ORAS NU DinoMight

So this is my first RMT. I'm not the best at teambuilding, but after playing NU for quite a bit and also from help from others, I've finally put together a team.

So I wanted to make a team based around Rhydon, cuz wynaut? Rhydon has 2 gaping weaknesses, water and grass. Then there's ground and fighting. Well, Vileplume looked pretty good right here. It resists water, grass, and fighting, as well as being neutral to ground. I also had the convenience of leech seed on Plume. Vileplume also took care of some bulky waters like Seismitoad and Quagsire, both of which don't let Rhydon set up. Vileplume has problems with a few other grounds and psychics, although Rhydon can beat Xatu, but not Mantine.

I needed something to break through walls that Rhydon had trouble with. Zangoose, Mortar, and Typh were unappealing to me here, since it gave a fighting weakness in Gooses case, or a water and ground in the other two. Then, what about Aurorus? Aurorus can defeat Xatu, Mantine, and all the other bulky waters and grounds that Rhydon couldn't get through, and provided a second option to waters in case Plume fell. In a strong Ice STAB in Hyper voice as well as Freeze dry, along with some coverage moves, Aurorus seemed pretty cool right now. He broke walls to the point when Rhydon had no problems setting up and killing the counters/checks. Also, he's another dinosaur. With Rhydon. Double Dino pls.

Here, I had a lot of shared weaknesses with the two dinos. Two of them were Fighting and ground, two very prominent types in NU. I needed something that could take them out while also taking a hit. I thought of Uxie, but Uxie seemed as if it would slow down my gameplay, and Mesprit it was. With a fighting resist and ground immunity as well as Stealth rock, Mesprit was at home here.

Now I needed some sort of scarfer/pivot so I can get in with the other 4 mons. Wynaut Rotom? Rotom is good at what it does, and forms a little fast VoltTurn core with Mesprit. Since it has Levitate, the ground was no problem. Looking back as well, my team wasn't really fast immediately. Rotom could revenge kill a bit, and provide an opportunity for Rhydon to set up.

So now, I needed a hazard remover. Mantine immediately came to thought. He provided a water immunity and took fire spam well. I provided this guy with Haze to prevent any set ups from happening, although Whirlwind could also work. He also took care of Jynx a bit, who could deal massive damage to my team.

The Team

Rhydon @Eviolite "DinoZilla"
Ability: Lightning Rod
EV's: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Adamant Nature
-Rock Polish
-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-----------------------------------
So lets talk Zilla here. It's the standard Double Dance set. I wanted to use this guy for so long, partly due to his looks and power. Double Dance Rhydon is pretty good atm in the meta. It has several advantages against faster and bulky teams. SD for bulky teams, Rock Polish for faster. It depends on the situation. And if I set up both, well, Zilla's goin to town. Say bye TTar. Additionally, with Rhydon's natural bulk, combined with Eviolite, it has many opportunities to set up. Even his bismal SpD can take a neutral hit. EdgeQuake, as everyone knows, is a great combo and not much once to switch in on that 130 attack

Aurorus Choice Specs "DinoLogia"
Ability: Refrigerate
EV's: 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 SpD
Modest Nature
-Hyper Voice
-Freeze Dry
-Earth Power
-Psychic

Omg. This thing is cute. And destructive. Ermahgud. Aurorus is a prominent wallbreaker right now. How many Ice Types are there? Sneasel, Jynx, Articuno, and Cryogonal. Sneasel comes close to Aurorus' destructive power, but lacks the bulk. Aurorus can avoid an OHKO a 4x SE Hariyama's Bullet Punch. This guy has some great bulk. Psychic hits Yama pretty hard and can 2HKO after Stealth Rock. Earth Power gets them Steels such as Klinklang or Probopass who would otherwise switch in a Hyper Voice. Hyper Voice, with Specs, STAB, and Refrigerate, it hits everything hard. In fact, people will have to think twice about switching in on a resisted hit. Freeze Dry patches it all up, hitting bulky waters like Seis, Quag, and Mantine. DIEKNOW POWAAA
45-f.gif

Vileplume Black Sludge "GiHiHi"
Ability: Chlorophyll
EV's: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpA
Bold Nature
-Giga Drain
-Sludge Bomb
-Leech Seed
-Protect

This thing is mischievous. Look at those eyes. And cute. Jokes aside, Plume acts as my physical wall. Here I had a Leech Seed+Protect set, giving residual damage to the opponent and healing up. Plume here takes care of Water/Grounds and sets up Leech Seeds on switches, getting passive regeneration. Unfortunately, I can't have Effect Spore with Leech Seed, and the 30% effect is useful sometimes, but I like my Leech Seed.
481.gif

Mesprit Life Orb "Lorkrav"
Ability: Levitate
EV's: 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 Def
Rash Nature
-Psyshock
-Ice Beam
-U-Turn
-Stealth Rock
This thing is short. How is it so powerful. Lork here fires off strong attacks while proving Rocks and U-turn support. I had originally had Uxie, but I quickly decided not to, since Uxie wouldn't work as well and hit Yama and others as hard. Psyshock is a staple. Ice Beam hits Xatu and Claydol. U-Turn gives momentum for Rhydon to come in. SR is for...I don't even need to explain.
479-3.gif

Rotom Choice Scarf "Xylon"
Ability: Levitate
EV's: 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 HP
Timid Nature
-Thunderbolt
-Volt Switch
-Shadow Ball
-Trick
This guy was one of my fav mons in DPP. He's so darn cute. Rotom revenge kills, and cripples walls and stall mons with Trick. Also providing momentum through Volt Switch, Rotom has been a great help in my team as a pivot.
226.gif

Mantine Leftovers "Baron"
Ability: Water Absorb
EV's 252 HP, 164 Def, 88 SpD, 4 SpA
Calm Nature
-Scald
-Air Slash
-Defog
-Haze
Mantine is becoming more popular with Helio gone (RIP). The EV's give Mantine enough SpD to check Firespam with his already great SpD stat, with the rest into Def to allow him to survive more hits and priority. Gives me a water immunity, as I have 2 weaknesses to it atm. Defog is there because of Aurorus, and also due to the fact Mesprit and Rotom will be switching in and out a lot. Haze is to prevent set up sweepers, as well as BP Gorebyss/Ninjask. Tailwind seemed inferior to me at the time.

I'm afraid I don't have any real good replays, as I'm in low ladder, and all of you know how much low ladder sucks. I haven't been able to battle seriously with this team yet.

Hey Caiahar cool team you got here. Double Dancing Rhydon and Aurorus are two pretty awesome Pokemon to build around.

As far as type synergy goes you have your bases covered with most of your Pokemon, the one big thing that stood out to me was you have 5 specially based Pokemon and only 1 physical Pokemon. The thing is that you are trying to get a sweep with Rhydon and an opponent can just save their physical wall while they wear down the rest of your team. You don't really have anything luring in physical walls right now so the first change I'm going to suggest is running Choice Band > Choice Specs on Aurorus, 77 Attack isn't spectacular but having a 100 base Normal-type move boosted by Refrigerate and then becoming STAB deals massive damage (I learned this the hard way). Second change is running Colbur Berry > Life Orb on Mesprit as this will allow you to have more survivability against Fighting-types and not take damage while you are pivoting, you miss out on a couple of OHKO's but the survivability is much more beneficial imo.

699.png
@ Choice Band | Refrigerate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe | Adamant
Return | Earthquake | Stone Edge | Zen Headbutt

The coverage moves don't really matter as you will be spamming Return most of the time, just through on pretty much the same typing coverage as the specs set.

Minor Changes:
Vileplume: Synthesis > Leech Seed | Aromatherapy / Dazzling Gleam / HP Fire > Protect: Pretty much Synthesis is a much better and more reliable way to recover health and keep Vileplume healthy. It should be a staple on every Vileplume set, the 4th move is more customizable and can run either Aromatherapy to heal status, Dazzling Gleam for Malamar (I think you need some SpA to get a 3HKO), or HP Fire for Steel-types as Klinklang is on the rise as well as Mawile.

Mesprit: Timid > Rash: Mesprit isn't trying to get damage from U-turn, so lowering its defenses isn't beneficial. I personally feel like Healing Wish should be on 95% of Mesprit sets, as its one of the main reasons to run it. You could try it out over U-turn, but tbh I think you should probably run Uxie > Mesprit if you aren't running Healing Wish. They act as much the same thing except Uxie can check much more while providing better bulk and just all around being a better pivot.

4 HP: Generally you want to avoid making Pokemon's HP stat even as that will limit the amount of times you can switch in with Stealth Rocks up. Just put it in defense or something.

Mantine: What exactly does your Mantine spread do? I think it lets it take 2 Eruptions from full from Typhlosion but you might wanna consider adding more special defense because Mega Camerupt could be an issue for this team. The defense was there to better check Mega Steelix when it was still in the tier but I'm not 100% on what the best spread is atm. I would play around with changing the spread up to let you better take on Mega Camerupt. Regardless of changing the EVs around you should have 248 HP as it is better number to take when switching in on Stealth Rock. Another minor change is to switch Toxic > Haze as this will let you wear down things trying to switch into Mantine easier and most matches I generally find Haze to be not worth the moveslot.

Why do you have lightning rod on your rhydon?
The other two abilities are Rock Head and Reckless, both of which don't benefit Rhydon in any way afaik. Lightningrod just gets past soak Lanturn..which is a really stupid thing. Rhydon's abilities are useless, at least to the Double Dancing set.

Cool team Caiahar, dual dance Rhydon and Aurorus are both really fun.

Rhydon / Aurorus / Vileplume / Mesprit / Rotom / Mantine

Overall, the team looks fine. I don't think Colbur Berry is necessary on Mesprit because you have four Fighting resists, one of which is a dedicated resist. You shouldn't be switching Mesprit into Sawks and Hariyamas and stuff anyways. Life Orb is fine. Rash is unnecessary, as Montsegur pointed out, but you don't need the extra Speed from Timid. I'd just use Modest.

I agree with Montsegur that you need Synthesis on Vileplume though. As it is your dedicated switch into Sawk, the reliable recovery is more important than the passive damage from Leech Seed. Hidden Power Fire is also kind of necessary on this team because Klinklang is really threatening if it manages to boost on Vileplume. Effect Spore is much better than Chlorophyll as well.

I also don't think you need to change Aurorus to Choice Band. Yes, five of your six Pokemon are special attackers, but with the way NU teams are built, that doesn't really matter. There aren't really any dedicated special walls in the tier barring like SpDef Mega Audino, which you can exploit with Rhydon. CM Mega Audino isn't a huge deal either, as you have Haze on Mantine and, again, Rhydon to set up against it. It looks kind of annoying, but not so annoying that you need to change Aurorus to Choice Band.

Basically, just make these fine-tuning changes, and I think you'll be good.

suggested changes:
Mesprit:
Rash -> Modest

Vileplume:
Leech Seed -> Synthesis
Protect -> Hidden Power Fire
Chlorophyll -> Effect Spore

After some consideration, I'm thinking of switching Mesprit to Uxie back again. Reasoning is because Magmortar and Rotom-F hits my team very dangerously, as well as defeating my two main bulky mons, Plume and Mantine.
