happen to have a noibat with switcheroo left over, ill trade you one of my perfect 5IVs). Anyway, the only thing I worry about for your team really is Garchomp. To be honest I think that he definitely needs a focus sash in doubles, just because of how many commonly used pokemon have ice beam equipped. That being said, since its VGC, you can't have two mons with a Sash, and your Gengar also definitely needs focus sash. My only thought on how to resolve this issue is for you to switch out Gengar for the following, which would work very well with Garchiomp IMO, and help you possibly weaken the opposing team's physical attackers.

Aegislash @ Air Balloon
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon
- King's Shield
- Shadow Sneak

I totally understand if you don't want to make that switch, but IMO I think you will end up wishing your Garchomp had a focus sash. Aegislash's bulk, power, priority, and ability to cripple physical pokemon is also something that is worth considering over Gengar. I get the feeling you have a similar playstyle to me, so I understand your choices in every spot so far, but I think Aegislash can fill Gengar's shoes well enough with an Air Balloon equipped.

If you plan on using Greninja, swap out Ice Punch for Ice Beam as it still ohkos Salamence / Landorus-T with like 0 investment, and isn't susceptible to Intimidate drops. Also you should definitely consider Aegislash over Gengar, as it's a shaky choice in most cases, and Aegislash is a much more reliable counter to fairy spam, which currently screws with this team day and night (particularly fairy + redirection cores). A standard Wide Guard set should suffice and helps your team out tremendously, and it looks like it pairs well with your Greninja set, since Low Kick bops darks and bulky Heatrans, Ice coverage gets Chomps / Landos and WG helps keep eq spam away, and Rock Slide tackles Zard.

I've done some testing over the past few days, and have found that replacing Garchomp with Scizor has been a much more suitable option for my fairy weakness, and i have also been going between many different mons to replace gengar. Would scizor be better replaced by Aegislash? Also, thundurus is a threat to my team, because without Ice Punch, Greninja can't OHKO it, and ive also replaced Rock Slide with Waterfall as a means of getting the water coverage that isnt reduced by spread damage. Also, who should i put Wide Guard on? I really love the idea, and i feel I can strongly counter the menace, sylveon, with it. You're feedback has been awesome, guys! Thanks so much!

Edit: Another thing I just thought of. Is physical Aegislash viable at all? I know its weak to Intimidate, but maybe if i put a weakness policy on it, it will be better? With a physical set, it can OHKO sylveon unboosted

Aegislash over anything for sure. It has offensive pressure and wide guard support. IMO shadow sneak and knock off is all up to you depending on priority (which you lack if you rid scizor) and a stronger move.

I also think you should run the Final Gambit variant of Scarf Staraptor
Staraptor (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 180 HP / 224 Atk / 104 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- Final Gambit
Outspeeds timid mega sceptile.
OHKO 252 hp ttar with close combat.
Brave birds everything
Final gambit OHKO 4 hp garchomp and stuff below

And the better Aegislash Wide Guard set is:
Hodor (Aegislash) @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 172 SpA / 78 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 20 Spe
- King’s Shield
- Wide Guard
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon

I forgot what the Speed IVs were for but its out speeding some stuff in trick room and underspending some moves you want to tank and then attack

I agree with you 100% on the staraptor set, thank you!

As for wide guard Aegislash... well, i'll be updating my team soon, and we'll see if that truly still fits. i'm a bit twitchy on the idea of letting priority shadow sneak go. I'll explain why when i update it soon
Thanks everybody for the high-quality critiques! they truly do help!

Alright guys! An update to my team, right here! Some things didn't change, and some things changed entirely. I'll get right into it.

Gallade (M) @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Psycho Cut
- Leaf Blade
- Protect

Everything's the same here, except i now use leaf blade. Works extremely well as a coverage move.

Noivern @ Choice Specs
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Air Slash
- Flamethrower
- Switcheroo

Same as original

Aegislash @ Life Orb
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon
- Shadow Sneak
- King's Shield

Replacing Gengar. I chose Life Orb because it allows me to take care of the ever-so-terrifying Sylveon with a Flash Cannon into a Shadow Sneak. Wide Guard would mean I would have to a.) give up the lucky 6IV one i bred yesterday out of pure luck b.) i'd have to give up Shadow Sneak, meaning i can't guarantee the death of sylveon.

Wigglytuff @ Assault Vest
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 72 HP / 188 Def / 236 SpA / 12 SpD
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Dazzling Gleam
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt

So I found this set on another RMT that I critiqued, so I tried it. By god, it's absolutely amazing. It doesn't mind taking icy wind, and nobody really knows about competitive on this thing. Milotic was a second option for me, but I didn't like it because a.) Nearly everyone knows about competitive Milotic b.) Milotic's movepool leaves a lot to be desired.

Staraptor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 180 HP / 224 Atk / 104 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- Final Gambit

Big shoutout to Leremyju for this wonderful idea of final gambit on Staraptor. This EV spread allows me to OHKO 4HP Garchomp and everything below it with Final Gambit, while allowing me to outspeed Timid Mega Sceptile with the scarf. Thanks again man!

Greninja (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ice Beam
- Low Kick
- Rock Slide
- Waterfall

I decided to move the sash to Greninja because the massive coverage he has makes me want to use more than one turn. Yes, I know it has a jolly Ice Beam, but that's what I bred and trained, so it's too late now xD. I also put waterfall on it to deal with Fire types that are only damaged normally by rock slide... oh who am i kidding, I did it to kill Mega Camerupt. It has wiped my team more than once. Otherwise, it's the same as it was before, except for the Ice Beam switch, which was suggested by Shaian. Thanks!

There's the update... So hit me with it! What's good and what's bad? Let me know ASAP guys! Thanks so much!
