VGC My First Ever RMT - Mega Mawile Rain Team (Doubles)

Hey guys! So, this is my first ever RMT and I feel like I should start by saying that I am fairly new to competitive Pokemon and team building in general. I have very little experience with anything bar this team, so there may well be some glaring mistakes and I apologize if that's the case. I am not awfully clued up on the current meta either and as a result I struggle to see if there are certain commonly used Pokemon that would be very problematic for my team. Due to my lack of knowledge, I'm afraid it would be too difficult for me to make a threat list for you guys right at this moment.

I would love to get this team to a point where it's as good as it can get. As this is the case, feel free to change absolutely anything and everything, don't hold back. It's fairly safe to say everyone reading this will be more experienced and knowledgeable than me, so any advice and improvements at all would be hugely appreciated. So, without further ado, here is the team. Thank you very much in advance for any help that you are able to give.

Liepard @ Focus Sash
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Tears
- Encore
- Thunder Wave
- Knock Off

- Focus Sash has been introduced in place of Sitrus Berry
- Fake Tears has been introduced in place of Rain Dance

The mighty Supportcat! My reasons for wanting Liepard in my team are simple, it's Prankster ability makes it an exceptional support Pokemon and it's speed allows it to out-speed many other Prankster Pokemon. Fake Tears has been swapped in for Rain Dance as I felt my team relied far too heavily on rain being up, it also compliments my special sweepers well. The following two moves are just two more reasons why I fell in love with Liepard, priority Encore and Thunder Wave. As it will nearly always go first, Prankster Encore can very safely lock opposing Pokemon into the move they used last turn. Prankster Thunder Wave just sounds wonderful, crippling faster Pokemon before they can even move. Knock Off is use in the final slot as it is a decent STAB attack, while providing yet more great support bu knocking off enemy Pokemon's items. I have given Liepard a full investment in HP and a Sitrus Berry in order to give it the required bulk and recovery to stay alive and support for as long as possible. A full investment in Speed and a Jolly nature have also been used to give Liepard brilliant Speed, mainly to get the upper hand on other Pranksters.

Ludicolo @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Giga Drain
- Fake Out

Now for one of my favourite Pokemon ever, the amazing dancing pineapple duck! My reasoning for wanting Ludicolo is not simply because I love him, it's because the rain turns him into a terrific special sweeper. His Swift Swim ability on this setup doubles his Speed from 122 to an impressive 244. Ludicolo's role in this team is simple, a rain sweeper with the disruptive Fake Out at it's disposal. I plan on leading Ludicolo with Liepard as Fake Out can help Liepard set up and cripple that little bit easier. Hydro Pump is preferred to Scaled as it's damage is too good to turn down. A STAB Hydro Pump under rain? Let's be honest, nothing wants to be on the receiving end of that. Giga Drain is the second STAB, hitting bulky waters, ground and rock types very hard whilst recovering Life Orb recoil. Ice Beam is there for great coverage for opposing Grass, Flying or Dragon Pokemon. It's EV spread and nature is simple, full investment in Special Attack and Speed with a Modest nature to hit fast and hard.

Politoed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 76 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Encore
- Protect

Next up is the staple for all rain teams, Politoed! There's no real need to go into detail about why I wanted Politoed, it's Drizzle ability is just too good to leave out of a rain team. His role on this team is the rain setter with Liepard. I planned on using him from the back and not as a lead, the reason being, if I were to have rain set up, and an enemy weather setter such as Tyranitar is brought in, I could simply switch in Politoed and shut down that sandstorm right away. Scald is the primary STAB, hitting hard in the rain and having the delicious 30% chance to burn. Ice Beam is there to provide great coverage with the Water STAB attck. Encore is used to lock many slow threats into moves they really don't want to be locked into, Ferrothorn's can think twice about using protect. Speaking of Protect, that's is what is used in the final slot to Scout out opposing moves. A defensive nature is used, with an EV spread for maximum bulk and equally good Special Defense and Defense. Damp Rock is the item of choice to extend that all important rain.

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Extreme Speed/Agility
- Hurricane
- Thunder
- Draco Meteor

Here is where I start to get a tad unsure, special rain sweeper Dragonite! I chose Dragonite for a few reasons, it's immunity to Ground type attacks, it's amazing Multiscale ability weakening incoming super-effective hits and it's ability to spam Hurricane and Thunder. His role is as a full-on special sweeper under rain. I am unsure on slot one, Agility is very tempting but the huge speed boost from Agility is extremely temping also. Hurricane is used as a massive STAB attack with perfect accuracy under rain. Thunder is the second heavy hitting move which also has perfect accuracy under rain. Lastly is Draco Meteor, a huge STAB attack hitting the majority of Pokemon for neutral damage. I have used a straight forward EV spread with a Modest nature, full investment in Special Attack and Speed to hit fast and hard. Leftovers is used for passive recovery, but I am very unsure on this to say the least.

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 244 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Protect

Almost there, next up is Ferrothorn! The role he will play is a Mixed Wall role, with Fire power weakened under rain, Ferrothorn is just even sweeter. With the Iron Barbs ability and the Rocky Helmet equipped, any Pokemon making contact with Ferrothorn will suffer the consequences. Gyro ball is used as the primary STAB, hitting faster Pokemon and Fairy Pokemon extremely hard. Power Whip is the second massive STAB when Gyro Ball can't be used, also destroying bulky Waters, Rock and Ground types. Leech seed is there for passive recovery and is complimented very well by Protect, stalling for a turn in order to recover more from the seeded Pokemon. Protect also serves well to scout out opposing Pokemon's moves. A full investment in HP is used for maximum bulk. A relaxed nature with the appropriate defensive investments is used to make both Special Defense and Defense equally impressive. A Speed IV of 0 is also used to aid Gyro Ball's power.

Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Rock Slide
- Sucker Punch
- Protect

Lastly is my Mega, Mawile! I couldn't resist Mawile in my rain team as it has one of it's two weaknesses, Fire, halved. Also, with a lack of a physical sweeper, which is the role this Mawile will play, he was even easier a choice. First of all, the Intimidate ability on regular Mawile is priceless, being able to bring him in at any time to lower both opponents Attack by one stage, which could be game changing. And then comes Mega Mawile's Huge Power ability, taking it's already good Attack to crazy levels. Play Rough is a massive STAB attack, hitting pesky Dragons extremely hard while doing great damage to Fighting and Dark Pokemon as well. Rock Slide is preferred to Iron Head to deal very well with opposing Flying types such as Talonflame, while also hitting Fire, Ice and Bug types for super-effective damage too. Sucker Punch is a great move, providing amazing coverage as it is able to hit Psychic and Ghost types hard. Protect is used in the final slot to scout out incoming moves. I am completely unsure if this is the right way to go with Mawile, but I have given him and Adamant nature with full investments in HP and Attack, for humongous damage output and decent bulk.

So, there we have it, my first ever RMT and my first ever attempt at a competitive team. I would like to thank anyone in advance for any help what-so-ever they are able to give, it would be massively appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Y'know, imo you should put a Sash onto that support cat because it won't be leaving 2 hits even with the berry activated....Also, have you considered to use Serperior over Dragonite? Unlike Dragonite, Serperior takes advantage of its speed and ability to be a massive threat in VGC. You could also use Fake Tears>Rain Dance on Liepard just to lower the opponent's SpD meanwhile you could also target Serperior to raise your own n_n. Also, you need a way to deal with ferrothorn, like a fighting type or other thing of sorts. Well, that's it!
Keep it up!

Hey man! Thank you very much for the response. I think a Sash on Liepard is a much better idea thinking about it, as is the inclusion of Serperior. Do you have any idea's on a setup for Serperior in this team? Also, if I were to bring Serperior in I will happily lose Rain Dance for Fake Tears as I feel my team relies way too much on rain at the moment. Would you recommend swapping my own Ferrothorn out for a Ferrothorn counter?

Thanks a lot for the advice, it's much appreciated!
