the team:

i recently started playing pokemon again after a bunch of people in my school got addicted to ps so i decided to give it another go :)

i really have barely any experience with this gen so i'm trying to learn what to watch out for and stuff. i don't even know the new items (i kept eqing a balloon heatran earlier) but i'm trying to find out about those too. anyway here's the pokemon:

485.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 192 Def / 68 Spe
Bold Nature
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Taunt
- Roar

when i first made the team i didn't have a lot of resistances + i was having trouble with scizor so i decided to include heatran. i use it to just pack on early residual damage from lava plume's possible burn or i can catch something on the switch with toxic. it helps me deal with scizors and talonflames mostly since they could pretty much do a lot of damage without heatran. i usually try to save him if those two are in other team, but once he dies i find that i have a lot of trouble, so i don't really know if i wanna keep him or find another solution. the move set isn't exactly reliable either since i get completely walled by other heatrans and i don't really have anything that would like to switch in to that.

248.gif

Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 104 SpA / 156 SpD
Brave Nature
- Ice Beam
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Stealth Rock

i learned about the change in weather the hard way :(
i keep ttar for the sstorm boost that he gives excadrill, and i find that it's pretty easy to set up rocks with him. i usually switch in to things like heatran and bluff eq. i made him a supporttar because i find that i have enough offensive power with excadrill and mega-scizor. his main purpose is really only to set up rocks and catch some gliscors/landorus-t's who cause me trouble.

530.gif

Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

i'm pretty fond of this guy. once i found out what balloon does i decided to stick this on. he mostly revenge kills, and i try to save him for late game since he can pretty much kill anything after hazards + weather + status damage piles up. i'm not sure if i should keep the nature as jolly since i have no idea who i'm outspeeding, or should i just change it to adamant? the lesser attack power from the nature cost me a game or two, so idk if im going to be keeping it as that.

212-3.gif

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
- Swords Dance

i'm so glad scizor got a mega evo
i stuck with this guy during dpp and i'm still a fan. i chose to use the bulky spread so that i could have an easier time setting up. i find that i'm not using roost too much though since after a few sd's i don't get a time to heal since it's killing everything. is u-turn still viable? i'm thinking of switching it for roost so that i don't have to be limited to knock off + bp when i decide to use him mid-game. he gives a lot of offensive power to this team, and once he gets an sd off it starts hitting like a truck

94-3.gif

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Fire]

so gengar used to be a mega-alakazam but i figured i could use a ground immunity for heatran + ttar. i used to run life orb but i find that im just draining so much hp from the weather and the lo damage that i switched to black sludge just to increase his longevity. it does cost me some power but idk, maybe ill switch it back. since i like to keep excadrill till mid-late game, i only really have scizor to deal with these fairy types, so sludge wave from gengar really helped me with this (something alakazam couldn't do... maybe? idk his standard move sets now LOL) hp fire to feed my paranoia for killing scizors, but i think i'm gonna switch to hp ice for landos and scors. maybe thunderbolt since keldeo could hurt me too

652-2.gif

Chesnaught @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Spiky Shield
- Leech Seed
- Hammer Arm
- Spikes

i'm still finding a wall that would fit this team. i first opted for ferrothorn for the spike usage but i ended up not liking him, so i'm using chesnaught since i saw he had it too lmao. i needed something that could take some hits, and i like this guy cause he gets access to leech seed while dealing out decent damage with hammer arm. it helps me solve ferrothorn and wear out anything that switches into it. i don't really know if he fits in with the team as well i as i would like, so any suggestions would be helpful

thx guys

Hey man, for a starting team this is pretty decent. Unfortunately, fighting types (especially fighting/psychic dual types) as well as mega-metagross give you a lot of trouble. The 3 mons I see pressuring your team a lot offensively are: Mega-Gallade, Mega Metagross and Keldeo. Although it still leaves your team with some faults, I would recommend adding slowbro to your team in the place of Chesnaught (or another mon if you like Chesnaught). This would be the set I suggest:

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Fire Blast
- Slack Off
- Thunder Wave
This would be the set I suggest just because it gives you a dedicated keldeo check because non-spdef slowbro doesn't appreciate specs keldeo. Fire Blast is there to retain the Ferrothorn coverage that you liked but, you can switch it out for Psyshock or Ice Beam etc. if you feel like it.

Another option would be to run standard defensive Slowbro (which is generally better imo just not in this situation) and then run a more dedicated keldeo check like Amoongus to also create a Regen core. Either way, good luck with your team and all the best!

Hey, cool team. I like the idea of throwing on a Slowbro as suggested but a few set problems. On Gengar I recommend Taunt > HP Fire and Life Orb > Black Sludge. Taunt 3 attacks Gengar is a savage, HP Fire doesn't hit much that Focus Blast / STABs don't already (make sure you change the ivs back if getting rid of HP Fire)
On Excadrill I recommend Life Orb > Air Balloon for the power. I would also say Adamant > Jolly.
On TTar, I get that you put SpA invest to be able to ohko Gliscor, bulky LandT etc but uninvested does a ton anyway and they're more than likely going to be weakened already. 104 evs would be better suited in bulk or attack.
On Chesnaught you have Hammer Arm. Now if this is XY OU as the title says then go ahead and ignore this but I'm just gonna guess that it's ORAS. If so, Drain Punch is a better option than Hammer Arm.

I agree with Drain Punch on Chesnaught, Taunt on Gengar and Life Orb on Excadrill (you have Chesnaught to check Landorus-T and opposing Excadrill). Keldeo is a massive threat to your team which you absolutely need a reliable counter to, and you're very weak to Water types like Azumarill, Manaphy, and Slowbro in general. I don't think replacing Chesnaught for Slowbro is a good idea since then you completely lose to MGyara and also to SD Bisahrp to a lesser extent. I would much rather you have 2 water resists If you go with I don't really think you need MScizor too much tbh, especially gives that you already have 2 other steel types and Slowbro is a pretty solid. You then have the option to run another Mega, you could run with Mega Slowbro which is a very solid answer to Mega Gallade who is also a massive threat. However, Mega Slowbro is setup fodder for Manaphy which is a massive threat to your team, running Latios or even Mega Latios over Scizor could actually work too, MLatios basically being a better Latios that takes up a mega slot, however it loses to Azumarill on the other hand.

You're really weak to MHeracross and MSableye too, the former checks most of your team and you have no switchins. Unaware Clefable could be a nice addition to this team, it deals with Keldeo and other water types okay (and deals with Tail Glow Manaphy who can break past Slowbro), however it has a hard time fitting on your team and hates Sand damage (MGuard doesn't really work on this team so much since all the things you would use Clefable for are setup sweepers), and you can't deal with both Heracross and Manaphy (big threat as I mentioned) with the same EV spread. SD Talonflame is probably a much better fit on your team and you can easily run it over Heatran without really losing anything, it still counters Scizor and Clefable while checking MHera and Gallade and setting up on Sableye. Talonflame doesn't do anything for your Manaphy weakness unfortunately. If you still have a Mega slot open Charizard-Y could also work since it completely destroys Sableye and Scizor, provides you with a wallbreaker which you kinda want especially if you decide not to run Life Orb on Gengar, removes Manaphy's Rain and synergises very well with the Sand core.

thanks for the suggestions!!!!

i tried this on in place of chesnaught but i found that i had a lot of trouble with things like azumarill and other slowbro like albacore said. unaware clefable wasn't working too well since it was taking damage from the weather + it didn't really suit well w the team. so i tried celebi

i've also switched from jolly -> adamant + lo on exca with celebi being able to somewhat check keldeo and lando but it only makes the team more mega heracross weak so

also taunt gengar is cool

i'll probably try slowbro more and see if i could replace heatran with something that would be more purposeful than just roar-ing around
